The Raiders produced a very gutsy win against the Panthers in Round 8. Now they head to Brisbane for a meeting with the Sydney Roosters at Lang Park in "Magic Round". Injuries are starting to impact the Raiders, with John Bateman suffering a suspected fractured eye socket against the Panthers. Joey Leilua was a late withdrawal (neck) in Round 8, while Jordan Rapana and Joe Tapine are also sidelined long term. So who should line up for the Green Machine? Tell us your team here and see how you go in comparison to the official squad when announced. We will include the official line ups in the first post of this thread as soon as they're available.

I'll be missing this one, will be on a plane to the US.

The 4th bench spot probably has to go to Murchie. He’s in the squad as a second rower so with 2 injured needs to be used there rather than any of the now genuine middle forwards. Not picking him on the bench means Young is being told he has to play 80.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Interesting to note Ricky answering in the presser quite forcefully that there would be no more forward rotation now?

Looked almost like it had been someone else’s idea, and he’d been very upset with the bench last week and he was overruling now.

Perhaps I’m reading too much into it. I think it would be a shame though, thought the rotation was a really good strategy for keeping them fresh. Still a long way to go.

Sia and Papalii are still perfectly capable of filling in as second rowers.

I doubt Soliola is these days tbh. I also don’t think the middle third (also without one of Tapine/Bateman who’d normally be there) is capable of covering their shifts out wide. Especially against SST, JWH and Liu who’ve pretty much been the best in the league imo.

Sia still played well there the last two years when most had already decided he wasn't capable of it, I'd be confident he can manage it again.

I'd agree we would lose out in the middle but Ricky's rotation policy has been focussed on building up that area, so it will be a good test for the younger middles.

I would be aiming for the least disruption possible. We want the same middle rotations that have been winning us games to give us the best chance against the benchmark. Sia leads that energy at the first interchange, I wouldn’t want to mess with that.

Agree with Whitehead on the right so the best option for me is Murchie on the left as he’s the next best 2nd row option with familiarity of edge defence. We just need him to do a defensive job on Crichton, we don’t need a whale of a game from him.

I’d go Oldfield on the right wing. Nothing against BS but I think we’ll need the size and height against Mitchell and Tupou (particularly for the cross kicks).

I’ve watched a fair bit of the Roosters lately and they are definitely the benchmark but they’re not outside our capabilities. In fairness they should have been beaten on Anzac Day and even though Tigers was a blowout, the Roosters didn’t get away from them until about 60 minutes and much of the play before that to get points was Latrell (or Keary) individual brilliance rather than them turning it on. I think they’re currently vulnerable if we turn up hungry. I guess what I’m saying in a roundabout way is they’re the best side in the comp but the past fortnight haven’t been near their peak performance so we’re a reasonable shot on Sunday.
We continue to **** about with blokes that are part of some fraternity. It's infuriating.

Watching the Roosters last night I couldn't believe how compressed their defensive line was and the Tigers didn't even try to hit the edges at all. At times there was literally 20 metres of open space outside Manu and Tupou. Sure they are probably the best at shuffling as a unit but still it doesn't make sense to bash up through the middle in that situation.

Yeah the only way we will win this is cause the Roosters are due for a loss soon. Kinda like the Storm on Friday they were just off.

One of my mates was at the game and spoke to Tapine and said he was an outside chance. Would be good timing with Bateman out.

He wasn't sensational. But yes he can't fulfill his role any better. He's improved a lot and is playing well but there's still a gap between what he can bring and other starting packs when we go up against the top sides.
It leads to the same kind of worry I had against Melbourne where we are down 12-0 before our 2nd best prop came on. We're not going to win or lose the game based solely on where Lui lines up but I'd like us to be able to go in all guns blazing against the top sides.
No way to juggle that with all the injuries.

I agreed with the approach from the point of view of keeping the young fellas fresh.

However it’s apparent that our formations suffer when we chop/change too much. Pick and stick, Rick.

Soliola spent the pre-season putting on a bit of size to be a permanent middle. I don't think we'll push him out. He's more likely than Papalii given his better lateral movement. Papalii is no chance anymore. He's our forward leader.

I agree with those who say 'replace like for like'. A backrow forward is out and so we use a backrow forward as a replacement. Murchie for me. It will be interesting to see how the side does back up. The good news is that, like the Roosters, we get an 8 day turn around. While they are missing their hooker, we are missing 3 Internationals, two backrowers and a winger.

Hopefully BJ will be ready to go next Sunday.

We start Huddo because he’s looked completely at home in FG and bring in Murchison. You slot into the role of the person ahead of you.

Lui is playing very well. Gets our sets off to a good start and has the fastest play the ball in the team. Effort like that makes it easiest and more yards for the next bloke and are exactly what you need from your role players like Lui to let the rest shine.

Yep.

Sia isn't a middle anymore- he's looked a new man since being allowed to play middle exclusively.

Young has been blooded and deserves a crack at the spot vs a good side, if we have to hide him he wouldn't/shouldn't be there.

Murchie and or Havillii can spell him for 10-15 minutes per half.

Rapa told me he's back this week, straight from the man himself at Wagga... #GHexclusive
