While I can see his appeal, I still haven't forgiven him for the Viking clap. Although, if he helps us get the most out of our squad all will be forgiven.
Given he told me the story of why he did it when he visited my work once I can understand why he did it.

What's the story?
He copped a far bit of abuse during the warm up, some personal and directed about his family. It affected him before the game and during half time he believed the same person went to the other side and gave it to him as he was walking up the tunnel.

Emotions spilled over after that I guess.

I don't think there is anyone who is above being taught things.

Remember they got Mal to teach Croker how to be a Captain :)
I Love Hodgo.

But if Ennis can improve his decision making - ie when to play his hand and when to offload to his halves, when to kick, when to pass etc, it will be a massive advantage. I think Ennis was one of the best at this part of his game - he may not have been the most skilful, but he was very 'footy smart'. We all know if we are honest that Hodgo overplayed his hand a bit -especially with the crash ball late in the tackle count.

The other part I can see him helping in is outlining how our forward pack plans its sets. It was like we reach a play the ball and then play what we see every time - Ennis could help out pack play to a plan - which corner to set it, which part of the field to attack etc. what to do early in the count as opposed to late in the count.

I cant see a negative in this signing.
All good points but it really makes me question what Brett White brings to the table.

No I certainly don't see any negative in it either from all reports he is a nice bloke,so he stuck it up us a bit who cares if you stick your neck out to give it to someone you have to be prepared to cop it back I say.

With the focus on defence, niggle and hold downs rarely penalised, are Ennis specialities. Whatever happened to the no DH policy? I guess Jacks last off season rendered that an exercise in futility. Ennis is a proven winner at NRL level though and it never hurts to have more recent winners on the coaching staff.

Coastalraider wrote: -Like Matty Johns, Ennis was never the most talented, which is why I thin he will make an excellent specialist coach. He had to be smarter than the others to reach the heights he did. Someone made a comment here recently that the natural talents like Ricky didn't make good teachers, as they never had to work quite as hard as the blokes with slightly less talent levels.
Yeah that was me, and like most here I think this is a really good signing. Ennis has a tactical mind no doubt, something that is sorely lacking in both the team and the coaching staff.

Ennis was a grubby player, but he is selectively so. He reads the game and the referee and knows when to push it and when not to. He niggles to the edge of the rules and not beyond, so that his opponent breaks them in retaliation. He is selective about when he breaks the rules. He is selective in trying to milk penalties, I don’t know how many times the Raiders have dropped the ball on our own 20 trying to milk a penalty after defending 5 sets in a row. There has been very little game awareness, and I hope Ennis is able to teach it.

In response to RR I don’t think Ennis voids the no DH policy. As others have noted he seems like a good guy off the field with no issues I recall. Being a niggly opponent on the field is a completely different kettle of fish to being an abuser off the field.

I agree, It Should be saved for big games, it’s pretty sad towards the end of the season when there is 8,000 people doing it while we play already out of the finals race.

Maybe, but how good would it be to have Ennis blow the horn to start the Clap before the Sharks game? I’d love to see Gallen’s face when he looked up at the big screen!!

I never hated him (I say now...)

He's clearly one of the most intelligent ex-footy players going around who want to stay involved, so getting him onboard is great - I wonder if Steve Walters is miffed or maybe he recognises that the game has moved on?

And he has ideas from 3 other clubs at least. Certainly not a a dh. I really like this. Now can we get Cooper Cronk on board as halves coach?

Halves coach? Mate put him in our squad for 1 year in 2020 and we might actually challenge for a premiership.
He did it on one arm in 2018.

The Viking Clap is the best "game day" experience in rugby league. It's the best thing that's happened for the Raiders' game day since "The bad and mean Green Machine" in 1987. I don't get the complaints - dare I say whinging and whining - about it.

My whinging and whining about Highway to Hell... well that was fully justified! And based on a scientific poll of Raiders fans on The Greenhouse Facebook page!

If you want to see embarrassing... go to an Eels, Bulldogs or Broncos home game. The things they have their fans doing is just lame.

The Eels had a flag raising ceremony... I can't remember which... but they tell the fans to stand and get ready ready or something like that.

Interestingly, the best entertainment I get around at any venue is our team not playing like a bunch of busted **** and missing the finals four of the last five seasons.

I agree as well. there may be a selection of hard core fans that disapprove of it, but there are significantly more fringe/bandwagon fans who this appeals to.
