Win two tickets to Rugby League the Musical - and Denis Carnahan will write you a song!

Image

The Greenhouse - in conjunction with the Raiders Review with Blake and the Pork podcast - is running a special competition!

Rugby League - The Musical is coming to Canberra on the 27th of July and to celebrate we're running a competition where you can win two tickets to the show - plus Denis Carnahan will write a song just for you!

As many of you would know, Denis is a huge Canberra Raiders fan - so what we're asking you to do is nominate a Raiders historical event that you would like Denis to turn into a song. He's done it before... you might remember this...

So get to it! If you'd like to suggest a tune as well, all the better! The most imaginative, amusing, interesting, appealing, exciting suggestion will win the tickets!

You can make enter right here in this thread on TheGH.com.au, on The Greenhouse Facebook group and on The Raiders Review with Blake and the Pork Facebook page.

Denis, Blake, the Pork, and two of The GH Admin will judge the winner.

Rugby League The Musical
Saturday 27 July, 7:30pm
Duration: 120min
The Street Theatre
Tickets: $40 each

Rugby League The Musical is back on the road for 2019! After the triumphant 2018 season, Australia's hardest working sports satirist - Denis Carnahan - is back, bigger than ever, trying to cope with the mountain of material Rugby League has thrown at him during the “offest” off season in years.

Rugby League The Musical is high energy and hilarious one man show. A brilliant blend of sketch comedy, standup comedy and musical satire, that takes aim at The Greatest Game of All and its many colourful characters and controversies. The 2019 National Tour will feature side splitting new material based on the current rugby league season, along with old favourites that have made his show a cult hit.

Denis came to prominence through his viral State Of Origin song “That’s In Queensland”. Over the years, he’s written dozens of other songs for ABC Grandstand, FBi’s Fire-Up!, Triple M’s Grill Team, Fox Sports, The Matty Johns Show, and The Footy Show.

"It is hilarious - he is an actual genius" Yvonne Sampson - Fox Sports Presenter

"Rugby League The Musical is as ridiculously hilarious as it sounds" Anthony Sharwood - Huffington Post

“You don't need to know about Rugby League. If you've got a sense of humour, you'll love it” Chris Bath - ABC NSW Evenings Host

“Thoroughly enjoyed Denis. . . Very creative and humorous!” Todd Greenberg - NRL CEO

“Insightful. He knows what goes on behind closed doors. Great Show!” Geoff Toovey – former player, coach and Rugby League Legend

See this every year for my birthday in Rozelle, with my wife and her family. This year when I yelled "go the Raiders!", he even did an impromptu rendition of the "Green Machine" song. Did not know he was a Raiders fan until then.

Absolutely love this show, get out and see it even if you don't win the tickets!

Can I nominate Dane Tilse’s career as one giant moment?
I think it could be done with the song from Fame

Raiders, look at me
And tell me what you see
You ain’t seen the best of me yet.
Give me time,
I’ll make you forget Kahler
I got more in me,
But the Knights set me free
I can catch the ball in one hand
Don’t you know who I am?

Remember my name. Dane!
I’m gonna kick a Field Goal, I’m gonna go score a try
Feel free to call me RickyRicky StickStick if you like. I will also accept Super Fui, King Brad, Kid Dynamite, Chocolate-Thunda... or Brad.

Haha just giving him inspiration.
I was looking at the second verse, thinking there’s a joke in their about his height, but I’ll leave that to him to find

Campo equaling Big Mal’s most points in a match, with the chance to break the record towards the end of the game, only to give the kick for goal to someone else.

Croker missed a goal, the day that Ricky kicked a chair. God help me, I was only 19.

Or maybe ‘it’s 2019’.

What about 2016 Home vs Tigers. Rapana scores 4 tries. Sticky tells him not to go for 5 because that’s Mals record, but Rapana yells...

Joey Leilua's flick pass to Jordan Rapana, 4 September 2016

Actually deserves a musical of its own but a song would be a good start

I think there Toto’s big hit “Hold the line” could be adapted to a song about Crokers defensive woes.

“Hold the line.... Koni’s not running this time....”

Could still work. More about Campo handing over the captaincy to Croker.

“It's gonna take a lot to take the captaincy from you

There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do

I hand the reigns down to J. Croker

Gonna take some time to win the games we never could (ooh, ooh)”

Not bad not bad - what about Rocky Burnett’s hit - “Tired of toeing the line”

Croksy why.... Can’t you stay in the line?
Don’t know why you keep rushing out,
Croksy, Croksy you’re making me cry!
Croksy Rick! He’s going find someone new, someone who will be true,
And no more breaking the line!

We'd actually like this to go to a deserving person, with a great suggestion for a event to be remembered in song. So don't mess up this thread too, thanks.

So many great song references.

I loved 'Tired Of Toeing the Line' as an 8 year old.

Also 'Hold The Line' is an awesome song and 'Rosanna' was pretty big for Toto too.

Entries in The Greenhouse Facebook Group so far...

Chris Mason - The classic match is the one played in the snow! Please make up a song about slipping and sliding across the snowy field, and the fans huddled in the grandstand. I believe there were free meat pies - it doesn’t get better than that!

Mark Elliott - When Paul Osborne was called in as a replacement for John Lomax and played the game of his life setting up two tries in the 1994 Grand Final victory against the Doggies!

Michael Sebo - The Steve Jackson try

I'm surprised no one has proposed Dugan and Ferguson climbing on a roof and drinking cruisers. Or Todd Carney on a police chase through the suburbs of Belconnen or some other Carney stunt!
