That's one of the biggest issues that it is hard to gauge when you are running behind a tired team.Look at Tedescos efforts when he was playing behind a out of sorts Tigers team he did nothing and looked average at best...

Tedesco singlehandedly kept the Tigers in most games. His output at the Tigers far exceeds anything he has done at the Roosters - as far as contributions to the team.

Have a look at some of the games when he and Big Sharon wanted out he shut shop because the conditions didn't suit him.

Even the Raiders ran over the top of him and his team. Its surprising how people are very quick to defend outsiders but slip the boot into their own so quickly.

I'm so confused

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

While not always the best judgement of a player it is probably the best we currently have. He always ranked fairly highly in Dally M points while at the Tigers.

In 2017 he was the highest ranked Tigers player in the vote. Him leaving the club is probably the only reason he didn't win the Tigers player of the year award.

In 2016 he was named the Dally M fullback in the team of the year.

In 2015 he was second highest Tigers player in the Dally M with a total of 18 points - equal with Austin, RTS etc., as well as taking out the Tigers player of the year award.

I'm with you gergreg. Tedesco singlehandedly dragged the Tigers along for a period there and he was definitely the only reason to watch them. You'd count his actual poor games on 1 hand.

From memory he was the only player who looked like he was actually trying. Game plans were simple against the Tigers. Shut him down and you shut down the whole team. Its little wonder he wanted out of there. This is despite the Tigers offering a very lucrative package. This was one occasion where a player legitimately did accept a lower offer from a rival club to leave.

Painful part is this all took place after he reneged on his Raiders contract.

Look, i love Rickhead as much as anyone. And his takes are SPICY! And i encourage him to do more of it. I love takes! Bold takes are good, they promote discussion and i've always been a fan of those with courage of their convictions with their opinions.

But yeah i dont know how anyone watches those tigers games and couldnt see that James Tedesco was the only reason they were ever competitive. Tedesco couldnt have done more for that team, he was literally the only good thing they had going for them. His talent and ability was clear and transcendent even in a bad team.

I remember suggesting on this site when we played the tigers that the only way we lose the games is if Teddy destroyed us and we should just kick it out or dead, and take out chances with limiting his impact. Tedesco was a **** superstar in a miserable football team.

'I was a drunken idiot': Canberra Raiders new five eighth Jack Wighton grateful for second chance

Jack Wighton has watched that CCTV footage a few times.

"And what are my thoughts? I was a drunken idiot," Wighton says. "I've watched it couple of times. It was mainly to recap that night. From the word go I couldn't remember. I had had one too many beverages. It was a wild night on the town. It wasn't good."

Jack Wighton vows to make 'no more blunders'

Jack Wighton has vowed to avoid the mistakes that could cost him his career after the ARL Commission's hardline stance on player behaviour fired a league-wide warning to "pull your head in".

"From what’s been going on, looking from the outside, there’s going to be some big changes in the game. It's a 'pull your head in big time' warning for everyone in the game," Wighton said.

Seeing Ponga play at five-eighth, it really rams home what a genuine step up from fullback it is in terms of distributing /organising, and a step down in running game

Relevant for Wighton. I don't think you can play there as a second fullback or additional centre anymore

One game. What job have you ever had where you were holding your own on day one?

I thought Ponga did ok. He was more involved than Johnson.

Ponga will also be affected by the extra defence in these early stages of the season.
Jack may too but he is a bigger body who should be able to handle it.

We play very differently from Newcastle. Neecastle have all their skill at 6 and 7. We are going to have everything start at 9 then go to 7. Very different structures

Well that ended well.

Great kicking, tackling and powerful running when he opted to. They tried to rush him a couple of times but he was able to do handy tap-ons.

Not many chances to really put plays on in the attacking zone, largely due to the weather. Will be interesting to see how he goes (and Sezer also) in close games where we're peppering the opposition tryline and looking to the halves to create something.

Couldn't hope for much better round one.

Jack was always going to do a good job.

The real question was his replacement at fullback. CNK did a really great job in his rookie gig in that position. Melbourne's kicking game will be the massive test for him though.

He certainly didn't do a good job in his last stint at 5/8. In fact, he was pretty awful. He also looked very rushed in the trial.

Having said that, I was keen for him to have another go at it, and I think he did well in the weekend. I think we'll appreciate his defensive skills all the more against the Storm.

I don't think it was good enough to let the ball bounce from those high kicks. Twice from memory. It's not a good habit to get into, but hopefully with the more experienced Rapana back this week it doesn't happen again.

Schools still out for me with Jack at 5/8, I've always considered sezer as one too, I do think he will develop into a player that has more time, agree that he looked rushed in the trial, but he did well in the titans game, i hope he can keep improving

I didn't watch the trial, so I can't comment on that, but from what I saw of Wighton the past couple of seasons at fullback I had very little doubt he could slot back into the 5/8 role, where his positional play in defending kicks isn't an issue. His kicking game needs work, but even put in a few beauties on Sunday. He's a real talent. I was never worried about him.

CNK is a different question. Like Horsburgh, I'm not going to question his handling in those conditions. He was willing and committed, and he made some really tough catches. I though he was good.

Something like 150mm of rain fell during that game. Catching bombs in those conditions is a. bloody hard and b. just as likely to give the opposition 6 again.

2 of our back 3 were essentially rookies and the third just turned 20. Tough gig for him to be judged fairly in those conditions. He did really well IMO.

1st one was an error , it was a lack of communication , Simonsson actually put himself under the ball but either one should have made it clearer who was going for it. 2nd one he was never getting to it on the full , the ball was short , it was correct to let that one bounce and swoop on the player as soon as he got it , which he did. I dont class that one as an error. CNK had a good game.

The TV did not show up how bad the conditions were. It absolutely poured. There was even lightning and thunder about.

Yeah I can't be too hard on him based on the conditions. What I did like him and this is something that sets him apart from Abbey - Abbeys positional play was quite good. CNK has the ability to see a hole and hit it. I think it's critical for any back that wants a successful career to be able to beat a 1-on-1 tackle, whether that be by explosive speed or power to break a tackle. Unfortunately Abbey doesn't have either to a high enough level. I think the timing for CNK to chime into the backline will develop.

Other than his first kick, the grubber that was way too deep and went dead, Wighton's kicking game was unreal

Kicks of note were the 60m dropout the opposition knocked on near the sideline, the 40/20 attempt that resulted in a repeat set and the touch finder towards the end of the game
