Sia Soliola nominated for 2019 Ken Stephen Medal
Canberra Raiders forward Sia Soliola nominated for 2019 Ken Stephen Medal
James Tedesco, Josh Addo-Carr, Gavin Cooper, Connor Watson and Sia Soliola are amongst some of the game's biggest names to be nominated by their clubs for the 2019 Ken Stephen Medal.
The 2019 Ken Stephen Medallist will be announced during Grand Final week, with voting now open on NRL.com, providing fans the opportunity to select a nominee they feel deserves to be a finalist. The player with the highest number of votes will be included as one of four finalists announced next month.
Three other finalists will be voted via a panel of judges from across the game's administration.
This is the 31st year of the Ken Stephen Medal, with the award recognising the efforts of an NRL player who has not only achieved on the field, but has committed time off the field to supporting community projects.
2019 will also see the introduction of a reciprocal medal for a female NRL player – the Veronica White Medal – with nominees also announced next month.
NRL Head of Government and Community Relations, Jaymes Boland-Rudder said this year's Ken Stephen Medal nominees showcased a glimpse of a majority of NRL players that privately and publicly support community and charitable initiatives throughout the year.
"Each of the nominees have had wonderful seasons to date and are to be congratulated for focusing their efforts off the field in a range of positive ways, ultimately benefiting local communities," Mr Boland-Rudder said.
"Regardless of the final award, I thank these nominees – and many more – for their support of NRL, club and personal community programs throughout the year."
Fan voting is open on the NRL's community page on NRL.com through to 9:00am on Monday 19 August.

Josh Dugan and Corey Norman?
NRL should have stepped in right there, they are having a laugh.
Those two aren't fit to have breakfast with Sia

I remember when sia helped that lady who had here stuff stolen, he walked around with her looking for it and in the end gave her some money from his own pocket , god bless that beautiful champion

Interestingly Police issued a photo identikit of the thief. He had multiple tattoos, a bad mullet, was holding a vodka cruiser and was seriously injured whilst escaping the crime scene. The injury proved to be not so bad after he received attention. The thief is no longer a wanted man.Goldcoast Raider wrote:I remember when sia helped that lady who had here stuff stolen, he walked around with her looking for it and in the end gave her some money from his own pocket , god bless that beautiful champion

Re: Sia Soliola nominated for 2019 Ken Stephen Medal
You may have seen over the last few days what has happened to Mose Masoe in a pre-season game for Hull KR. After a routine tackle, a disc slipped in his back and pinched his spinal column - paralysing him.
He'll never player again and the current prognosis is that walking again will be a good outcome.
The reason this is here. The first player from your side of the world to offer love and support - as well as a substantial donation to the fighting fund - was, of course, Sia Soliola.
He really is a very good guy.

Sia Soliola is an amazing bloke. There are countless things he does on and off the field. What I’m so impressed about is his genuine love of the club and fans... It is infectious and engages the fan base.
On a side note I flicked Sia a msg about my sons 10th bday and he was all too happy to send a video message with a cameo from Papa. My son said that was his best present ever!!!
