edwahu wrote: March 25, 2019, 9:04 pm It's fair to say the 2019-2021 figures would've increased.

It just shows how easy it is to cheat the cap really. Just don't go sending anything to your work email.
Yeah that was my read as well.

If this email was from a few years ago, a lot of the contracts would have been re-negotiated and new deals signed, and new players recruited.

If those were the figures were from an email in 2014 (I havent looked in detail) then if they are planning on being over the cap in 2021 (7 years in advance) it really looks bad.

I really feel sorry for the Cronulla fans - this club has treated football with an unusual amount of contempt in nearly every facet. Peptides, banned coaches, salary cap cheating, player attitudes and questionable characters etc, it must be very hard to see your club exposed as grubs like this repeatedly and still follow them.

I know i sound like a broken record here and it is extremely difficult for some people to accept but the only thing they have failed at is covering it up like other clubs successfully do.

Flanagan claiming (via Rothfield) that he had no involvement in the cap Rory's as that was handle by management. His claim fails to address why the doc was in his personal email and forwarded to his Sharks email account.

Once again Flanagan shows to be a person of the lowest integrity.

The other disturbing thing I heard tonight on NRL 360 was that payments in 2016 were made "after" the Grand Final. So now we know the reason why the NRL is using the term "under the salary cap on the day of the Grand Final". The NRL appears to be very non-transparent about what happened at Cronulla... and for some reason, NRL documents which show how non-transparent they are being are "falling off the back of a truck". The document at the base of Rothfield's story on the weekend was an "NRL briefing paper"... and he was also given the speadsheet at the heart of it...

Reading between the lines you have to assume that Cronulla were over the cap and have been permitted to creatively account the overs into future and prior years to avoid stripping them of their maiden premiership.

Or... they were not over by much in 2016. But the NRL has never been transparent in telling us, precisely, how far over they were in each year. They pretend that they can spin their way out of anything. They can't. They need to take decisions on the basis that everything will come out.

They've done the same thing on TPAs. They're pretending they're not a problem, when the difference between the Storm and the team with the lowest TPAs is $1 million!

The reports originally suggested $700,000. But it turns out it was around $1 million. The $700k figure was for the following four years:

2018 $340,000
2019 $240,000
2020 $25,000
2021 $25,000

Between 2013 and 2016 there was another $280,000 for Luke Lewis and Jack Bird according to the report.

They originally self reported $75,000.
Cheating is cheating, but based on this, sounds like it doesn’t come close to the Storm’s rort

Not even remotely close to the Storm.

How many years was the 1 million over GE?

Sent from my SM-G570F using Tapatalk
The figures are given year by year above... 2013 to 2021.

The Storm cheating totalled $3.78 million: $303,000 in 2006, $459,000 in 2007, $957,000 in 2008, $1.021 million in 2009 and $1.04 million in 2010.
I don't see the actual breakdown over the years 2013 to 2016. Was it 280k over each of those years or was 280k the total breach for the 4 years?

It has to be the latter, so the numbers add up.

The question is... why hasn't the NRL revealed this?

Right now I'd struggle to believe any of the official line coming from the NRL.

Plus according to Rothfield, the spreadsheet has notes like "paid agent 30K in cash". He had to know this was outside the cap, and to deny knowledge is ludicrous.

It will continue until sanctions are introduced against players and coaches for cap breaches. Only then will they demonstrate more accountability for their income sources.

In a way you have to pity the Sharks. Peptides, salary cap cheating, coaches evading bans and who knows what else. And now they get drug cheat Paul Gallen as their longest serving player. But then you remember the club has brought it all on themselves.

Replace Paul Gallen with Cameron Smith and Sharks with Storm and the paragraph is actually true as well. Crazy stuff huh?

Perhaps they are saving Flanagan’s office for his return, kinda like when big brother leaves for college in all those US TV shows... Or they put a lick of paint on the peptides storage room hoping for some residual effects Image

Nikora an outstanding talent. Needs to learn how to get more involved in attack. Tends to wait for it to come to him out on the edge. Has to go looking for the ball every so often.
