John Bateman out six to eight weeks with fractured eye socket
CONFIRMED: Canberra Raiders lose John Bateman to fractured eye socket
John Bateman has a small fracture of his eye socket, but it is unclear if he will require surgery or how long he could be out (4-10 weeks, hopefully the lower end of the scale) until he meets with the doctor on Monday.
"He's one of those people you want to play with, he's a really good leader and it will be a big loss for us, but on the flip side of it we've got players that can fill in the role," Ryan Sutton said.

Re: John Bateman out with fractured eye socket
Nick Cotric on Tripple M footy today said it was his cheekbone? Whats worse eye socket or cheekbone?
Re: John Bateman out with fractured eye socket
Guess it depends how bad the injury is... eye socket seems to be better at the lower end.Kryptonite wrote:Nick Cotric on Tripple M footy today said it was his cheekbone? Whats worse eye socket or cheekbone?

Re: John Bateman out with fractured eye socket
Silver lining he’ll be fresh and hungry for the run home, hoping it’s a quick recovery though

The key will be whether he needs surgery. If he does, it's longer, if not, shorter.

Re: John Bateman out with fractured eye socket
Yep. Usually if it’s a depressed fracture, they need to operate. Other kinds, maybe not.
I didn’t see a dent. But I’m not a doctor. For some reason I really think he’d go good in one of those phantom of the opera Premier League style masks.

Re: John Bateman out with fractured eye socket
I'll bet what ever the standard recovery time is, he'll come in under it.
It's kind of stating the obvious but he strikes as the the sort of hard **** that always comes back early, even when he shouldnt

Re: John Bateman out with fractured eye socket
Saw NRL physio tweeting this evening that it was a minor fracture so should be on the lower end of the scale in terms of recovery time. More like 4-6 weeks instead of 10, even with surgery.

Didn't Sezer do the same thing against the Panthers in round 1 in 2016? When the trainer had to cut his eye or something because it was so swollen? How long was he out for?

5 - 6 weeks isn’t the end of the world and it will give him time to freshen up. Maybe he can even take a quick holiday down to Tasmania to work on his sun tan!
Re: John Bateman out with fractured eye socket
if the line is set at 5.5 weeks on his return from this injury, im taking the unders.

Re: John Bateman out with fractured eye socket
Hmm to use a cliche he's the kind of player who will stick his head where others wouldn't even put a foot so he'll need that bone to be nice and strong. I'm happy for the medico's to boss him around please.
Also- if we wasn't on our team he's the kind of player who you'd just really love to whack in the chops for being such a cheeky aunt so there's that too...

Re: John Bateman out with fractured eye socket
We have a bye in 8 rounds time, so worst case 7 games out. Hopefully he is back earlier like all our injuries seem to be though.

I'd sooner have him out for this period early in the season than this to happen in August.

NRL Pysio (or whatever his name is), said healing time was faster with an operation, so here's hoping

Good stuff. Really hope the club allows him to do this as much as possible when circumstances allow it.
It will allow him to really appreciate this club and also help stave off any threat of homesickness.
