Watching the ‘94 grand final highlights today Ray Warren at his best will be hard to beat.. but he hasn’t been near his best for a long time. He’s still better than Hadley today though.

CH9 need to get back to calling football and stop talking about everything else during the call and stop doing cross promos for other shows , which they clearly dont watch themselves .

I find the mute button better than Hadley. He's a much better radio caller where the video doesn't expose his cluelessness.

Match officials enterprise agreement

The NRL has today announced the confirmation of a new Enterprise Agreement with the Match Officials.

The NRL and the Professional Rugby League Match Officials have agreed to a four-year partnership.

NRL Head of Football Elite Competitions Graham Annesley made the announcement today, alongside PRLMO chair Silvio Del Vecchio, Senior Manager Officiating Bernard Sutton, as well as Senior Match Official Ashley Klein.

"It is fantastic to be able to lock in a four-year term for the agreement, adding long-term security to our agreement with the Match Officials," Mr Annesley said.

"NRL Match Officials operate in an incredibly challenging environment and we have some of the best, most talented officials in the country.

"The negotiations were always held in the right spirit and I'd like to acknowledge the role played by Silvio Del Vecchio during the process."

Mr Del Vecchio said the agreement represented a significant outcome following a 12-month process.

"This deal signals the start of a relationship of recognition and respect," Mr Del Vecchio said.

"Because if the Game doesn’t respect the match officials we can’t expect everyone else to. We are extremely satisfied with this outcome."

ARL Chairman Peter Beattie deletes Twitter account over Laurie Nichols gaffe

ARL Commission chairman Peter Beattie has deleted his Twitter account, apparently due to blowback over a "joke" gone horribly wrong. An account called 'Laurie Nichols is god' - a parody of the late, great, singlet-wearing, shadow-boxing Balmain Tigers fan Laurie Nichols - tweeted to Beattie.

The real Laurie Nichols died 19 years ago, but Beattie tweeted back, "Good to see you are well Laurie. Good win for Wests Tigers today. All the best."

I see the journalists on NRL 360 keep raising the idea of a "Bush Round". Some of these people have absolutely no idea. The number of games played at night... yet there are virtually no country grounds with acceptable lighting, and certainly not for the purposes of television. Is Fox wanting to pay for temporary lighting? They keep saying what great grounds there are in the country... I've been to Mudgee and Bathurst... and they're probably not much better than the standard of Seiffert Oval (Mudgee is certainly newer). The Raiders are taking a game to Wagga at a ground which is below the standard of a number of Canberra Raiders Cup grounds. Are these people crazy? Members displaced, sponsors displaced, inadequate media facilities and facilities for spectators. What is the obsession with taking games to small grounds, guaranteeing small crowds, in substandard facilities? So many people in rugby league have so little ambition for the code.

Sure, take trials to the bush. I'm surprised the NRL allows teams like Parramatta to stage trials at St Marys... but your premium product should not be downgraded.

There's clearly a lot of ill informed people out there, if that's true. I can also guarantee that there are certain clubs who would never even consider it... for the same reasons I've just mentioned.

I expect the NRL and some other pundits would also soon see what a silly idea it would be to vacate every city in Australia and New Zealand to other sports on one weekend. You would be guaranteeing that the NRL would have one of the lowest ever rounds for crowds in a very, very long time, if not ever. It'd be the height of lunacy. And I think the NRL will find the "Magic Round" isn't the best idea for the same reason, fairly quickly.

NRL sounds out clubs for potential Nines return

The NRL has approached the clubs to gauge an appetite for the potential return of the Nines next pre-season after what would be a three-year hiatus. While Western Sydney Stadium has been floated as a potential venue, there could be demand to stage it at the new Perth Stadium.

Make it on the rep round bye and give 4 competition points to first and 2 to the runner up.

Leeds get their second win of the year, in golden point, a 41 metre drop goal in golden point. Castleford had a chance to get the win in the final minute, but inexplicably ran it on the final two plays. Leeds still in relegation territory.

NRL to look at overhauling competition points for golden point wins

The NRL will consider overhauling the competition points system to allow teams who lose in golden point to walk away with something for their efforts. The NRL will discuss the option of allocating four points for a win, three points for a golden-point win and one point for a loss in extra time.

I dunno but it seems that the majority of fans just want Golden point scrapped for regular season games. So what does the NRL do?

Could argue that they didn't lose. Games are 80 minutes. If scores are tied then neither team lost. Extra time is then a fight for the distribution of points.

I hate golden point. 25 game season of an absolutely grueling 80 minute physical sport. If normal competition games are a draw they should 100% just stay that way.

Golden Point is just a bit of entertainment for casual fans imo.

Much like the wildcard finals idea I don't think tweaking gimmicky rule changes are as important as other issues NRL face.

Golden point is to get a winner therefore there is a loser , to get a result.

Don't have golden point but if you do therefore you want a winner and a loser. Don't reward the loser.

I don't mind it. I love golden point, you want a result. It's exciting. But I can see an argument that a golden point win shouldn't be worth as much as a good win in ordinary time. And I can see an argument why a team that forces a draw in ordinary time should walk away with something. Plus there's more incentive to get a win in ordinary time.

Rewarding the losing side points is plain ridiculous.

I find Golden point really exciting and quite like it. In a grandfinal it would be pretty gutting.

The new points system could work i recon.

Genuine question here. Why not just 2 for the winner and 1 for the other team? Not fair to give 2 points to a team who dont win outright i guess when another team gets the same for winning outright?

I don't have any problem with some points for being drawn at 80mins and full points for getting the win in extra time. One thing I would like to see is no 7 tackle sets for missed field goals or kicks inside the 20.

I think it’s too easily open to manipulation having games where more points are awarded than others.

Say two evenly matched teams agreeing to play for a draw in both their matches so that they got a guaranteed 3 points from two games rather than an expected 2.

You can’t have different amounts of competition points up for grabs in different games. It would be completely unfair to other teams. You would be giving more competition points (three) to teams who just happened to produce a draw in 80 minutes. It’d definitely be unfair to give one point to a losing team, but only two to a team that won well... and two to a team that couldn’t win in the 80 minutes, but do so in golden point.
