Soliola and Papalii needed to start the match, in hindsight. It was all over by the 20-30 minute mark. Dunamis Lui offered little, to be blunt. Sorry to say it, he’s a nice guy, but we need a lot more from a starting prop.
Re: 2019 Rd 3 V Knights: Teams and Previews
We need to get rid of Tapine, if he's not injured he's suspended. It's his 4th season for the club and he still can't stay on the field for more than a few games at a time.

2019 Rd 3 V Knights: Teams and Previews
To think we had TPJ knocking at our door last year and we said no. If we had of said good bye to Sezar and Lui, we would probably have been able to fit him in for this year and then upped it significantly for 2020.greeneyed wrote:Soliola and Papalii needed to start the match, in hindsight. If we had TPJ, Sia and Papa on rotation, it would have really tightened our middle up.

I like it Dusty. One backrower injured to be replaced by another. Although it would not surprise me to see the Papa/Lui props combo start with Sia in the backrow to start. HorsePower and Havili are providing the energy from the bench. I wonder when Sutton is going to get more than a late game cameo.Dusty wrote: ↑March 23, 2019, 6:59 am If Tapine is out I’d go with:

I ummed and ahhed over that choice but Soliola has spent a lot of preseason getting ready for that middle and I don't know whether he'd be a step slower and most importantly I want him leading that middle in defence. Bateman looks quite quick. The Rickman wrote: ↑March 23, 2019, 1:36 amThere’s no WAY I’d be moving Bateman out of the middle! I'd never move paps to an edge. That ship sailed before this season.
If Soliola is the one to shift I think Murchie comes into the side to rotate them at some point with Sia eventually ending up in the middle.

This is what bugs me the most Peej. Chrichton had a problem with his finger and just lopped it off without a second thought. If Tapine was really commited we'd be seeing the same. Reeks of a soft club culture really.

Sia also put on size in the off season to suit playing middle and he's another year older and was clear his edge days were past even last year. Just give Murchie a go.

After todays Mounties game I think Bateman has probably earned himself a spot on the bench given his experience.
I think Hudson-Young looked very good so there is a chance he nabs a bench spot.

Yeah, lets get rid of our international second rower. Great thinking super coach.

Re: 2019 Rd 3 V Knights: Teams and Previews
He missed 1/3 of 2018 due to suspensions and injuries and he's already on pace to do the same this season. Saying we should get rid of him completely was an overreaction after finding out he broke his thumb again however it is an issue that one of our highest paid forwards spends so much time on the sidelines. I don't think I'm alone in thinking that it's frustrating that we don't see enough of Tapine delivering on his talent for us because he's made of glass and gets suspended for idiotic plays.

Cameron Munster: Jack Wighton can be a star six for Canberra Raiders 'if he backs himself'
The day Canberra Raiders pivot Jack Wighton announces himself as a star five-eighth is just around the corner should he decide to take the game by the scruff of the neck.
"He’s got a really big boot on him, he’s got a really strong running game and he has got speed to burn," Munster said. "If he just backs himself a little bit more I feel, using his strengths, he will be a quality six in the next couple of weeks. He is someone we really focused on, he is playing some really good footy."

Jordan Rapana confident Canberra Raiders' Leipana have blown out the rust
"Leipana" got off to a rusty start, but Canberra Raiders winger Jordan Rapana is confident they'll be back firing in no time.
"We were a little bit rusty there, sprayed them a bit at the start," Rapana said. "He [Leilua] gave me a rubbish ball, a bit far behind me ... but as we go on we'll figure it out, we'll be sweet."

Then their usual dummy half runs were actually a liability as Melbourne were right into them scragging them (fairly pretty much) from market for a 1m gain every single time. That’s a basic Raiders play so Melbourne aren’t dumb enough to fall for it.
The 3rd factor was Bateman ended up playing their edge. He had a good game but watch his style and angles- always heads back in behind the ruck against the play so no way he can get BJ and Raps involved. That is the way he played in England too so don’t my expect that to change if he stays on that edge.

After today’s Mounties game I would bring in Hudson Young as a straight swap for Tapine.

100%. If we end up moving Bateman out wide to cover Tapine I'd like to see him on the left and Whitehead on the right.BadnMean wrote: ↑March 23, 2019, 9:53 pmThey weren’t as involved but the two times I remember them getting some service, they dropped it.The Rickman wrote: ↑March 23, 2019, 7:07 pm Was it just me or did the team in general not give Joey and Jordy enough ball for the whole game? When Tapine comes back I'd like Whitehead to stay on the right. I think Julz was also talking about that earlier.

He played prop yesterday, was pretty good. Mounties best backrower was Hudson Young, I thought.

Ok. I've only suggested Murchie because of his NRL experience (comparatively) and you know he can handle himself in the NRL defensively, which goes along with the 2019 emphasis on defence. I guess similar to accepting Pigmans rationale on Sezer over S. Williams.greeneyed wrote:He played prop yesterday, was pretty good. Mounties best backrower was Hudson Young, I thought.
