Same team but with Cotric for Kris.
I'd think about starting Sutton and using Tapine or Lui off the bench so that the rotation is more effective.

Yeah I would, it was betwen Sutton and Lui for me and Lui played better last night. Finding Sutton a little bit lazy on the inside with shuting the gate... if you know what I mean-PJ- wrote:You dropped Sutton..LastRaider wrote: ↑June 30, 2019, 6:24 am 1. CNK

Not a lot of changes needed, if we didn’t clock off just before halftime we win that game.

17. Anybody but Horsburgh
Time to switch Bateman and Tapine into their natural positions IMO. Also, Horsburgh has just never done it for me, and I literally think we win if he wasn’t out there last night. It’s a massive reason I reckon we didn’t see him again after halftime too. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if Stick drops him for next game

Same team with two changes:
1. Cotric back in for Kris
2. The ticker and commitment we've seen for the rest of the season back in for the dropsies and weak defence we saw last night.

I was gonna name the same side with Guler as the final spot for Horsburgh. I like what he's done in other games but agree that he didn't show up against the Eels... happy for one of the others to get a run and for Horsburgh to return later on in the season. The Rickman wrote: ↑June 30, 2019, 1:31 pm Not a lot of changes needed, if we didn’t clock off just before halftime we win that game.

Josh Papalii backs Canberra Raiders teammate Jack Wighton to bounce back
Canberra Raiders big bopper Josh Papalii backs Jack Wighton to bounce back from his hot-and-cold game against Parramatta and thinks State of Origin will help him do it.
"I don't think he'll dwell too much on [Saturday night]. He tried his best and some things pulled off for him and some things didn't," Papalii said. "I've played with Jack for 130-140 games and I know what kind of player Jack is and he's definitely one that can bounce back."

Fast starts slow endings hurting Canberra Raiders: Billy Slater
Origin great Billy Slater says letting teams back into the game is becoming an issue for Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart.
"They've got a bit of a trend to do this, Canberra, and it's probably going to be a bit of an issue for Ricky Stuart and the coaching staff," he said.

Canberra Raiders: 'Aussie John' Bateman has a nice ring to it
John Bateman is loving Australia so much he's thinking of becoming a citizen.
"A few people have asked me about that. It's one of those things I'd definitely be interested in looking into," he said. "It would be massive for me. Josh [Hodgson] has got his now – 'Aussie Josh' is what we call him – and Elliott [Whitehead] is thinking about becoming 'Aussie Elliott'. I do really enjoy it here."

Well that's some good news this weekend!
Re: 2019 Rd 17 V Dragons: Teams and Previews
Tempted to go to this game. I don't get to many away games but I'll be in Sutherland for this game - no GE, not visiting my good mate Gallen - I guess it's a pretty easy train ride from Sutherland.

5 years ago we would be a deadset certainty to win this..... these days, no chance, Dragons have it all over us now.
Re: 2019 Rd 17 V Dragons: Teams and Previews
It might actually depend on whether I'll have my new glasses by then. It's been tough to attend games in the past few years with bad eyesight, spending more time watching the big screen than the live action.greeneyed wrote:gerg... you should come! My only queries is, does Tapine have 80mins in him? He still looks a little under done for mine. BUT, we do need Bateman's mongrel, and him having a few more touches. I suppose you could always just shift Bateo back to the edge if Tapine is gassed.
Young still has 2 games to go on his suspension. Who do you bring in? Guler? Do you carry Kris as injury cover?

And no, I don't carry an outside back on my bench to cover an injury, that's poor bench use.

I too would like to see Bateo back to lock and JoeTaps back on an edge.
I understand Taps is just a game or two back from injury but the more he plays the better he gets.
In my opinion Joe is a fantastic player, we just need to keep him on the paddock, he'll come good.
And John Bateman..he just wants the ball..want an animal !!

Yup, just makes sense to have them the other way around... complements both their games AND the team better to have Bateman in the guts and Tarps out wide.-PJ- wrote: ↑July 1, 2019, 12:23 pm I too would like to see Bateo back to lock and JoeTaps back on an edge.

Re: 2019 Rd 17 V Dragons: Teams and Previews
I dont mind the back on the bench, in the age of HIA, as long as you know there are enough mins in your pack and you have an 80min hooker. Which in our case we do. But I do see the other side of the equation, and my preference is to select versatility on the bench rather than backups - eg Havili, or a Wade Graham, etc.The Rickman wrote: ↑July 1, 2019, 12:16 pmHonestly, I bring in anybody to replace Horsburgh... The only thing that might sway that conversation is defensively. Bateman and Whitehead clean up a hell of a lot of mess on the edges and keep out halves pretty well protected. The Rickman wrote: ↑July 1, 2019, 12:39 pmYup, just makes sense to have them the other way around... complements both their games AND the team better to have Bateman in the guts and Tarps out wide.-PJ- wrote: ↑July 1, 2019, 12:23 pm I too would like to see Bateo back to lock and JoeTaps back on an edge.

While we have Sezer in the team instead of Williams I’m quite happy to have Tapine on the edge
Sezer doesn’t need a secondrower to “clean up for him”

Re: 2019 Rd 17 V Dragons: Teams and Previews
I used to be the biggest critic of whitehead but im his biggest fan these days.
With no cotric or leilua our outside backs are a bit less threatening so the need for a guy who has a good brain on him and distributes well to those monsters is a bit less. So maybe tapine by a nose for his aggression on the edge but really at full strength, for balance, i like whitehead being on an edge over tapine at this point in there careers.
You cant move bateman, he has been our best this year.

CNK
Simonsson
Croker
Cotric/Oldfield
Rapana
Wighton
Sezer
Papalii
Hodgson
Lui
Whitehead
Bateman
Sutton
Havili
Tapine
Soliola
Horsburgh/Guler
And I’d still consider trying a game with Havili playing the first 15 at hooker then continuing for another 10/15 as the sub for the first middle change. Tapine on the bench simply because I don’t think the pack is strong enough to have him and Papalii on the bench at the same time at all. And Sutton is a better starter than a benchy.

I would like to try the same thing too Jules, unfortunately I just don't think it would ever happen.julian87 wrote: ↑July 1, 2019, 2:53 pm CNK

Definitely agree re Sutton - all of his great games have been starting. Could we start him and have Lui off the bench if we leave Tapine in the starting line up?julian87 wrote: ↑July 1, 2019, 2:53 pm CNK

A couple of players are a performance away from being dropped. I also think we should change the interchange strategy a bit. Prefer Havili on later.

Re: 2019 Rd 17 V Dragons: Teams and Previews
I've picked Oldfield on the bench. We have lost some dire games because a centre was injured and the pack had to be reshuffled with Bateman going to the backs. He can play in the centres, but we lose a lot when he moves out there. Oldfield can cover centre and wing and if CNK gets injured, Cotric or Rapana can slot into his spot.

2. Simonsson

4. Cotric. Kris if he's still injured.
5. Rapana
6. Wighton
7. Williams. Sezar went missing far too often, despite putting in that kick for a try.
8. Lui
9. Hodgson
10. Papalii
11. Whitehead
12. Tapine
13. Bateman
14. Oldfield
15. Havilii
16. Soliola, simply because he always gets picked. The new Luke Bateman.

Re: 2019 Rd 17 V Dragons: Teams and Previews
Oldfield has been playing FB at Mounties when Simmonsen is up in FG, so easier just to slide him in there if an injury to CNK.
I'm 50/50 whether Hors gets a chance at redemption after his injury layoff. But to come back and look lazy... I can see your point.
Sutton straight out the back door? I don't think that will ha[[en but he's a bit lost when not starting.
Comparing Sia to L Bateman is harsh. But I was hoping he'd find his zip again after the break to refresh but he is starting to look a but like the game is passing him by a bit too often.
Batmen and Tapine swap could tighten up the middle.

Oldfield only played half the game for Mounties on the weekend. Presume there’s an injury issue.
