Like I said, no way that's going to be the starting 17.

Surely Simonsson is being rewarded for a solid performance last week, by being named in the top 17... I can't see him lining up in the top 17 come game day.

Jordan Rapana returns for Canberra Raiders' crucial Sydney Roosters clash
Like magic, Jordan Rapana's done it again. The Canberra Raiders' star winger is back ahead of schedule, this time for their crucial magic round clash against the Sydney Roosters.
Hudson Young has been named in the second row to replace England international John Bateman (eye socket), while Michael Oldfield has kept his spot in the centres to cover for Leilua.

Good to see Rapa back.
I'm a little concerned about BJs neck problems, hope he recovers quickly.
Of course we are going to miss JBatemans output but I'm also happy for Hudson Young this week.
And there's no way we are carrying Old Bailey on the bench..

I think we will keep Bailey on the bench if Rapana is fit, as opposed to the majority. And if he does, I like the thinking.

Josh Papalii preached Canberra Raiders five-eighth Jack Wighton's NSW Blues Origin credentials
He hates the prospect of playing against him, but Queensland star Josh Papalii says his Canberra Raiders teammate Jack Wighton is ready to play State of Origin.
"If I was the selectors I would definitely be looking at Jack," he said. "He's one of those excitement [machines]. He's tough, he's a good defender, obviously a good attacker, he's good under the high ball.

Is there something official on BJ's neck and the expected recovery? Indefinite seems a worry for something he is supposed to have done while he was asleep.

Not sure, I thought the story was he woke up game day sore.
Re: 2019 Rd 9 V Roosters: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
That Simonsson on the bench thing must be a bit of a furphy surely. He looks only capable of playing wing/fullback and there’s no one in the backline capable of shifting into the pack either.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

When we have players carrying injury in our backline I think it makes sense to have a reserve back. Our pack all play long minutes. The 4th forward usually gets little game time. Sure it's a risk but better than trying to have an outpaced forward substituting into the backs imo.
Re: 2019 Rd 9 V Roosters: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
#smokescreen. Simonsson is clearly not playing off the bench. Expecting Murchie or Guler to come in

Rings a bell.. I’m guessing if Simmonsen does start from the bench he will only be used if there’s injury. Guys like Horsburgh could rack up bigger minutes-TW- wrote:Didn't he pick Oldfield there for his "debut" and then not play him?Sid wrote:when's the last time Ricky Stuart carried an outside back on the bench?

Not to be captain obvious or anything........ Buy someone's dropping out if that 17. The only real question is who's comming in?

Re: 2019 Rd 9 V Roosters: Teams and Previews
That's my thinking. Especially as the loss of a single winger in Rapana threw us into disarray vs Manly with them able to exploit it for 2 easy edge tries without even DCE on the field.RedRaider wrote: ↑May 7, 2019, 4:18 pmCNK didn't look 100% on the weekend and Rapa is back possibly a little early from the rib injury. In a forward pinch Cotric would go ok in 2nd row, all our been forwards are versatile. But honestly that winger out wrecked us vs Manly, weird as it sounds.
Re: 2019 Rd 9 V Roosters: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
I feel like this game could either go 38-12 to the Roosters or 18-16 to us.

If one of our outside backs needs ‘cover’ on the bench they shouldn’t be playing

Re: 2019 Rd 9 V Roosters: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
I can. This is yet another reason why John Bateman is so valuable to the team. Have Bateman in the side and we can play 4 forwards on the bench because he is the back up outside back. Simonsson doesn’t play this week and we get an injury in the backs, we are having to play Whitehead in the centres.
Havilli is also very valuable because our bench hooker is a really important middle forward.

I kind of think the smoke being blown up the **** of Latrell and the roosters, coupled with their big win last week is a good thing for us. We will be tough underdogs- I recon Mitchell will have a very quiet game. Here’s hoping anyways

Guys, you shouldn’t play an outside back on your bench in case you get an injury, that’s just bad team management all round
You only need them maybe 1 in 10 games, the other 9 games you have a completely useless slot on your bench

Re: 2019 Rd 9 V Roosters: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
It's not bad policy necessarily to have a quick outside back on the bench. This bloke has just come from 7's and maybe Rick also thinks he has something as a dummy half runner vs tired defences or has shown so much in Mounties he needs a go.
I disagree. Give we often play bench forward for 10 mins, the impact on a game of a spare back or impact player might be significant. We all call Ricky pigheaded and used to hate his bench use. Trust him this year.

For mine he’s not going to play the 17 like that so the whole conversation is a mute point anyways

I don't reckon there are any smokescreens here... I expect us to be 1-17 this weekend barring injury for a few reasons that others have mentioned.

Im not interested in covering for outside backs, specifically.
This squad, in particular, is built well to withstand injuries there... we can easily plug in Whitehead who's performed admirably at 5/8th, and slot Wighton in ANYWHERE. Havilii can play hooker, with Hodgson at halfback, the coverage in the forwards is second to none, Papa and Sia can both play edge or middle, the young guys can take more minutes.
If Stuart decides to go with him so be it, but it's insane to disadvantage yourself for 90% of the time in order to give yourself better options is an outside back goes down
Re: 2019 Rd 9 V Roosters: Teams and Previews *Teams p1*
Latrell deserves the smoke. Legit superstar. We're going to have our hands full with him. We were concerned about Waqa Blake... Latrell is at least two times the player he is.Raider_Boy wrote: ↑May 7, 2019, 8:39 pm I kind of think the smoke being blown up the **** of Latrell and the roosters, coupled with their big win last week is a good thing for us. That BJ story feels fishy to me. We've all woken up with a sore neck. You go to the physio, get a massage, get some acupuncture, whatever. Plus these guys have access to all of the above and more at their fingertips, no expense spared.
How does it keep an elite athlete out of two straight games and then carry an 'indefinite' tag moving forward? What's going on here?
