Things that lost us this game;
Slow linespeed
Storm ‘incredibly quick’ linespeed
Storm great ruck control (wrestle)
Poor ruck control (wrestle)
That’s it.
There’s way more to defence than having a good structure and good tacklers
Agreed
Their pack and hooker dominated the game
By the time we got back into it, they had a lead they we very comfortable defending
Agree 100%. Even though we lost, I like what I saw
Rewind to this time last season and I wasn’t feeling positive at all

5 day turn around shouldn't be underestimated plus travel. It's disappointing but they were blown off the park in the first 20. Plenty to work on with our halves and having Tapine MIA are all factors tonight.
I'm happy to give Sezer 4-5 weeks but after that if still hit and miss, Hingano and Williams should be considered depending on their form
He stutters at the line, I don't get it. It ruins his ability to put guys in gaps. You need as a half to make the defence think you might run it, right up until you pass it. His ability to put someone through a gap must be about 2/10
I said after last week that if CNK turned out to be the real deal then we were a serious contender this year. Based on tonight, I'm declaring us contenders.
Sezer the obvious weakness for mine, but even he is serviceable most of the time.
Tonight:
[1] We (or maybe i) struggled with Melbourne slowing the ball
[2] Our new spine struggled for cohesion (to be expected, especially given [1])
[3] We kept ourselves in the game even though they were great (and 5 day vs. 8 turnaround)
[4] CNK very good
[5] Hodgson overplayed his hand
[6] Croker was great, as he as last week
[7] Bateman also great, again
[8] Jack was 'ok' at 5/8. Our defence definitely better with him there and he will improve
All things being equal, that is as happy as I could be after a loss. A good run with injuries and we will be right in it.
I'm going to bet that Ricky gives him one more chance, but if he stuffs up, Sammy will be wearing the number 7. Sammy looks ripped and he's playing for a contract extention. If we get George, Sammy will be the back-up.
Some people talk about the weather. Others do something about it.
MEMBER NO.: 4500 (before they changed the numbering system).
We held our own tonight, considering a few costly mistakes and Sezer having a crap game early, we were still attacking and hitting hard at 70 minutes in, good effort against a good team for me, I can handle a loss like that early in the season
Boys looked tired tonight- obviously hungover from game in the wet. Storm very good in first half. We looked super clunky in attack- passing was staccato and we looked out of sync. I expected some teething issues. We had the opportunity to get into the contest, but we are not polished enough yet to get there. If we make the finals (we should) these things will sort themselves out. Not at all worried

I hope your right, I think Sammys best footy is ahead of him, he's a natural 7, but never been given ownership
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.
We were poor with ball in hand. CNK, Bateman, Papalii strong, score line wasn't a blow out, plenty of sting in our defence as times, tough to build pressure with such poor ball control.
Storm are a top 4 side so a good yard stick for us early in the season.
Feel like we are lacking some real punch in the middle, Papalii the only heavy we have that really bends the line.

I’m still satisfied. They kept me in there until the end of the game
Good effort, boys. Just need to work on a few small things

Is this serious or part of your Ricky meme? According to the radio, we were hardly in the game in the first half.
It's their Ricky meme.
They can't wait until round 8.

He was good last week but obviously poor tonight, manages to always look rushed and flustered. If he hasn't delivered regular quality in the next month I'm for giving Williams a good run at it.

Is this forum completely sarcastic and we should be worrying that the sky is falling? Am I just too relaxed cause I’ve hardly been on here in the last 6 months?
Rugby league was so much more enjoyable when they tackled each other to the ground. Now the game is won and lost by who can hold up the attacking player the longest, then when the ref calls held - throw him to the ground. It's boring to watch. Refs let it go for 50 minutes then started penalising for it.
Storm were much better tonight. Our attack was very one out and predictable. We didn't get any second phase play til midway through the second half. I can see plenty of improvement in the side so it's not that bad.

Can someone answer this question.. why was Wighton ever moved from centre? He isn’t the player he was early in his career.

He wasn't good at centre. It's a myth.
Agree. Had one great game at left centre but was dead average in his time at right centre. Could always put on a hit which seemed to perpetuate the myth.
Disagree, he was a weapon a centre. They only moved him back because he will filling in Croker’s spot while he was injured.
He was promising on the left. A higher ceiling than Croker. Never rated him on the right as he carried in his left arm and never threatened to set his man up.

I honestly don’t think being outclassed by the storm in round 2 is something to be hugely concerned by. They’re contenders and we’re trying to build to be at their level
We’re not there yet and which will or at least should shock no one

I still think Williams is our best half, I'd be happy to move Sezer on.
And you’re still wrong
Unless it’s the English Williams... then you are probably right and will likely get your wish in 2020
Hope this helps
After tonight's effort we should call on McCrone if you like.
You can call on whoever you like, you don’t win games of footy against the storm when their pack and Cam Smith dominate like that.
Hodgson was terrible, Wighton and Sezer stank... no questions about that, but they weren’t given much to work with, given the performance of the pack
Correct me if I'm wrong again, pretty sure the Storm scored a try after a kick out on the full...not the only one I might add. That's on the half to get his team back in the game.
