Williams played well. The other edge struggled. They need to blood a few more of our 20’s through now!

That final 20 minutes was really poor. Some of the defence...
Re: 2019 Mounties
Mounties first half was clinical when Sam played the dominant half role. 100% agree with the defence late! Penrith got half a sniff an bang mounties rolled over.

Last match: The Canberra Raiders NSW Cup affiliate Mounties crashed to their fifth straight loss on Sunday afternoon, defeated by the Penrith Panthers, 24-14, at Panthers Stadium.
Mounties produced two 40/20 kicks in the opening 30 minutes through Tom Starling and Sam Williams, but both teams made repeated errors and were unable to put points on the board.
The Panthers tested the referees to the absolute limit, deliberately conceding penalties in the red zone so as to stop Mounties scoring. Finally, in the 33rd minute, Panthers second rower William Burns was sent to the sin bin for an illegal strip - and Mounties piled on a couple of tries in his absence.
Mounties half Brendan O'Hagan scored almost immediately after the sin binning, while Jack Murchie made a barnstorming run to the try line in the 38th minute. Murchie capitalised on a great run from Andre Niko on the previous play - and Mounties went to the break with a 12-0 lead.
Mounties added to their tally with a penalty goal in the 54th minute, but that was the end of the scoring for the men in black and yellow. Penrith had most of the momentum in the final 20 minutes and Mounties seemed powerless to stop it.
Prop Spencer Leniu crossed in the 60th minute, barging over under the posts and allowing Penrith to draw within eight points. With nine minutes remaining, a Sam Williams kick to the in goal was scooped up by fullback Caleb Aekins and he made a massive run downfield - putting the Panthers in position for a second Leniu try. The Panthers trailed by two, but they weren't anywhere near finished.
Penrith scored two more tries in the final five minutes - first, Sione Katoa and then Matt Burton, in the final minute. Some of the Mounties defence couldn't be described as anything other than soft.
Tom Starling (13 runs for 104 metres, 23 post contact metres, three tackle breaks, 12 dummy half runs for 99 metres, one offload, nine dummies and 43 tackles, one 40/20, two kicks for 64 metres) and Jack Murchie (one try, 13 runs for 135 metres, 49 post contact metres, one line break, 27 tackles) stood out for Mounties.
Starling (43), Dan Keir (35) and Hudson Young (35) topped the tackle count for Mounties, while Andre Niko (148), Murchie (135) and Tony Satini (124) topped the metres gained.
This week: Mounties are still in sixth place on the competition ladder, but they are starting to lose touch with the top four. This week, they face the eighth placed Warriors at North Harbour Stadium. The Warriors had a 30-22 win over the Wentworthville Magpies in their last outing at Western Sydney Stadium. They have also had recent wins over the Newtown Jets (34-8) and the North Sydney Bears (32-10). They have had one recent loss, to the Newcastle Knights, 12-0, at Hunter Stadium in Round 16.
Mounties have won just once in their past eight matches, an 18-12 win over the Western Suburbs Magpies at Campbelltown Stadium in Round 13.
Mounties had been the No. 1 ranked attacking team for some time, but are now running second to the Dragons for most points scored. The Warriors rank a lowly 10th in attack, but they are the No. 2 ranked team in defence. Mounties still rank 10th - in a league of just 12 teams - for most points conceded.
Season record: Mounties 8 and 8, 1 draw (6th, +56)
Warriors 7 and 8, 2 draws (8th, -5)
Attack: Mounties 27 points, Warriors 19 points scored per match
Mounties rank 2nd, Warriors 10th
Defence: Mounties 24 points, Warriors 19 points conceded per match
Mounties rank 10th, Warriors 2nd

2018 Round 9 - Mounties 30 defeated New Zealand Warriors 26 at Canberra Stadium
Head to head: Mounties 9, Warriors 4, Drawn 1
Mounties team changes: Dean Matterson takes over the No. 1 jersey, after Daine Spencer was injured in his debut last weekend. Ata Hingano (hand) returns at five eighth after a long lay off, with Brendan O'Hagan dropping back to the bench. JJ Collins replaces Vincent Rennie at starting prop, with Rennie named as a reserve. Luke Bateman (knee) also returns at lock after a long period on the sideline, replacing Dan Keir, who drops to the bench. Reuben Porter comes back into the squad on the bench, with Jarrett Boland dropping out.
Our tip: After a great start to the season, Mounties have suffered a real slump. They have no doubt been affected by injury and suspension to Raiders players. But in recent matches, they have been fielding relatively strong teams and they have not been putting it together on the field. They are generally scoring enough points to win games, but too often have faded in the final stages. This week, they'll benefit from the return of Ata Hingano and Luke Bateman. But until Mounties show some better form - and better defence - it is hard to tip anything other than a Warriors win on home turf in this one.

Re: 2019 Mounties
I don't like to keep sticking the boot into O'Hagan but it's pretty clear at this stage he either puts on 8kg in the off-season or moves on. His defense just doesn't seem to improve.
If mounties want to win some more games I'd be playing Matterson at 6 and O'Hagan can drop down a grade.
Re: 2019 Mounties
It wasn't just O'Hagan missing tackles though...

Re: 2019 Mounties
How did Hudson Young go?
Re: 2019 Mounties
He went OK for a first game back.
Re: 2019 Mounties
He went OK for a first game back. Played 80 metres. Didn't break 100 metres, but made 35 tackles.
Re: 2019 Mounties
Greeneyed is right they where all missing tackles. I don’t think its Ohagan’s size at all. Just a reluctance to get right in front. Sam missed a heap as well although it did seem the target in the Penrith attack plan was Ohagan’s edge. Brendan might need a few sets each week at hooker to get his confidence up. At one stage Mckendry gave it to him which seemed to rattle his cage for the worse. Be interesting what the club do with him next year. Hingano back this week which will be interesting. Hudson went ok. Hes a competitor and just needs a few more miles in the legs over the next few weeks.

That’s a pretty impressive reserve grade lineup. Numbers 6-13 all with first grade experience.

MATCH REPORT: Mounties crash to sixth loss in a row
A late try by Setu Tu has sealed a hard fought 36-22 win for the Warriors over Mounties today at North Harbour Stadium in Auckland.
Despite the challenging, blustery conditions, the Warriors made a good start. Adam Keighran danced through some weak defence off their first possession to score next to the posts in only the third minute.

Last match: It is becoming an old, repetitive story. The Canberra Raiders NSW Cup affiliate Mounties crashed to their sixth straight loss on Saturday, defeated by the New Zealand Warriors, 34-22, at Auckland's North Harbour Stadium.
The Warriors scored first after just three minutes to Adam Keighran, but Mounties then put on three tries - to Tony Satini, Sam Williams and Sebastian Kris. Mounties led 16-6 at one stage, and 16-12 at half time... but then failed to go on with it in the second half. The Warriors scored four tries after the break. While a Brendan O'Hagan try in the 68th minute brought Mounties back within six points of the Warriors - trailing 28-22 - the New Zealand outfit wrapped up the game with a second try for Setu Tu inside the final five minutes.
Mounties had 53 per cent of possession and clearly the better of the metres gained. However the Warriors produced 41 tackle breaks (Mounties 25), 12 offloads (Mounties five) and six line breaks (Mounties two). Mounties had an effective tackle rate of just 78 per cent (90 per cent for the Warriors), missing 41 tackles and producing 18 in effective tackles. Defence, clearly, continues to be a major problem for the Mounties team.
Tom Starling (37), Hudson Young (27) and Royce Hunt (22) topped the tackle count for Mounties, while JJ Collins (153), Jack Murchie (140) and Reubenn Rennie (133) topped the metres gained. Starling and Young did a lot of defensive work, but also produced the most missed and ineffective tackles. Sam Williams got three try assists and one line break assist. He also scored a try off his own kick, which rebounded off the goal post padding.
This week: Mounties have now dropped to seventh on the ladder, with the Warriors jumping over them into sixth - and they are now four competition points away from the fourth placed Dragons. This week, they face the second placed Canterbury Bulldogs at Blacktown's HE Laybutt Field. It is a home match for Mounties, but it has been transferred to Blacktown for Sunday's broadcast match on Nine GEM.
The Bulldogs had a 26-22 win in their last outing over the Penrith Panthers at Western Sydney Stadium, the first home game for the Dogs at the new venue. The lead changed seven times in the match - with the Bulldogs ultimately taking control in the 68th minute through a try to fullback Toa Mata'afa. It was revenge for a 28-18 loss to the Panthers a month earlier. The Bulldogs have also suffered a recent loss to the Newtown Jets (32-12) at Henson Park, while they've had recent wins over the Knights (12-8) and the Jets (40-28).
Mounties have won just once in their past nine matches, an 18-12 win over the Western Suburbs Magpies at Campbelltown Stadium in Round 13.
Mounties had been the No. 1 ranked attacking team for some time, but are now running second to the Dragons for most points scored. But it is their poor defence that is really costing them. The Bulldogs rank fifth in attack and eighth in defence... but they're doing enough to win games.
Season record: Mounties 8 and 9, 1 draw (7th, +44)
Bulldogs 11 and 6, 1 draw (2nd, +11)
Attack: Mounties 27 points, Bulldogs 23 points scored per match

Mounties team changes: With the return of Raiders back Nick Cotric from suspension, Michael Oldfield has become available for Mounties. He replaces Dean Matterson in the No. 1 jersey, with Matterson dropping to the bench. Harley Smith Shields has been named on the wing in place of Andre Niko.
With Ryan Sutton returning from injury for the Raiders, Emre Guler goes back to Mounties at starting prop, with Royce Hunt missing from the top 17. Reuben Porter replaces Luke Bateman at lock, who is also missing from the squad after returning last week. Jarrett Boland has been called up to the bench, with Brendan O'Hagan not named in the squad.
Our tip: The Mounties are in a massive slump. They have been significantly affected by injury and suspension to Raiders players. But they have getting personnel back on the park in recent weeks - and should be even stronger this week. They have been scoring more than enough points to win games, but their defence keeps letting them down - and they keep fading in the second half. The Bulldogs are obvious favourites in this game - and it's tough to tip Mounties until they demonstrate on the field that they've turned it around. A win would no doubt do a lot for their confidence. They just have to somehow jag one.

Preview
Mounties rank 2nd, Bulldogs 5th
Defence: Mounties 25 points, Bulldogs 22 points conceded per match
Mounties rank 10th, Bulldogs 8th

Bulldogs: WLWLW

Re: 2019 Mounties
Would like to see them swap Oldfield and Smith-Shields but great to see him get some more Mounties time.
Re: 2019 Mounties
Game on GEM this week which is ironic that the one time we are on 9/GEM it is the same time as a Raiders game.
Will record it.
