Lots left out in that story... and it’s intimated it’s all the Raiders fault... which isn’t correct.

I didn’t mind the Sportsbet ad - had a chuckle but also thought it’s probably healthy that he feels enough at peace with it that he could have a laugh about it like Hoppa does about his infamous finger. The thing that doesn’t marry though are he statements in the ACA piece about how it haunts him and defines him etc - if it concerns you that much perhaps don’t revisit it in an ad....Fuifui Bradbrad wrote: ↑August 15, 2019, 10:44 pm Has anyone seen his Sportsbet ad? Former NRL star Todd Carney faces up to the Hard Truth
Todd Carney's voice is that of a man ready to own his mistakes. "If you put me in a perfect world today, then I probably would have played over 300 games at the Raiders," Carney said.
Carney was prepared to accept the terms [proposed by the Raiders to avoid his sacking] - but the day he walked into the boardroom there was just one man waiting to tell him his time was up.

Re: Ex Raiders... where are they now?
Some re-writing of history. This is what actually happened...
"The incident led to the club imposing an ultimatum on Carney which included a five-point plan.
Whereby Carney would have to:
Stand-down from training and matches for the rest of the season.
To go on an alcohol ban until the end of 2012.
Undergo counselling.
Complete a community service programme.
To also pay a $20,000 fine.
The NRL threatened to de-register his contract for two-years, if Carney did not accept this plan in order to protect the Raiders from losing him to another club.
Carney asked for a variation of the plan where he could avoid points one and two.
This was unacceptable to the club's board and on 7 August 2008, the Canberra club sacked Carney and terminated his $400,000 a season contract."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_Carn ... _(2004-09)
Here's the thread with the news reports at the time: https://www.thegh.com.au/forum/viewtopi ... =2&t=11489
The plan was put one week, he thought he would negotiate about the terms of the plan and which terms he'd accept, days passed, he was going to come present his case to the board... but by the Monday, the board had decided enough already. So I suppose he could have in his own mind, have been ready to accept everything on the Monday... but that's is when he was informed his contract was terminated. However, the previous responses given to the club were that he was not prepared to accept the plan in full.

Re: Ex Raiders... where are they now?
Am currently reading his book- it was only $19 at big w and i like a comedy!
Only got through the first bit, some interesting interpretations of things. Very much blames the raiders for a lot.
My favourite bit in the prologue- as he sat on the bench waiting to make his debut against the dogs on the central coast, the song "I was only 19" was playing in his head......
His dad was one of those " i couldn't make it so i will live my dream through my son" kinda fathers, very very full on

$19 is cheap for a new release- can we start taking bets at how low it will go. I’d say $9.99 is a given but wouldn’t be shocked to see it $4.99 given time.cat wrote: ↑August 24, 2019, 4:34 pm Am currently reading his book- it was only $19 at big w and i like a comedy!

Re: Ex Raiders... where are they now?
I just finished Sione Fauminua's book. A different time back then, he singled out Germ as dishing out some abuse he didn't appreciate. He mentioned Woolford, Croker and Davico as being part of the clique that would look down on others in the squad.
Perhaps more interestingly he briefly mentioned talking to Elliott about a return to the Raiders in 2004 or 2005 when things were going off the rails at the Warriors. I got the impression it never went anywhere, didn't sound like Elliott was too keen on the idea.

Re: Ex Raiders... where are they now?
Davico, Germ and Croker had some idiosyncrasies that didn't help them or the club. Very, very arrogant people.
Very lucky as well.
Croker in particular has a reputation. Germ and Croker just unjustifiably arrogant.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Good luck to him, hope he gets the gig. Can’t be easy to make a case for a job when your previous experience at the level didn’t go so well and all you have is 2IC experience since then. I hope he does well but he might struggle I think.

Huddersfield's Woolford may return to Australia early
Huddersfield coach Simon Woolford has revealed he will quit the English club and return to Australia if the club are relegated from Super League. Huddersfield are two points ahead of bottom club London Broncos with two rounds left of the regular season. He's contracted to end 2020.
"Obviously if the Giants go down, we're all out of a job," Woolford said. "If that was to happen, I'd go back to Australia, no doubt about that.

When I was a kid, I liked St Helens because their uniform matched the Dragons' (Raiders weren't in the comp yet) and Hull Kingston Rovers because I thought there some sort of cool reggae connection. I did say I was a kid.
