Horn blowers
Perhaps this doesn’t deserve its own thread, BUT why did former jockey and reported Manly fan Malcolm Johnson get to blow the Viking Horn today???
It didn’t cost us the game but surely we have some criteria and can dig out some ex-players or at the least supporters of our club?

Re: Horn blowers
They said he was a member of the Raiders now. I was left wondering if the club provided him one, to be honest, given he's a Manly fan. Famous people... sure, have them blow the horn... but they have to be actual fans of the club.

Re: Horn blowers
Yeah that would be my take. Rather see some kid who is passionate about the raiders be given a go than a famous person who isn’t. Nothing against Miracle Mal but it was an odd call

It would be good to get Horatio in - see if he lives up to his name!

Apparently he lost a bet with someone on the Raiders Board or something. That is what they said on Channel 9.

If that’s true it tarnished any honour others might have in being invited to blow the hornWiki Special wrote: ↑August 25, 2019, 8:48 pm Apparently he lost a bet with someone on the Raiders Board or something. That is what they said on Channel 9.

Re: Horn blowers
If they can’t get an ex-player or someone associated with the club I’d rather see a long term member blow the horn then a bloody Manly(or any opposition fan for that) blow it.greeneyed wrote:They said he was a member of the Raiders now. Blow the horn AKA put your mouth somewhere near it and pretend
Re: Horn blowers
If that's true, it is a terrible call from the club. That is an honour. It shouldn't be the play thing of a bet.Wiki Special wrote: ↑August 25, 2019, 8:48 pm Apparently he lost a bet with someone on the Raiders Board or something. That is what they said on Channel 9.

Yep bad call there by the club, especially when the home crowd was 20k+

Agreed. I can't remember the last name of the person associated with the Raiders the bet was with but they are involved in the horse racing industry in some way too they saidgreeneyed wrote: ↑August 25, 2019, 10:22 pmIf that's true, it is a terrible call from the club. Re: Horn blowers
I'm honestly not sure if people are being serious in this thread. It's a horn.
Re: Horn blowers

It's our Viking Horn and it is sacred.

I don’t agree. The Raiders have for the most part built a great tradition, based on who they’ve invited to start the Viking Clap. I can only remember one mis-step before today, inviting a politician to do it.
You want to build a tradition further... you don’t cheapen it with stunts like today.

Very good NR
The Club had an opportunity to create a good tradition here but they blew it.

Re: Horn blowers
I’d be keen to know which board member. I know Alan Hawke loves his horses. Yeah it’s a little thing but it’s a dumb little thing. If you want fans and players to buy into a culture you value the culture and don’t do dumb things like that.greeneyed wrote: ↑August 26, 2019, 1:27 am I don’t agree. Out of proportion in an actual way (i.e. a tiny human blowing a very large horn), or a more metaphorical way?Billy Walker wrote: ↑August 26, 2019, 1:47 amVery good NR
