Re: 2019 Mounties
He has a knee injury and it is in a brace. He was reportedly on the sideline until the end of the game. Seemed serious when he went off... but if it is a medial then he might not miss that long. The radio call wasn't sure if it was a medial issue... or something more serious.

Last week: The Canberra Raiders NSW Cup affiliate Mounties are placed third on the ladder, after demolishing the Newcastle Knights, 36-12, at Aubrey Keech Reserve in Round 3. Winger Bailey Simonsson scored a hat trick for the men in yellow and black, while hooker Tom Starling posted a double. Mounties scored eight tries, and if Brendan O'Hagan had brought his kicking boots, their scoring total would have threatened the 50 point mark.
Simonsonn (three tries, 16 runs for 203 metres gained, 61 post contact metres, two line breaks, one try assist, three tackle breaks, one offload) and Reubenn Rennie (one try, 14 runs for 197 metres, 65 post contact metres, one line break assist, one try assist, five tackle breaks, two offloads) were amongst the best in the backs. Ata Hingano controlled things in the halves.
In the forwards, there were impressive performances from Starling (two tries, 15 runs for 113 metres, 98 dummy half metres, 20 post contact metres, one line break, three tackle breaks, 34 tackles), Royce Hunt (13 runs for 174 metres, 80 post contact metres, four tackle breaks, two offloads), JJ Collins (12 runs for 147 metres, 75 post contact metres, one tackle break, 10 tackles) and Luke Bateman (one try, 14 runs for 133 metres, 56 post contact metres, one line break, five tackle breaks, 18 tackles).
Tom Starling (34), Reuben Porter (25) and Sebastian Kris (20) topped the tackle count for Mounties. Simonsson (203), Rennie (197) and Hunt (174) topped the metres gained.
This week: Mounties now face the fourth placed Western Suburbs Magpies at Aubrey Keech Reserve in Round 4.
The Magpies suffered a narrow 26-24 defeat at the hands of the Canterbury Bulldogs at Campbelltown Stadium in Round 3. The Magpies led by 16 points in the second half, but the Bulldogs scored the final three tries to steal the game. The Magpies still led with less than a minute left on the clock, but a Jesse Marshke try with 10 seconds remaining levelled the scores, 24-24. He won the match by converting his own try. Hooker Braden Robson, second rower Robbie Rochow, and prop Matt Eisenhuth were the strongest for the Magpies.
The Magpies have a 2-1 record so far this season, defeating the Sea Eagles and the Warriors in the opening two rounds of 2019. Mounties have yet to taste defeat, posting two good wins - and drawing 28-28 with the Dragons in Round 1. The Mounties and Magpies are the top two attacking teams so far in 2019, averaging 32 points scored per match. The Magpies and Panthers have the best defensive record in the competition (conceding 13 points per match). Mounties have conceded an average 19 points per match.
Form: Mounties: WLDWW
Magpies: LLWWL
Head to head: Mounties have won 9 of the 11 games played between the clubs since 1998. Mounties won 28-8 in their first encounter with the Magpies in 2018, but the Magpies turned the tables in the second match, winning 31-30.
Our tip: Mounties at home in a close contest.

Hope he drags some confidence out of his recent performances.
Can't be worse at fullback than he was in the trial.

Re: 2019 Mounties
Good to see basically everyone who might get a look at FG at some stage (form or injury etc) in form.
If Simonsen is a star we have a sudden embarrassment of back 3 riches. Nice luxury as we see whether The Clock is the full package or if Joey or Cotric get a look at origin.
How many games has Hingano played this year? Thought we was out longer. We might finally get to see if he can play.

Re: 2019 Mounties
Simonsson has a clean pair of hands. No wonder they had him at fullback for the trials. Great to see his form is up. If he keeps this up I can't see him staying. Could chase an opportunity at any of the bottom 3 or 4 sides.

Last week: The Canberra Raiders NSW Cup affiliate Mounties now stand alone atop the competition ladder, after handing out a football lesson to Wests, defeating the Magpies 52-6, at Aubrey Keech Reserve. A hat trick wasn't good enough for winger Bailey Simonsson this week. He scored four tries for the men in yellow and black, while Andre Niko posted a double and booted eight goals from nine attempts. Mounties scored nine tries for the second week in a row.
The backs had a party. Simonsonn (four tries, 16 runs for 190 metres gained, 40 post contact metres, three line breaks, one line break assist, one try assist, four tackle breaks, one offload), Andrew Niko (two tries, eight goals, eight runs for 85 metres, two line breaks, one line break assist, one try assist, one tackle break) and Tony Satini (one try, 12 runs for 179 metres, 41 post contact metres, one line breaks, one line break assist, two try assists, four tackle breaks, one offload) were amongst the best. Ata Hingano again controlled things in the halves (two try assists, one line break assist), while Brendan O'Hagan scored a spectacular try.
In the forwards, hooker Tom Starling impressed (six dummy half runs for 45 metres, one line break assist, one try assist, two tackle breaks, 27 tackles) - as did Luke Bateman (13 runs for 127 metres, 47 post contact metres, two tackle breaks, 33 tackles, 94.3 per cent tackle efficiency).
Bateman (33), Emre Guler (30) and Starling (27) topped the tackle count for Mounties. Simonsson (190), Satini (197) and Reubenn Rennie (154) topped the metres gained.
This week: Mounties now face the fifth placed Wentworthville Magpies, the feeder team for the Parramatta Eels, at Canberra Stadium in Round 5. The match is part of a triple header on Sunday in the national capital, with this game and Jersey Flegg the curtain raisers for the Raiders NRL clash with the Eels.
The Magpies - boasting the likes of Bevan French, Josh Hoffman, George Jennings and former Raiders hooker Matt McIlwrick - had a big 42-10 home win over the Newtown Jets at Ringrose Park in Round 4. The Magpies led 12-0 at half time, but piled on five tries in the second half. Lock Ray Stone posted a double, while also topping the tackle count for the Magpies (35). French was also very strong at five eighth, producing two tries, three try assists, 91 running metres and 221 kicking metres.
The Magpies have a 2 and 2 record so far this season. They defeated the Bulldogs narrowly in Round 2 (24-22) and lost by just a point to the North Sydney Bears in Round 3 (21-20). Mounties have yet to taste defeat, posting three good wins - and drawing 28-28 with the Dragons in Round 1. Mounties are now clearly the top attacking team in the competition, averaging 37 points per match (Magpies 24.5). Mounties have conceded an average 15.5 points per match, and only the Bears have a better defensive record (12.5 points conceded per match). The Magpies have conceded an average 19 points per game.
Team changes: Mounties have named an unchanged line up, though Corey Horsburgh will be a late inclusion after not being named in the Raiders squad. For Wentworthville, Bevan French has been named in the Eels' NRL extended squad. As a result, Josh Bergamin is named at fullback for the Magpies. Brad Keighran starts at five-eighth with Haimona Hiroti on the interchange bench.
Form: Mounties: LDWWW
Magpies: LLWLW
Head to head: Mounties have won 6 of the 10 games played between the clubs. Mounties won 34-24 in their first encounter with the Magpies in 2018, but the Magpies turned the tables in the second match, winning 22-16.
Our tip: This is a danger match, given the strike of some of the Magpies players, but we will go with Mounties at "home".

Re: 2019 Mounties
I'd like to have a bit more of a look at his defence. Coming out of rugby 7s he was always going to be nice to watch with the ball in his hands.
Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

Re: 2019 Mounties
Yeah I'm sure there's still work to be done. The main thing you'd need to watch is decision making. He doesn't seem to have any issues putting his body into contact. From the small sample size we've got he seems pretty coachable so if there are issues I'd expect improvement.
But given some of the options those bottom 4 clubs have you'd like your chances of having a player like him come to the club for a low wage but a big opportunity. Hope he stays.
Re: 2019 Mounties
I realise it is Reserve Grade but those highlights from Simonsson are very impressive. I knew he would be a good runner, but had no idea he had such silky ball playing skills. He and Oldfield really do provide some decent depth.
Re: 2019 Mounties
Agree, that was a pretty amazing highlight reel. He even got to use his Union skills with that try when he was getting dragged out.
I think the statisticians were a bit harsh though, they only gave him 1 try assist. I would've given him 3 at least, plus a couple where he would of got except he backed up and scored himself (guess thats a weakness of the stat).

He's got another 3-4 years of being a good backup left. On his way to the history books.

I hope they rest Horsburgh but I want Sezer to play. He needs to play his way back into the side and that should start this afternoon.

Re: 2019 Mounties
On what basis does sezer sit out. His form doesn't warrant first grade selection so he is granted the week off. How does that make any sense. Think of the wonders playing reggies for papa last year. Even Austin came back an improved player for a few weeks. This is a really poor decision from Stuart in my opinion. Anywho, good luck to the boys today
