Ordinary players who have dominated us

Post by TongueFTW »

While thinking about today’s Sharks game, I had a strange thought. “Glad Ben Pomeroy isn’t playing”. For those a little younger, he was a below average Sharks player who seemed to always dominate when he played us. Got me thinking about other subpar players who we made look like world beaters. David Simmons, the Panthers winger, still gives me chills. Anyone else?

Willie Tonga gave David Howell the absolute toweling of a lifetime at Bruce one day. I'll never forget that. Matt Elliott replaced Howell, which is something he'd never done before.

As for ordinary players looking super against us, I think Bryce Gibbs scored his first try in 10 years or so against us.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Konrad Hurrell always looked pretty handy bouncing JC about the place. He was probably far from an ordinary player but I reckon we made him look better than he was.

Hurrell did that to a lot of teams. He was a weapon early in his career. Hit the pies and struggled to handle the pace of the game after that. A bit of a one dimensional power centre too. Seen a few come and go.

The Hughes bros from the Dogs always killed us. There was also that game Fitzhenry went 90 meters to win it.

They aren't ordinary players but Segeyaro and Korisau are two who always seem to go well against us.

That's more a (once) quality player dominating a very ordinary one.

Still love it when this bloke gets mentioned on forums.

He was so bad he changed his rugby league name to hide who he was but pick up another contract when trialing for Canterbury.

Played first grade as Jackson Kaufusi, Lipina Kaufusi and Makasini Richter.

When he showed up as Lipina Kaufusi and stunk it up, i remember having a vivid thought of "Wow, this guy **** stinks, i'll bet he's related to Jackson Kaufusi"

His Makasini Richter bit didnt fool me at all though. I was on to that little **** show!

Ben Pomeroy and David Simmons were the poster boys for this thread, but for some reason Bryce Gibbs always gave us grief.

Anthony Laffranchi also always used to tear us a new one without fail, but he was far from an ordinary player.

There was that bulldogs winger who made his debut against us a couple of years back under unusual circumstances and scored a couple of tries against us. Think there were late injuries and he'd already played NSW cup earlier that weekend? Des Hasler was coaching

Think it was Reimis Smith. Son of Tyran who has a lot of potential in my opinion. Currently hit and miss for the dogs.
