Rugby league fans know that a team’s spine is crucial in creating success. Glory in September is near impossible a strong unit of key playmakers. With that being said, it’s time to take a look at each club’s spine and rank them from best to worst ahead of the 2019 season.

Kicking things off in 16th place is the Canberra Raiders. Sorry to say it Green Machine fans, but it looks like it could be a long season ahead in the Nation’s Capital for Ricky Stuart’s men. Key player departures, positional changes and inexperience have left the Raiders with what looks to be a largely unsettled spine.

I don't know that I caught the exact terms of your fake optimism contract. Do we have to be 0 and 7 for the charade to be over? You're going to turn yourself in knots when we're 3 and 4 going into round 8.

Regardless, I feel like a great weight has been lifted through all this positivity. I was too critical in the past and had stopped giving Rick the benefit of the doubt.

Im looking forward to watching Rick send the boys around the paddock in Round 1 more than I did at any point during the last couple of seasons. Bring on 6:30pm 16.3.19!
16.3.19 eh !!

Can you let us all know the score ? It will save us watching it live on the 17th.
Haha, my fat fingers were just trembling with excitement thinking about the first step of the Ricky Redemption Tour (aka the 2019 season)... hit the wrong button :D

The 29 man squad has been confirmed with no surprises. They also changed the development player rule so they can play first grade after June 30. We only have 4, so hopefully we fill the other two spots by then.

The Raiders won't fill the last position until they absolutely have to, is my guess. That means Tom Starling will be Mounties contracted.

We absolutely should leave our last spot open- there are salary cap issues among clubs, there's usually a disgruntled player or two after a month of the season- could be a bargain get floating around there somewhere.

The most worrying thing while Rapana is injured is the wing depth imo. One injury has Simonsson, Abbey or Kris there (considering he’d never shift Croker) and I don’t like any of them as first back up. Simonsson May be ok eventually but gee that’d be a roll of the dice having him playing first grade at this point. I’d have been more confident in Satini being handed that role considering he’s a bit more rugby league hardened as it stands.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Unless it was a long term injury I'd say Bateman would probably move out to center before playing one of those 3.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

No depth, big shoes to fill: Where it could fall down for your team during the 2019 season

CANBERRA RAIDERS: Slim front-row stocks

The Raiders have parted ways with their starting props from last season Junior Paulo and Shannon Boyd, leaving the club light on in the engine room.

Running for the second-least metres of all clubs in the competition last year, the Green Machine may find field position even harder to come by this coming season. They’ve added well-rated young English prop Ryan Sutton to their books, but this may not quite fill the void.

Canberra Raiders small forwards could be exposed in 2019, says Anthony Griffin

Unfortunately, the Canberra Raiders look decidedly undermanned in the front row going into the 2019 season. The Raiders will be under pressure from the outset, desperate to avoid last year’s slow start that ultimately left them five wins outside the top eight.

No they don't.

Paul Kent does.

Gasnier does.

Most have barely any idea, let alone keep up with trials. Despite it being their job and writing articles on the subject and all.

Ricky Stuart’s secret plan to put an end to Raiders’ biggest flaw

Ricky Stuart has employed a new training technique in an effort to arrest Canberra’s biggest flaw. In a bid to shake the unflattering “Faders” tag this year, the team has been running scenario-based drills under extreme fatigue.

“Can I swear? ... it’s a **** of running and then it’s 13 (players) on 13, say we’re eight (points) up with 10 minutes to go and we have to see the game out,” English backrower Elliott Whitehead revealed.
