Belcher v Jack once again. Badge has him covered! Wiki is my pick of the Raiders lads though.

Wiki is a walk up start. If he's not a HOFer then you're doing the HOF wrong.

How quite a number of these players are already not in the Hall of Fame surprises. Belcher and Wiki certainly deserve to be included.

They should probably start by including, or then eliminating, all the old era players first.

I'm not sure how many people actually get a go this time round, but I'd be thinking:

Gary Belcher
Ruben Wiki
Stacey Jones
Michael O’Connor
Dick Thornett

with O'Connor and Wiki at the front of the queue

Some absolute champions not yet in the Hall of Fame. Steve Renouf was one of the most electrifying centers I've ever seen. Different eras but only maybe half a stride behind the Immortal Reg Gasnier imo.

I wonder why they limit the numbers to 4. They could do say a Pre-1980 four and a post 1980 four. Players like Ian Moir are no longer with us but I'm sure it would be a great legacy for his surviving family/friends/supporters. These were the players who helped build the popularity of the code.

Up to four players. One of the challenges with using the rep records as a guide is that some eras included some great rivalries, while others do not. For example, Belcher and Jack. Jack held onto Kangaroos jerseys probably longer than he should, but he was the incumbent and Belcher had to dislodge him. But two great fullbacks who couldn’t fit into one team.

Then there’s the issue that players in the Sydney competition have all their games counted, but for some strange reason, Brisbane competition games are left aside. Belcher’s games in the BRL simply forgotten.

Greg Alexander was a good player, but a clear step below Sterling, Stuart, Langer in the overlapping period.

If he wasn’t in the media, I doubt he would be mentioned so often.

Hard to believe Terry Randall doesn’t deserve a spot.
Multiple grand final wins, NSW and Australian appearances.
And he exemplified an era when staunch toughness was an accepted part of the game.
But I won’t hold my breath as these gongs are used to sanitise history.

Danny Bederus??   I don't see how passing the ball to Andrew Johns qualifies you as a rugby league great.

Gary Belcher, Ruben Wiki head Canberra Raiders chances for NRL hall of fame

Canberra Raiders greats Gary Belcher and Ruben Wiki are in the running to enter the NRL hall of fame. Throw in Kevin Walters' role in the 1989 triumph to round out the ACT's links to the 25 former players in contention to be the next four additions to the hall of fame next week.

He certainly is ahead of Bulgarelli on my merit list.

I do get concerned that players like K Walters and Alexander get remembered more fondly as players through their continued involvement in the game, compared to the likes of Clyde, Stacey Jones and Brett Kenny etc who don’t get too many mentions.

As long as it's not Greg Alexander and/or Paul Harragon, I'll be okay with it.
Some people talk about the weather. Others do something about it.
