That was certainlymthe case at Reds games. People would literally not look up at the game.

I went to a Brumbies match once and after about 15 minutes someone commented "oh the Brumbies are running that way"

There's definitely a significant #CorporateWankery in relation to going to Union games.

That is a genuine disgrace.

My impression has always been that for some people, as soon as the Brumbies dropped the "ACT" from their name they ceased to be truly "our" team. Whereas the Raiders have a spark about them that only ever needs a little fanning from a string of good results to flare up into a blaze of glory. I mean, look at last year. We still averaged over 10,000 even though we were playing like garbage and the only dip was that Cowboys game which I mean, it was like -6 at kickoff, that's fair.

It wasn't even that cold last night.

I hope we more than double that crowd today. I always get a smug satisfaction out of seeing Raiders crowds obliterate Brumbies crowds. those snobby union pricks think they're too good for Canberra? Well Canberra will just love someone else.

Even Raiders finishing 6th and qualifying for a home final has the whole city engaged.

Brumbies had a home final last year and nobody remotely cared. From memory they didn't even crack 9000 to the game.

Dropping the ACT name definitely at started the decline.

There's no identity. Can't see I've noticed that much advertising or marketing either.

BTW I remember some home games in 2005 when we probably only had 5000 (vs Brisbane ib terrible weather)

That was Probably the core base back then that would attend no matter what. I'd say that core base has doubled since then while the Brumbies had probably halved.

I went to a game and went to the pub afterwards. Princess asked me if I saw Grogan's try. When I asked her who Grogan was she seemed genuinely confused.

We also had one in 2008 (I think?) against Penrith when it had been snowing early in the day and was sleeting by kick off. There was maybe 700 people there (I was one of those idiots) and they threw the stands open because they didn't want to be responsible for hypothermia. As I recall, we put 70+ points on that day. I felt really bad for the Penrith fans that had made the effort to come down having to sit through that.

Mostly I remember that at hte start of the game, Penrith ran onto the field, then they announced the Raiders, who...didn't appear. Tonguey held our guys in the tunnel for an extra couple of minutes while Penrith were getting drenched in the freezing rain.

Caught the last 3 minutes of Australia vs Argentina.

Wallabies down 23-19 in last minute Folau has an unmarked player a few metres out but goes himself and loses it forward.

So glorious

Someone was going on about the poor crowd on the Gold Coast. Didn’t even know the game was on. What idiots at the ARU play a union match like this against the NRL finals?

TO be fair no QLD team was ever going to make it to week two of the finals so it made sense to play it there.

Canberra would have gotten a bigger crowd though.

While we all talk about how poorly the NRL is run I think Union deserve a special shoutout for cutting the sunwolves who are in a market of over 120 million and based in a country that is going to host the World Cup in six months...

Sayonara to the Sunwolves? Australian teams fearing Super backlash: https://www.canberratimes.com.au/sport/ ... 515s5.html

The article doesn't even come close to touching on the real issues with rugby in Australia.

The junior pathways suck. They've restricted to mainly private schools and even then a lot of the best juniors switch to league. There is no decent pathway through the junior to senior levels.

No FTA coverage.

Rules. The game is pretty confusing and boring to the casual fan and even other fans that actually understand the game. They experimented with some different Rules (years ago now) to speed up the game, clear up the ruck and allow for more open play and the Northern hemisphere knocked it back. That decision by the Northern hemisphere has helped kill the game here.

They will be back to a 10 team comp (with only QLD, NSW +1) in another 5 years time. Unless they completely change the competition format.

Rugby union player Israel Folau unleashes more 'hell' on gay people in controversial social media posts

Israel Folou has again used Instagram to proclaim that gay people will go to hell, and appeared to criticise Tasmanian legislation making gender optional on birth certificates.

“The devil has blinded so many people in this world, REPENT and turn away from your evil ways. Turn to Jesus Christ who will set you free,” he wrote on Wednesday night.

A short time later on Instagram he listed “homosexuals” as one of eight groups of people for whom “Hell awaits”, following it a Bible extract and the commentary: “Those that are living in Sin will end up in hell unless you repent. Jesus Christ loves you and is giving you time to turn away from your son and come to him.”

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.
