Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

It's 100% No vote so far. Very rare for the GH to not have even one contrary view.

Better question to ask is, "is Josh Dugan sorry for what he did to Canberra"?
Has he ever shown amy remorse whatsoever?

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Interesting question:
Todd Carney got invited back to the old boys day a couple of weeks ago.
He also went on a podcast recently and said if it wasn’t for all his stuff ups he his preference would to have played 300 games for the Raiders and be co captain with Croker.

Would Dugan and/or Ferguson get invited to an old boys day in future once retired??

That IS an interesting question, I would’ve thought the answer is a resounding NO, but I would’ve said the same thing about Carney a year ago too

I would expect the club would invite everyone who is eligible, that is, who represented the Raiders in first grade. The people who run clubs know that every single person employed by a club, will likely take their services to another club at some stage or other. Even the greatest Raiders players of all time have done that.

Loyal fans of a club would never consider switching and the disrespect some figures have shown to the club in the past... well those instances are not likely to ever be forgotten or "forgiven".

Clubs would likely look on these things differently, even when there has been an unpleasant parting of the ways, and especially after the passage of a time.

You would think that those two players would have the good sense to politely decline an invitation, however. At least in the near future.

And if we are still discussing whether it is time for Raiders fans to forgive Dugan... the answer is still no.

I am surprised at first that Carney even got invited to an old boys function, but considering he had previously approached the club about returning, and had Croker's and Ricky's support, I guess that might have softened the stance. Then add that he has shown some contrition or atleast understanding of the issues, then perhaps he is welcomed back into the fold.

Dugan on the other hand, does not seem to have even considered that he should shoulder any of the blame for the actions. Considering the front page of the centenary edition of the Canberra Times was replaced with a full colour picture of Him and sidekick flipping the bird to all Canberran's. **** him.

Ferguson I dont care so much about. He was a bit of a lucky pickup and was only here for a couple of years, so I dont care.

I've kinda gotten over him as a player, but it's pretty rare for a junior player that the club clearly invested a lot of time and money in, to disrespect that club in such a public way.

He and Carney (and to a lesser extent Milford) sent our club backwards like nothing else I have seen. Our brand and city was dragged through the mud for YEARS because of them, let alone having to find and replace those key position players from elsewhere.

I'm loving our new squad of players, so I'm largely over what Dugan did to us now - but I do love see him and Ferguson get smashed. Happens a lot.

I really don’t like people throwing Milford in there with the likes of Dugan, Ferguson and Carney

Milford didn’t do a single thing wrong, wasn’t disrespectful, saw out his contract and put in 100% every time he suited up for us, often when the players around him didn’t!

agreed. Milford didnt ever disrespect the club, he saw out his contractual arrangements and signed elsewhere as a free agent... we can not like that, we fan(atics) can try (and fail) to argue he "owed" us more but he was entitled to sign with whomever he wanted as a free agent.

It made me angry because i thought he could be THE guy that dragged us kicking and screaming to a title. And that he went to the broncos was even more annoying, but he's never had a bad word to say about us, and now im mostly just angry that the Broncos took a prestigious talent, a once in a generation guy, Kayln Ponga, before Kayln Ponga was known and turned him into a boring, robot.

Oh yeah, don’t get me wrong, I was angry as all hell, and I’ll always wonder what might of been, but I just can’t hate the guy in the same manner as Dugan and Ferguson in particular

Carney I don’t even really mind that much, I just feel sorry for him. Ferguson just seems like an idiot, Dugan is the one I can’t stand

Ditto what Statler and Waldorf are saying. Apart from the obvious annoyance of Milford leaving for the Broncos, the "my father is dying you heartless bastards" shtick infuriated me.

Yeah, this. The whole charade around his leaving was next level tedious.
He's not in the same category as Carney (who I don't really feel sorry for as he never really had a clue on how much damage he caused) or Dugan, but the fact he racked off as soon as he hit the big time was pretty ordinary.

I got over Milford pretty quickly though. It was painful watching Stuart throw the chequebook at him knowing full well it was a waste of time. Just made us look stupid and desperate.

I actually think Stuart did it on purpose to highlight just how full of **** the broncos are and knowing full well that Milford was never going to accept our one million dollar offer in the face of the broncos “350k”

It seemed like a very shrewd move to me at the time

I think that is exactly what it was about. But it didn't work.

Milford apparently turned down about 600k a year to head to the Broncos. NRL: nothing to see here.

I'm pretty sure it was a million vs 350k. And it actually DID have an effect, as TPAs are certainly under more scrutiny today then they were back then.

They've changed some of the rules, I'm certain the Broncos don't have the same advantages they once did.

In hindsight I thought Sticky and Don played it out quite well. They knew his signature was a lost cause so they played it so the spotlight fell on the disparity caused by TPAs. Prior to that it was a "nobody talks about Fight Club" situation between the club's. It was the first time somebody rocked the boat in that regard.

The form of the Duge and Milford since they left just makes it hard to care. Both are battlers when you match their play to their pay. We got lucky in both instances.

Yeah Milford really has regressed this year. Until this year I thought a lot of the criticism he cops on his form was unwarranted but he's been very ordinary this year. Easy to forget he was the best player on the field in the '15 gf though and brilliant in '16. Hasn't kicked on like you'd expect since though. I never held any ill will towards him tbh. Btw how's his dad doing these days? Was supposedly on deaths door when he left in '14, how's he still alive?

Up until recently Milford was basically playing both fullback and five-eighth trying to cover for Boyd.

Yeah he's done nothin since he went back to fb though. I'd thought he'd kill it there. Probably needs a full pre season training at fb I guess.
