Agree...and I'd even throw in SMarsh as a better option at opener. Bancroft has some inherent flaws in his technique, primarily front foot placement and head position, which will be difficult to overcome at test level. They were apparent before his suspension and watching this test its obvious he hasn't rectified them.

I know you are bitter about Patterson and Burns, but the series and country changed, not just the Test. Bancroft won't get dropped. Wade is the batsman most at risk.
As for Bancroft, he gets at least 2 games.

Re: The Cricket Thread
I'm all for next gen players applying pressure to incumbents through exceptional consistent performance. I just don't see Bancroft's test record or First Class record as evidence of that. Imo he is a handy Shield player and nothing more in the long form game. Burns Test average is about 10 per innings better than Bancroft. To quote Geoff Toovey 'There has to be an investigation'.
While they are investigating that clanger - do a simultaneous report on Starc vs Siddle. Starc has better averages both bowling and batting. The aim of Test Cricket should be to win. The CA selection policy doesn't appear to be in line with that goal.
I can only hope that later this evening the 'real' new ball bowlers will get the opportunity to do what they do best from the start of Day 5.

Siddle was a ridiculous call but Lyon is our best bowler given the conditions imo.RedRaider wrote: ↑August 5, 2019, 1:45 pm I watched the match until stumps this morning. We get a lead of 398 and have 7 overs to bowl. Who do we give the new ball too? Peter bloody Riddle and GOAT?? Why not our best 2 new ball bowlers?? A joke.
Matt, Bancroft is not good enough to be an Australian opening batsman. He can only be there to fill some WA quota. Imo Burns should be opening. Bancroft to go back to sanding surf boards.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Haha, I think someone broke the stump mic. The batsmen complaining about a buzzing noise coming from it, and when the fieldsmen came close they could clearly hear it too.

I’ve played cricket in every form for the last 25 years. I have never once been unsure if I had hit a ball or not.
Basically reviewed in hope that the computer doesn’t pick it up. I call that cheating.

Re: The Cricket Thread
GOAT gets a 6 for and Cummins a 4 for. Game over. They also took 3 each in England's first innings. 16 wickets between the two New South Welshmen. The selectors left out two more New South Welshmen in Starc and Hazelwood. I would expect at least one of them to play at Lords. Smith with a century in each innings a deserved MOTM. Now on to Lords where Smith scored a double ton (in a single innings) in 2015.
There is a tour match prior to the Lords Test. I expect the players who will open the batting to put pressure on the selectors. While Bancroft took a fine catch at short forward square leg, he failed twice with the bat and really has no history of being a quality Test opener. Only the selectors could explain why the better credentialed Joe Burns is not in this squad.

Well, seems I could have stayed up after all - looks like it was all done not that long after midnight! I wasn't expecting them to collapse quite so easily!
There's a few cracks going around social media that we "won" as well - we scored more boundaries than England, too.

I doubt they will change a winning team which could mean a reprieve for Bancroft. There are several better options though.RedRaider wrote: ↑August 6, 2019, 2:26 am GOAT gets a 6 for and Cummins a 4 for. Game over. If Starc was carrying a niggle and is right to go then he might come in for Siddle or Pattinson. We all know CA loves "rotation" with their quicks. Keep them in cotton wool as much as possible. Although that's probably a big reason why they get injured so often. Too much gym work and not enough bowling.
