The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

Where’s Bipolar Bear?! Realised yesterday he hasn’t posted in forever!
In other news, faith lost in Sydney’s new Metro train. It’s had 3 breakdowns in a week, 2 of them were yesterday. Because of the way it’s built, there’s no contingency for breakdowns, so if one of them shuts down it blocks the whole line up. Plus where the train goes, there’s no back up trains, and Buses in those areas were cancelled to be replaced by the Metro.
The result was a 55 min train home turning into a 3hr train home. 1hr of that was standing around in Castle Hill wondering where these buses were that they kept banging on about, because there were 0 Metro staff directing people.
Flirt with the new train is over, heading back to the old Sydney Trains. Sure they **** up also, and drivers occasionally don’t turn up to work, but it’s never as bad as Metro

To be honest, I’m really getting in a funk over things like this. It’s just been a **** week.
Literally 2 secs before I posted this, I went into Subway and ordered my legendary Sub I posted not long ago. Told the guy that I’d like a big line of BBQ Sauce, guy does a big line of Garlic instead. The line was too big and I don’t have the time to make them do a new one.
Monday I went into work and saw this massive split on the inside of my pant leg, and needed to frantically go out and buy new work pants.
Add Tuesdays train problems, and life’s starting to get to me a bit this week

Yeah I know, swings and roundabouts. The universe must be preparing me for something awesome around the corner.
I can’t control my pants splitting, train breakdowns or a Sandwich Artist grabbing the wrong sauce bottle, but I can control how it makes me feel.
