2016 Austin vs 2019 Wighton.
Not sure which I’d go with.
Wighton’s best is better than Austin’s, given both defence and attack.
However Wighton is still partial to absolute howler games. I don’t think we had that view on Austin in 16, that was 17/18.
Also agree that we haven’t beaten anyone yet really. Across the board, The comp is definitely as weak as it’s been for some time. Roosters and Storm appear in a league of their own and have the finals experience over us.

Some very harsh comments on Clydsdale. Always put in.

2016 would score more points.
2019 defends better.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Could not of worded it better myself.Northern Raider wrote:All reasonable observations. Our W/L record against the top 6 teams is ordinary but we've been competitive with all of them sans Storm in Rnd2. Even then it was only 12 point loss.PigRickman wrote: ↑August 4, 2019, 5:59 pmI side on this side of things right now, because it's 100% spot on.
We aint beat no body yet.
Yet.
I have more faith in this team than i did the 2016 team. I believe we will beat legitmate contender and i think we can... and nay... we WILL, win the GF. Lets go.
We'll know soon enough as **** gets real over the next month. Playing Roosters, Storm, Manly and Sharks. That's going to tell us exactly where we sit as either contenders or pretenders.

Re: 2016 versus 2019
This is professional sports, every one save some VERY rare cases, put in.
He came and did his best and he's better than 99.9% of players who touch a footy. I bare no ill will, but he was not a good contributor.

Re: 2016 versus 2019
Blake Austin wasn't crash hot in 2016, He was injured/on the comeback from injury for a fair chunk of 2016 with him missing rounds 2-4, 7-8, and then breaking his hand in the lead up to the finals and missing another 3 games, from memory he never really got going in 2016, Wighton in 2019 has him easily covered imo

2016 versus 2019
I think your memory is corrupted. My memory is that Blake was still playing very well in 2016 (not as well as 2015 though) and that rushing him back with the hand injury was considered quite important for our chances.
Also note that we lost a lot of games in that early season period he was out for.

Re: 2016 versus 2019
That always amazed me. He was the Dally M 5/8 of the year in 2015 I think, then pretty much failed to register a single Dally M point for the remaining three years at the Raiders, (except probably the Bulldogs game last year when he came on in the last 15 mins and pretty much single handedly won it for us).kiwi raider wrote: ↑August 5, 2019, 11:00 ammy memory is fine.gangrenous wrote: ↑August 5, 2019, 8:56 am I think your memory is corrupted. Yeah other than 2015 Austin didn't really do anything special. 2016 he wasn't anywhere near those heights.

Re: 2016 versus 2019
Loses in 2016:
Draw with Knights (16th)
Titans by 4 (8th)
Eels by 30 (14th)
Sharks by 24 (3rd)
Panthers by 1 (6th)
Dragons by 4 (11th)
Broncos by 8 (5th)
*Sharks by 2
*Storm by 2
Loses in 2019:
Storm by 22 (1st)
Sea Eagles by 4 (5th)
Roosters by 6 (2nd)
Rabbits by 4 (4th)
Cowboys by 6 (13th)
Eels by 6 (6th)
The biggest thing people are forgetting is how we often looked **** against the **** teams, this year while we have dropped the one to the Cowboys and Eels they are more an anomaly than what felt expected in 2016 with the rocks or diamonds play we so often had.
It's a bummer we can't get some actual stats on it like handling errors, etc. If only such a thing existed on the internet we could compare actual facts not just feels

Eels would have finished 8th (probably higher) if they didn't cheat the capUltima wrote:Loses in 2016:

While the storm beat us convincingly I'm pretty sure they didn't beat us by a margin of 22 points

Re: 2016 versus 2019
big difference between 2016 and 2019 I see is that in 2016 we came from the fringe of the 8 to go on a 10 game winning streak to finish 2nd.
2019 we have been established in the top 4 or 5 all year and defence has been the foundation for that.
