Canberra Raiders legend Ruben Wiki inducted into NRL Hall of Fame
Two of New Zealand rugby league's greatest servants will take centre stage with Stacey Jones, Ruben Wiki, Danny Buderus and Craig Young crowned as the latest inductions to the NRL Hall of Fame.
Jones and Wiki boast more than 100 Tests for the Kiwis and rank among the best to ever pull on the black and white, joining countryman Mark Graham as the only New Zealanders among the 106 Hall of Fame members.
One of the toughest players of his era, Ruben Wiki had a decorated 318-game premiership career for the Canberra Raiders and New Zealand Warriors.

Four of Rugby League’s finest players have been chosen to join the NRL Hall of Fame
The four players to join the 2019 Hall of Fame Class are:
Craig Young
Stacey Jones
Ruben Wiki
Danny Buderus
A voting college representing a cross section of the game selected their top five players to be included in the exclusive Hall of Fame club. The four players were selected through an independent audit of the votes.
All four players will formally join the Hall of Fame in a ceremony in Sydney tomorrow evening (Wednesday, 14 August).
NRL Chief Executive Todd Greenberg said the four inductees were all worthy recipients of the honour.
“All four of our player inductees will stand proudly alongside the 106 players who they will join in the Hall of Fame,” Mr Greenberg said.
“These are some of the best players of their generations, and they will now join the best of the best.
“They each dominated their respective eras and commanded enormous respect. They still do.
“This year’s Hall of Fame class is an exceptional one. We will be recognising greatness when our latest Class are formally inducted.”
Senior Manager of NRL Awards, Frank Puletua, said the induction ceremony, tomorrow night (Wednesday, August 14) would be one of the most important nights on the calendar.
“This year, we will be acknowledging our contributors as well as our players,” Mr Puletua said.
“The Hall of Fame induction has become an incredibly important night for the game as we take the opportunity to reflect on our pioneers and our finest players.
“All four of our player inductees can now forever be known as Hall of Famers, and that only adds to their standing in the game.”
Three contributors – one each from Administration, Broadcast Media and Print Media – will be announced tomorrow ahead of the formal induction.

Re: Canberra Raiders legend Ruben Wiki inducted into NRL Hall of Fame
My favourite Canberra Raider of all time.
My favourite memories of him were as a young centre. Like when he scored 4 tries against Newcastle early on his career.
I can remember him debuting for the Raiders in Craig Bellamy's u21 side. He came off the bench with 5 minutes to go and played on the wing. He never touched the ball but I thought he had the goods even then.
After a few games in u21s, Dean Lance put him in his reserve grade side (at centre) and he never looked back.

Well deserved. One of NZ's most decorated footballers of all time
A hard man, a hard player but someone who played the game fairly and paid it respect throughout his career. Leader.

I absolutely loved watching him play during each incarnation.
Was absolutely gutted when he left but it didn't diminish my joy at watching him play one bit.

I grew up playing the ball left footed because of Ruben Wiki. As a young Kiwi league fan he was one of the main reasons I got really passionate about supporting the Raiders as a 10 year old back in 1994. When he stuck with the Raiders in 1995 so did I.

Badge and Kevvie were fantastic players but no doubt in my mind Wiki is the right call to induct. Just a genuine hard man. Great call!

Re: Canberra Raiders legend Ruben Wiki inducted into NRL Hall of Fame
No brainer inductee.
I don't think I appreciated how good he was while he was playing in the centres. Always hard running and a rock solid defender, but in amongst that team of ours in the mid-90's he was probably overshadowed a bit.
When time passed and he moved into the forwards as well as taking on more of a leadership role, his true value shone. He was the heart and soul of this team from 2001-2004 - even more so for the Kiwis.
Unbelievable footballer. Was gutted when he left.

I think I remember his first game after he got cleared to return for us, vs Broncos and he was straight away ripping in.

Well deserved for Ruben, back line, back row, front row, hard man in every position. When he and Mal were the center pairing, it was the toughest defensive center pair I've ever seen. Nirvana for us defensophiles.

Just watching Ricky Stuart presenting the jacket to Ruben Wiki in tonight's cermony. Had a bit of a tear in the eye.

Was going to say, how good does Ruben look for a 46 yr old former forward! tip top shape. What a legend of our game, well deserved.greeneyed wrote: ↑August 15, 2019, 3:33 pm Wiki punches out push-ups on Hall of Fame red carpet: https://www.nrl.com/news/2019/08/15/wik ... ed-carpet/

Haha not quite. Was pushing for that to be the middle name but couldn’t convince her.
