It's not some NRL conspiracy. It goes back to GE's favourite topic - unconscious bias. The typical thought is - "Melbourne control the speed of the ruck well" - which means less likely to blow penalties against them. RE: the Bromwich dropped ball - there is no doubt in my mind that was a simple dropped ball. He had no right to play the ball quickly as he had surrendered in the tackle.

I will say though that Cam Smith is just incredible. I have never seen a player consistently pick the right play at the right time. Honestly, it feels like he gets it right 90% of the time. When you have someone like that touching the ball as many times as he does, you will always be competitive. Today he set up tries, forced repeat sets. I really think to beat Melbourne you need to make him make 50 or 60+ tackles.

I love how blair does that ridiculous feigning of ignorance after every grubby act too. Knees to the head, better get up hands in the air looking in a different direction. They'll never suspect a thing.

On the flip side did make 47 tackles. But yeah, how can you be out there that long and only run the ball once? He must have been deliberately avoiding it.

Acres of empty seats at the Olympic Stadium. There is surely less than 5,000 people there.

Cowboys kick off, Bulldogs with the ball first set.

50th min TRY BULLDOGS to Corey Harawira-Naera. This match really is lacking something... a crowd, atmosphere, high quality play for starters. These are two really poor teams. Rhyse Martin converts.

Out of the hands forward, clearly IMO. The commentators swear blind it goes back... but I also have eyes! Correct call to deny it. And it is about time the refs started to clamp down on all the forward passes. It's become ridiculous... and it just encourages boring play, with players standing so flat and running endless block plays.

3rd min TRY RABBITOHS to Kyle Turner, he goes right over the top of Cleary to score. It is off the back of a penalty to the Rabbitohs... and they built a lot of momentum. Reynolds misses the conversion, the ball hits the post.

I don't know if the atmosphere is affecting my opinion... as it is a great crowd... but the quality of footy is a massive step up in this game.

Why does the NRL site always show the incorrect minute? It was definitely the 21st minute for the goal... but the NRL site shows 20'.

23rd min TRY RABBITOHS to Corey Allan in the corner. The Rabbitohs kick comes back to them, and they shift right quickly. The last pass looked very suspect. Reynolds cannot convert from the sideline.
