Yeah Archer his channeling his inner West Indian with his attitude.
How about that for an abysmal shot from Paine! Very luck to survive

Can you imagine Root going up to Archer and putting a rocket up him telling him to get stuck in or piss off? Captain Grumpy style?yeh raiders wrote: ↑September 5, 2019, 10:45 pm Yeah Archer his channeling his inner West Indian with his attitude.

Nah me either. Archer is being a bit too clever by half for a guy in his 2nd Test and no one seems game to rev him up. Better for us though.
Paine follows the sucker ball like a... sucker.

Just another case of flagrant cheating by the poms so far as I am concerned. Luckily the video reviewer was there to keep a lid on their skullduggery.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Tea 5-369. Paine half ton. Smith within sight of a double. Both have had some luck and chances put down but England look like they should go to the Pub and come back with their happy faces.
Re: The Cricket Thread
Now Paine out caught behind first ball after tea. Good 58 by him. Cummins turn to support Smith
Re: The Cricket Thread
Smith 201 n.o. taking 2 on the leg side off Broad. Australia over 400. Cummins went for 4. Starc looks solid enough.

Australia continue hitting out
Lyon with a couple of boundaries against Archer
Starc with a 6 against Root, Root wastes a review and Starc hits him for a couple more boundaries for his troubles

Re: The Cricket Thread
Here's a stat. Labuschagne has scored more runs (280) in four innings than our openers (Warner, Bancroft, Harris) who have contributed 167 runs in 14 innings combined

Re: The Cricket Thread
Smith now the leading test run scorer for the calendar year... amazing. Hopefully rain doesn't halt our charge.
Re: The Cricket Thread
It's very welcome by Labuschagne but poor by our openers. I think Labu has the technique to be an opener. Most of the time he plays very straight. Not a flashy player but likely to see off the new ball. The issue then is who do we put in the middle order. The selectors have a bit to answer for in the selection of Bancroft and Marsh for the 17. A player like Joe Burns not only has better stats than Bancroft but better technique. Hopefully the openers can put it together in their second dig.

Missed 212 days plus 1.5 test matches, so essentially he is leading test run scorer in 4 innings?Sid wrote:Unreal, he didn’t start until August didn’t he? Re: The Cricket Thread
Here are some Smith facts:
Smith is 16th on the alltime test batting averages, but if you have a minimum 20 innings batted qualification he's 2nd. If he scores an 87 or more (and gets out) next innings, he'll move to 15th on the alltime list.
He's also 3 centuries short of Bradman (who has batted 41 less innings than Smith currently!). Smith is 19th on career centuries one behind Allan Border and Graeme Smith (SA)
With his 211 he's on 6,788 test runs overtaking Thorpe (6,744) and also Virat Kohli (6,749). Next up is #54 ranked late 50s/early 60s great Ken Barrington (ENG) on 6,806 - he needs 18 runs.
Sir Don Bradman - 6,996 @ 99.94, 29 x100, 13 x50
Looking at a couple of the Test modern greats:
Lara - 11,953 @ 52.88, 34 x100, 48 x50
Tendulkar - 15,921 @ 53.78, 51 x100, 68 x50
A couple of the Aussie modern greats:
S. Waugh - 10,927 @ 51.06, 32 x100, 50 x50
Ponting - 13,378 @ 51.85, 41 x100, 62 x50
Smith - 6,577 @ 63.24, 25 x100, 25 x50.
The guy is flying! At this rate, he only need 2 or 3 more games vs the Poms and he will pass Bradman's total Test runs.
Smith current 'peers' (30yrs):
Virat Kohli (30yrs) - 6,673 @ 53.38, 25 x100, 21 x50
Joe Root (28yrs) - 6,894 @ 48.20, 16 x100, 43 x50
Kane Williamson (29yrs) - 6,163 @ 52.22, 20 x100, 30 x50

Re: The Cricket Thread
Smith must be incredibly frustrating to bowl to. He looks like he mucking around like somebody having a bit of fun late in a net session. Bowlers probably think they can get him out but he handles anything they throw at him with ease.

Re: The Cricket Thread
He has a canny knack of placing the ball in gaps by getting into position very quickly.
His fiddling around with his gear and his constant movement in the crease must be frustrating..
It's like there's a twist in his jock strap..
The worlds best batsman for sure...

You can add 3rd player to score 500+ runs is a series 3 or more times.
Bradman did it 5 times.
Hobbs did it 3.
Now Smudge has 3

Re: The Cricket Thread
Crikey, with the ball not doing much in the air for the Aussies, Cummins gets an edge off Joe Root and the ball goes about a meter to the right of Paine who does not go for the ball??? The ball dissects between Paine and Warner who also doesn't move but it was easily the keepers catch. What on Earth is going on? Was Paine asleep? Dear oh me. Cummins is not happy and I don't blame him. He rightly expects more from his keeper, let alone his Captain.
Re: The Cricket Thread
Great spell by Cummins. Lots of play and miss and he is swinging the ball conventionally. No wickets though. But it is only 2 overs into Hazelwoods spell replacing Cummins and he has the wicket of Burns caught by Smith at 2nd slip.
Re: The Cricket Thread
Now Hazelwood has Root out LBW, hit on the back pad about the knee roll. He didn't review, he knew he was gone.
Re: The Cricket Thread
Hazelwood has Roy out bowled middle stump. England now 5 down. GOAT at the other end is also bowling well but just not getting wickets.
