The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Re: 2019 State of Origin I: Queensland V New South Wales
I tip QLD 1-12. My theory is that NSW is probably the better overall side at the moment. Game 2 is in Perth, Game 3 is in Sydney, the NRL need QLD to win this one to ignite the series a bit. You have Sutton as primary ref whose stats are notoriously home town (particularly at Suncorp). I think QLD win.
I'm a Blues man, however my biggest hope is Papa, Wighton and Cotric come through the game well and back up Friday. The result in this origin match really is secondary to that result.

Hahaha Queensland is only going to win because of a bunch of conspiracy garbage involving the NRL and the refs?Woodgers wrote:I tip QLD 1-12. I have my theories on why we don't see many whitewash series, as do many others. You seem to think this is a comment about QLD specifically, it isn't.The Rickman wrote: ↑June 5, 2019, 1:45 pmHahaha Queensland is only going to win because of a bunch of conspiracy garbage involving the NRL and the refs?Woodgers wrote:I tip QLD 1-12. So Sutton is the most strategic ref appointment since Barry Gomersall??
Re: 2019 State of Origin I: Queensland V New South Wales
Queenslanders didn't deserve the team they had over the last 10+ years, but they will deserve the spankings they receive in this 2019 series.

It's a bit "meh" on some levels. I'm pumped to see Jack and Nic play though.

How much game time are we tipping Jack to get? I hope he gets a decent run but fear he might just get 10-15mins in the back half. Hope I’m wrong!
Re: 2019 State of Origin I: Queensland V New South Wales
I always marveled at the killer instinct of those champion QLD players. That potent mix of ability and belief was at the core of one of the best teams ever. NSW would always seem so close, yet the reality was they were never really in the same league.
Didn't the smug QLD fans know it too.

No doubt there is a sense that the teams have evened up again after so long (even if those thoughts are misplaced IMO).

Squeezing ratings dollars out of the night - most tune in at about 7:00 and will stay fixed to the chanel, no matter, what until the game starts.
Re: 2019 State of Origin I: Queensland V New South Wales
To give the Channel 9 commentators time to talk about the game! Because there hasn’t been enough time all week!

NSW take the field to a chorus of jeers at Lang Park. NSW line up on the sideline... the Maroons are taking their time. Now the Queensland Maroons, led by Daly Cherry Evans for the first time, and it is a wave of noise and emotion to greet them.
