Oh well 5 world cups I guess we can't win them all
Re: The Cricket Thread
Let’s hope we can get the ball moving early. Have to knock over the top 3 early.
Re: The Cricket Thread
I'm going to sleep we are no chance.
Re: The Cricket Thread
People did this when we were 4 fa against South Africa in the 1999 semi before Bevan and Waugh rescued us. More went to sleep before Warne turned the game again. Then Alan Donald went to sleep when Kluesner hit what should have been the winning shot.Azza wrote:I'm going to sleep we are no chance.
Re: The Cricket Thread
Well Wade is a better batter and bowler than Stoinis so it wouldn’t have hurt.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
Re: The Cricket Thread
Oh well we got spanked but I'm a sad sack who takes a little pleasure out of others misfortune and in this case I've actually enjoyed India's loss more than I'm upset over our loss.

I just enjoyed catching up on NR and Azza sniping at each other half the night
I’m assuming they eventually went home with each other?

Oh, we didn't even bowl well. Sigh.
I suppose this means I'm cheering for New Zealand on Sunday.

Well....
Thats the collapse I was worried about.
Handscomb was never comfortable.
Stoinis was awful.
Maxwell never makes me nervous no matter if he is 1, 51 or 101.

Re: The Cricket Thread
England will because NZ can't pull off two upsets in a row. But I'll be cheering them.
Stoinis and Maxwell should have their papers stamped never to play again. Ashton Turner looked good in India, time to start looking at new options. Miss the days of reliable middle order options :-(

Re: The Cricket Thread
Ashes line up should be interesting.
To be honest I haven’t really followed the county form closely but I’d go with this.
Warner
Harris
Khawaja**
Smith
Head
Wade
Paine (wk) (c)
Cummins
Pattinson
Starc
Lyon
If Khawaja is injured still maybe that Marcus Lasagna bloke or Handscomb or K. Pattinson
??
Have I forgot anyone?

Labuschagne for Khawaja and that's pretty spot on tbh

Re: The Cricket Thread
Didn't Pattinson do well in the Sri Lanka test series? Surely he would be a good chance of a call up. Won't be an easy series, but that's obvious.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Cruel, the deflection off stokes bat when he was diving for his crease that ended up being 6 runs is the only reason England made it to the super over, congrats to England but I don't think you could say they were the best team today, both teams score 15 off the super over yet England win, cut the cup in half?
Re: The Cricket Thread
Yeah very close. fate was with England with the ricochet
Re: The Cricket Thread
congrats to nz for not losing and always being able to remind England they didn't win

Re: The Cricket Thread
Ha yeah.
What a crappy ending..ENG crowned champions because they hit more boundaries than NZ..
Why didn't they just play another super over ?

Re: The Cricket Thread
Great game. NZ fielding was amazing (other than Boult error on the boundary catch).
NZ probably deserved to win, but they were more than a little unlucky with some umpiring decisions, English play and misses and definitely bounce of the ball didn’t go their way.

Re: The Cricket Thread
exactly! another super over would have been far more fair, and the amount of wickets taken would be a better tie breaker than amount of boundaries, A Wicket is a far bigger moment/point of a match than a boundary,
I also think England getting to bat first in the super over is a huge advantage, they had Stokes with his eye in after facing 100 balls and Butler who had not long gone out, then we have to send two guys out that had been fielding for 3/4 hours and had probably completely clocked off the idea of having to bat again.
Huge effort from the black caps to just about win it when they were playing nowhere near there best, just fough for every inch, they were arguably the better team just England had all the luck

Or just share the trophy

Re: The Cricket Thread
I agree. Just call it a tie. Super over concept is stupid and ridiculously dependent on luck.
Re: The Cricket Thread
Wow. What a game. Worthy of a final. Well played and congrats to England

Re: The Cricket Thread
This result still does not sit comfortably with me.
I agree they either need to keep going until there is a result or to just call it a draw.
Count back for boundaries is the stupidest thing I have heard.
