Bailey Simonsson re-signs with the Canberra Raiders to end 2023
The Raiders have received a huge boost ahead of their sold-out Preliminary Final on Friday night, with Bailey Simonsson re-signing with the club on a long-term deal.
Simonsson was on contract until the end of 2020 but has impressed so much in his debut season that he’s been rewarded with a contract extension until the end of 2023.
Playing 19 matches in his first NRL season, Simonsson has scored eight tries, impressing with his speed and athleticism.
Simonsson admitted it’s been a rapid rise for him and was excited about securing a new deal with the club.
“It’s unreal, I’ve come a long way since signing on as a train and trial deal last year,” Simonsson said.
“I’m grateful that the club has given me the opportunity to stay around and it was a no brainer for me to continue my stay here in Canberra.”
Simonsson said there’s no other club he’d rather play for and said his focus now was learning as much as he can and improving as a player moving forward.
“I’ve loved everything about the club since the day I arrived here and I never saw myself moving anywhere else,” he said.
“I’ve played a lot more this year than I expected to, it’s been an unreal experience and it’s one that I’m trying to take day by day.”
Raiders CEO Don Furner said the re-signing of Simonsson continued the clubs impressive push to retain their talent long term and he was a key component of the team moving into the future.
“Bailey is a talented young player who has been wonderful for the club in his debut season,” Furner said.
“We’re looking forward to him continuing his development and becoming an even better player in the future. We want Bailey at the club long term and he’s a big part of the squad we’re building for the future.”

He's a keeper.
Need to wait for some leaks about the size of the contract to really evaluate.
Read anything into the Simo extension and Rapa still out searching?

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

So they should, the Raiders paved the way to play Rugby 7s (played Jrs with Cotric remember). Then brought him back. The faith has been paid both ways now.simo wrote: ↑September 24, 2019, 12:02 pmMet his actual mum after the dragons game. She was very surprised to learn i had fathered her son.

Awesome news but why on earth did we at the same time tell BJ he can negotiate with other clubs leading up to such an important game?

Bjs manager was given permission to field offers from other teams. Bjs manager approached the raiders for an extension.

Canberra Raiders rookie Bailey Simonsson sheds light on explosive incident, after re-signing with Green Machine
Canberra Raiders rookie Bailey Simonsson has opened up on the explosive incident which enabled him to star in the Green Machines win in Week One of the NRL Finals.
“Yeah I’ve been asked a few times and I don’t even know how to explain it to be honest. It’s like you said, the boys just went to run out and somehow a firework has gone off and hit Joey in the eye and he’s had to go off”, Simonsson said.

Cotric, Simonsson and Croker here long term. Someone's definitely leaving out of Rapana and Leilua.

Canberra Raiders re-sign Bailey Simonsson
Bailey Simonsson's arrival at the Canberra Raiders was a nerve-wracking time. Now he's preparing for the biggest game in the Green Machine's history, fresh off the back of re-signing until the end of 2023.
"I came to have a go without anything secured, so it was obviously a nerve-wracking time and there were times when I doubted whether I would be able to succeed.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

I read it that Simmonsen is seen as being more important to the Raiders future. I agree as well. There is a good chance he may never amount to be half as good as Raps has been, but looking to 2020 and beyond Simmonsen is a far better prospect than an aging Rapana.

Nope. Battered and bruised 2019 Raps is still slightly ahead of him and he doesn’t come close to pre-2019 Raps. With one on the rise and one on the fade I think it’s the right move looking forward. Tough but smart.-TW- wrote: ↑September 24, 2019, 6:14 pmIs he in the class of Rapana yet?dubby wrote:I like this guy. I think he'll get better, too.

Something like 200k for 2020
225k for 2021
250k for 2022
+25k any year he plays rep footy, tops try scoring or wins a positional Dally M (one time, can't win all 3).
3 years is good security for him. He looks good but wingers aren't hard to find. I'd be happy if it's within 50k of those numbers either way.

I'm just rewatching the Storm final...Bailey is so incredible, pulled onto the field just seconds before kick-off, less than four minutes in he scores...and groggily limps away...but somehow shakes it off and is just fine. I really just love him, he's been amazing.

Good signing. He's done a great job in his first season. Has the potential to go from a solid player to a high class NRL winger. Not going to assume he'll make that jump as it's no easy task. We have to wait and see on that one.
His finishing on tries has been excellent, as has his hit ups on kick return. For the latter it's more his effort than his impact. One thing we have yet to really see from him is the ability to break the line and find open space. He's lightning fast but we haven't really seen that on show.

I remember that bomb he took with his foot outstretched back to the in-goal against the roosters that got a 7-tackle set and completely changed the momentum of the game. Terrific awareness for a bloke in his first half a season of NRL.

We saw it when he broke the line on the kick return and ran most of field against Roosters was it? All I can remember is that Cotric butchered the follow up play and that we lost.Northern Raider wrote: His finishing on tries has been excellent, as has his hit ups on kick return.
