The finals discussion
So it looks like (pending a disaster next week) we'll head to Sydney to play the Roosters week one.

Re: NEEDMEMBERSCODE - The finals discussion
The last couple of years it had been 2 v 3 on Friday night. The last time that game wasn’t Friday night was when we finished 2nd. So of course they have the broncos playing on the Friday night instead.
The NRL really dodged a bungle with the SFS being knocked down. Otherwise our 2nd game of the finals would have been played in Sydney with no home final for Canberra at all.

Re: NEEDMEMBERSCODE - The finals discussion
What’s that got to do with the SFS being knocked down? The NRL changed the rules this year, don’t think it had anything to do with stadiums. More to do with being fair to out of town teams and their fans.kona_dream wrote: ↑September 1, 2019, 10:00 pm The last couple of years it had been 2 v 3 on Friday night. Under the old rules, if we lost week one we would have still played in Canberra week two. However if we won week one and were given the advantage of playing a “home” prelim, it would have been in Sydney possibly against a Sydney team.

I do live about 15 minutes away from the stadium..
However I'd be at a finals game, regardless of which stadium it was in!

Re: NEEDMEMBERSCODE - The finals discussion
100% going up. Would prefer to have it the early Saturday game so I could drive up in the morning and come back in the afternoon. Friday isn't so bad but would mean having to take time off work and I don't like doing that right now. (Although the temptation of seeing the Raiders winning a final on my birthday is excessive.)

Re: NEEDMEMBERSCODE - The finals discussion
So when do the NRL announce the schedule? I can fly down for either Friday night or Sunday arvo game.

Re: NEEDMEMBERSCODE - The finals discussion
From what I can work out the home games are already decided for Week 1. Melbourne, Roosters, Manly and Eels will all host games. It's only the opponents that will be decided next week.

NEEDMEMBERSCODE - The finals discussion
While that DOES appear set in stone, if roosters give it to Souths and manly get up over parramatta (both could happen) to the tune of a 32 point swing, manly could still scrape into the 4Northern Raider wrote:From what I can work out the home games are already decided for Week 1. For example: roosters win by 20, manly win by 13

So if we are playing the Roosters in the 1st week of the finals, where would the game be held....SCG or the Olympic stadium?

Fair call. They are the first 2 games this week so we won't have to wait long.

I'm hoping for Saturday as I can't make a Friday game - either way, I just hope our boys turn up to perform for 80 and not get overwhelmed by the occasion.

Re: NEEDMEMBERSCODE - The finals discussion
NRL keeping finals schedule options open but Storm set for Saturday night
The Canberra Raiders are likely to play next Friday or Saturday night in Week 1 of the NRL finals. If they finish third they will meet the Roosters in Sydnay, and if they finish fourth they meet the Storm in Melbourne.
The NRL is in the process of finalising the schedule for the first week of the finals, with minor premiers Melbourne looking likely to play on Saturday night at 7:30pm next weekend. The second-placed Roosters are guaranteed to host a game and will likely play on Friday night or the Saturday 5.30pm timeslot.

The NRL could use the Roosters to open the finals series as part of a wide-ranging plan which would ensure minor premiers the Storm avoid playing a grand final qualifier in Melbourne on the same day as the AFL decider: https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/sport/ ... 52obv.html

Re: NEEDMEMBERSCODE - The finals discussion
Looks like Saturday thenThat would provide all teams at least a minimum seven-day turnaround
Using the min 7 day rule you'd have as it stands
Storm v Rabbits
Roosters v Raiders
Eels v Broncos
Manly v Sharks

Re: NEEDMEMBERSCODE - The finals discussion
The Storm can't play on Friday night, though, because the AFL is playing at the MCG then.
Re: NEEDMEMBERSCODE - The finals discussion
Then someone would be on a 6 day turnaround

**** no chance I can make it to Sydney if it’s on a Friday night.
All things considering, I imagine we’re locked in to the Friday night game if we finish 3rd.

Really hoping for Saturday 5:30, that would be ideal.
Friday makes it harder for Raiders fans, got to try and get off work early to make it up in time.
