Re: Bailey Simonsson signs contract with Canberra Raiders
We still have one spot left, and we must have 29 by Round 1.

Re: Bailey Simonsson signs contract with Canberra Raiders
If he is killing it and a genuine chance at Round 1 it makes sense to upgrade him. Also as GE said we need to have 29 by Round 1 so it looks like no one else is coming.
Re: Bailey Simonsson signs contract with Canberra Raiders
You do it the week before season kicks off. Its lole going all in before you see your cards. Why not just have a look first?

Re: Bailey Simonsson signs contract with Canberra Raiders
I suspect not much is going to change between now and Round 1. Club will have seen enough to decide who on a train and trial deal merits a contract, and who will be dropping to Mounties. And I suspect the final spot will be reserved for an Edwards, hoping that he might end up switching mid season before the cut off.

Or injuries... not just to simonsson, we may need the squad position to cover elsewhere. Theres no need to do it a month out when hes already on our books for the year

Re: Bailey Simonsson signs contract with Canberra Raiders
It's actually march 1st for 29 players, two weeks before kick off. With the time it takes to get a deal registered this is pretty much as close as you could go.

This i didnt know. Makes more sense then

Re: Bailey Simonsson signs contract with Canberra Raiders
We need 29 players to start the yr. Without him we have 28.simo wrote: ↑February 13, 2019, 12:54 pmThanks matt lippy of sydenham. He has to play rd one otherwise it could still be 1 and 2 and hed be a dev player. The onlything the upgrade changes is that he can play now and we cant get anyone else. Why do that until we have to?Matt wrote: ↑February 13, 2019, 12:41 pmProves 2 things:simo wrote: ↑February 13, 2019, 12:37 pmMakes no sense unless he plays rd one. He’d have still been there to upgrade until we had to fill our roster, now we just have no flexibilityMatt wrote: ↑February 13, 2019, 12:29 pm As mentioned on the GH Live during the fan day signing session:
According to Canberra Times reporter David Polkinghorne, the Raiders are set to upgrade Bailey Simonsson’s contract to the 30 man squad after his summer training efforts.
This means he will be eligible to be selected from Round 1 onwards.
1. We arent getting an Edwards, Dufty, Johnston or Jennings prior to Rd 1
2. That he was in fact killing it at training.
EDIT.
I see someone else has said this now too.

Right now its about filling those last few spots on the roster with guys on low $ contracts. Still potential for clubs to do some player trading prior to season opener.

I think we should just give up on the Edwards thing GE. If he is disgrunted at Penrith and wants a fullback spot, you can bet Paul Green has a much larger carrot than Ricky pun intendedgreeneyed wrote: ↑February 13, 2019, 1:21 pm I suspect not much is going to change between now and Round 1. We continue to **** about with blokes that are part of some fraternity. It's infuriating.

It's already been reported in The Canberra Times that it wasn't.
