Got out for my first long run on Saturday, set out wanting to do 30km and ended up doing 31 over 2hrs 16mins, could have possibly done a couple more but had some time restraints, felt reasonably ok considering it is my longest run so fairly happy with that although realistically I still didn’t get to the point where most runners talk abou “hitting the wall”
now to work on adding another 11km :hmmm.
Have a 15km event on this coming Sunday so might plan to do that then run home (another 18 or 19km)

Today I ran 5km in under 30min for the first time in about six to eight months

For anyone who hasn’t tried the C25K app yet and wants to get into running, I highly recommend it. This is the third time it’s got me back where I want to be

Next week I’m going to start tackling their 10km version

Well done Nick

Kiwi, that is bloody quick. I don't know if you have used the mcmillan running calculator before, but it has you doing a marathon in just over 3 hours.

Yea have used that in the past although not for a while now, I suppose those figures are promising that I might be able to do it in good time but at this stage they are still just computer generated "predictions" Anyway I'll be happy just to complete a full but if I can get anywhere near those times or even around 3hr20 i'll be absolutely stoked

So I got the all clear last week for moderate indoor exercise. So just slowly building up on the cycle trainer in the garage. It's unbelievable how quickly you lose fitness.

It's going to be brutal. I stopped running in March last year and just did maybe a bike ride each week and then completely inactive from February this year. Hopefully in about a month 60 minute sessions on the bike will be the norm.

Cheers Coastal. Best thing was I had a few too many drinks the night before at the pub and almost didn't even go when I woke up in the morning, so you'd have to think there's at leats half a minute's upside there!

This week I'm not going to drink the night before.

How’d the park run without beers go nickman? Hopefully you had a bit more of a spring in your step?

I managed to push through a nice long run today, went out aiming to do 35km but ended up Doing 40km over 3hrs 1min. Hopefully I’m on track to get my first full marathon under my belt in early June(Christchurch)
Have also booked a trip to the Gold Coast where I’m just gonna do the half marathon, that way I can have a relaxing time with the family without having to hold back to much with the thought of another full coming up. Then flying to
Sydney on the Tuesday and going to Origin 3 with a couple of school mates that now live in Sydney

Can you sustain your long runs - I think from memory you want your long long runs about 4 - 6 weeks out from the race then ease off. But who am I to give advice, you're a much better runner than me.

Nickman, hope you've set yourself another target. I reckon you could go under 25 minutes in another 1 - 3 months depending on the work you put in.

Hey Kiwi, it went well! After setting a new PB the week before, I knocked another minute off my time! Down to about 28.11, after being at 32 just a month earlier before I went to Africa

Cyclists, too, when they come back with weird blood diseases.
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

Yep doing the big one. Aiming at under 12 hours this year. Lots of question marks though, water is still warm up there so may be a non wetsuit swim which will slow things down, and the weather is questionable as well.
Just want to give it a good effort and see what happens.

Under 12 would be fantastic. A few years back that would likely get you a ticket to Kona but the improvement in amateurs in the past decade is incredible. Still a great time. I hope the race goes to plan for you. I'm assuming it's Sunday week? If so I'll try and track you, assuming of course there is a tracker.

There are some exceptionally fast age groupers around mate - and a lot of them. Last year in the 35-39 male age group alone 73 athletes went under 12. The winner of that age group did a 9.00.

There is a mobile tracking app, I’m 593.

Thanks EJ, shaking off a little head cold I picked up this week in taper, but the body is feeling amazing and ready to roll. 60% chance of rain, max of 20° and 35km winds - this could get rough :doubt:

Holy crap that was hard.

30-35k headwind last lap of the Bike meant times mid pack were about 20 minutes down on expected.

That head cold kicked in hard at about 25k of the marathon and I blew apart, pretty sure I’ve given myself a chest infection - rooted.

Very very happy to go sub 12 on a day like that.

And I think that will be my last Full Ironman until the kids are older- back to halves for me. They are just so freaking brutal.
