That's OK for finals, but in the regular season, the broadcasting schedules won't allow for it.

I was thinking about It's A Knockout not that long ago.
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

I’m doing Billy J Smith impressions of “Oh he’s fallen over”.

But I’m sure young males will remember the dark haired cheerleader who used to stand behind his right shoulder. It’s a Knockers as we used to sing to the theme song.

That's a sad way for it to end for a great player. He will get a media gig pretty quickly I would imagine.

South's also have the money to sign whoever they want now.

Yep sad way to go out. Got too heavy unfortunately. I can understand not being able to train properly if you've got ongoing injuries, but that's no excuse for mismanaging your diet. Paid a huge amount of money to be a professional, you need to act like one. And he obviously doesn't want to anymore, so the timing is right to call it quits.

NRL 360 a Inglis love story.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Well you couldn't have the Broncos members disadvantaged by it being a donkeys home game! I mean they've paid their membership and need to be able to sit in their seat. At least they won't have their schedule thrown into chaos by not being on Friday night this week!

Not sure why Brisbane was selected for the magic round either. They get plenty of rugby league every year! Could have easily taken this to Adelaide or Perth where they are lucky to see one NRL game a season. It will be very interesting to see what the attendance is across the weekend as there has to be a big risk that outside of Friday night the attendance will be low.

ARLC rules out finals Wildcard Weekend

The Australian Rugby League Commission has axed any plans for a possible Wildcard Weekend, with no immediate changes to be made to the structure of the Telstra Premiership finals series.

Read more: https://www.nrl.com/news/2019/05/29/arl ... d-weekend/

Australian Rugby League Commission meeting

The Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) held its monthly meeting on Wednesday, with regular agenda items including updates across football, integrity, and the future footprint of the game.

Significant outcomes from the Commission meeting included confirmation of the NRL Grand Final Day match schedule, a summary of the NRL's inaugural Magic Round in Brisbane, and a determination on the NRL's recent discussion of a 'Wildcard Weekend' as part of future Finals Series.

Australian Rugby League Commission Chairman, Peter Beattie confirmed the Commission had ratified a decision for the NRL Holden Women's Premiership Grand Final to be played immediately prior to the NRL Telstra Men's Premiership Grand Final.

"The InTrust Super State Championship Grand Final will kick off Grand Final day and I'm delighted that fans will be able to arrive early and take in three fantastic games of rugby league on Grand Final day at ANZ Stadium," Mr Beattie said.

In relation to NRL Magic Round Brisbane, the Commission heard that:

TV audience increased by 2%, compared to the 2018 season round average.

Crowds reached in excess of 135,000 over the four days of competition, with an average crowd of 33,000 per day – an increase of 12.5% on last year's average crowd for the same round.

Interstate visitation was in excess of 26,000, or 20% of the fans, providing a significant return for the
Queensland economy.

Total audience across the NRL's digital network was over 3 million, the second highest engagement level this season and almost 10% higher than the season average.

25 schools and junior rugby league clubs were visited by NRL players and NRL Game Development Officers, conducting coaching and skills clinics and engaging with in excess of 10,000 young fans.

Two coaching and refereeing education events were delivered by current NRL club coaching staff, with in excess of 100 junior rugby league coaches attending.

15 sponsors built fan engagement experiences in and around the Suncorp Stadium precinct.

"Magic Round was a fantastic experience for our fans, our players, our broadcasters and our sponsors," Mr Beattie said.

"Suncorp Stadium and Brisbane was the perfect backdrop to launch this multi-day event, which is another example of our game looking to expand our boundaries and increase our entertainment brand.

"I thank everyone who made Magic Round Brisbane possible, particularly the Queensland Government (through Tourism and Events Queensland) and Brisbane City Council (through Brisbane Marketing) who backed us from the start."

The Commission also resolved that there would be no immediate change to the Finals Series by the introduction of a Wildcard Weekend.

"There are two things that this Commission is driven by, and that is consultation and innovation," Mr Beattie said.

"We sought input from a range of stakeholders on the concept of a Wildcard Weekend and whilst it is fair to say that there was strong support in some quarters, on balance, the Commission has determined that the Finals Series will remain as is for the time being.

"We will always look for ways to improve and grow our game, and that includes looking at all options across our regular season and Finals Series, to engage with wider audiences, boost our broadcast figures and promote our commercial partners."

The Commission also congratulated Professor Megan Davis for leading the charge for the Game to join 13 other leading Australian organisations today in pledging support for the Uluru Statement.

"This is a statement dear to my heart and to the hearts of many Indigenous communities across Australia," Professor Davis said.

"I'm proud to be part of a Commission and a Game that is united and strong in voice in supporting all communities and particularly First Nations peoples in their quest for a greater voice across their land."

Why not a round where every coach puts his keys in a bowl then the captain of each team chooses a set.
That coach then coaches that team for that round.

I’m still waiting for Multi Ball Round to become a thing.
* Throw 5 footballs on the field, 1 ref per ball, and game on.
* Ball comes off once a try is scored with it.
* Bonus point awarded to whichever team has scored the most once all balls are off the field.

Rinse and repeat for 80 mins. It’ll be made better when the game starts with a celebrity screaming “Multi ball!” at the beginning of each round before launching the balls out of a cannon

No they won’t. The stadium is not large enough for a start. I’ve never advocated that it be held in Canberra. I don’t care it won’t be held in Canberra. I’ve simply pointed out it won’t be held in Canberra in response to some Canberra Times articles suggesting it might.

Queensland has a contract to stage it next year and an option on it for the following two years. The NRL is being paid $2 million a year for the privilege. I suspect the concept will be finished with by the fourth year, as destination fatigue will have killed it.

What is needed for this sort of event is a novel destination like Adelaide or Perth by year three at the latest. Even if the NRL might eventually consider cities the size of Canberra... after the time they’re finished with Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Singapore, Hong Kong, Los Angeles and Las Vegas (all destinations a wildly optimistic NRL has variously fed to the media) the ACT government would never pay the $2 million to “attract” the event.

So I agree they’ll never hold that event in Canberra. I don’t care it won’t be. And given the prices being charged, the only game I’m going to is the Raiders game in any case. So it makes absolutely no difference to me.
