Stat Attack: Your club's player turnover since 2016

NRL.com crunched the numbers to show the player turnover at all 16 clubs since the 2016 Telstra Premiership season. Of the 461 players that took the field in 2016, only 151 remain at the same club in 2019.That's a 67.2% changeover of personnel.

that's unreal, I knew there was a high player turnover across all clubs but I wouldn't have thought it was that high! I'm picturing what our side might look like in 2022 with only a third of the current players.

Soward's Power Rankings: Best halves combinations in 2019
Jamie Soward

The halves carry the hopes of every team's fortunes. They put all the kicks in, throw the final pass a lot of the time and come up with the clutch plays.

14. Aiden Sezer-Jack Wighton (Raiders)
Sezer has to be the man every game with Wighton adjusting to the new halves role. Wighton will run the ball and compete but it won't help if Sezer can't direct the team and close out games. Sam Williams will be champing at the bit at the first sign of trouble with this combination.

Read more: https://www.nrl.com/news/2019/02/04/jam ... s-in-2019/

I don't rate Soward's views as a pundit, but it is difficult to argue with that ranking. Only the Warriors and Eels ranked worse.

I’m amazed that Soward is even able to have a view on anything that isn’t related to himself

Look I don’t want to sound too optimistic, but the game last year that Williams got hurt and Sezer had to do everything was probably his best game!

Maybe this is what he needs?

And we don’t really need to score more points, just defend better and Wighton can tackle.

Positionally at FB he has been a liability!

Canberra Raiders head into 2019 with one of the youngest and least experienced squads in the competition

The Canberra Raiders head into 2019 with the second youngest team in the competition.

Canterbury will go into the new season fielding the most inexperienced side with a 52-game per player average, while their average age has plummeted to 22.8 following the exits of the several key players.

The average age of the Raiders squad is just over 23, and an average game experience per player of around 60 matches. Only the Bulldogs, Sea Eagles and Panthers have less game experience.

I think this could be easily deceptive. Players 20-30 in the squad hardly play at all and this maybe doesn't include superleague games either. Our starting side is pretty experienced.

Stat Attack: Rating each club's goal-kicking options

Which clubs have the best goal-kicking depth leading into the 2019 Telstra Premiership season?

1. Panthers

2. Canberra Raiders
Jarrod Croker: 656/808, 81.2%
Aidan Sezer: 179/218, 82.1%
Sam Williams: 25/30, 83.3%

The Raiders are blessed in the area of goal-kicking with an 82% strike rate as a club. Jarrod Croker will be the first-choice option for the Raiders with Sezer and Williams healthy back-up options. Croker is also chasing the record to become the youngest player under 30 to score 2000 points in the game and can do so with a big season in 2019.

Your NRL club's key player for the 2019 season

Canberra Raiders

Jack Wighton - With Blake Austin gone, the belief is that Ricky Stuart will move Wighton into the halves to partner Aidan Sezer. Whether this happens or he stays at fullback, Wighton is a key attacking weapon for the Raiders. He missed the back end of the 2018 season due to an off-field incident and he'll need to return to his best if the Raiders are to break into the finals. The Raiders have to do a better job of shutting out games when leading late into the second half and the halves need to take control in those situations.

Soward's Say: 2019 Canberra Raiders

Jamie Soward gives his thoughts on the 2019 Canberra Raiders. What are their strengths and weaknesses and where will they finish on the ladder.

Most at stake? Aidan Sezer, needs to have the season of his career if the Raiders are to succeed.
Player to watch? John Bateman, will be the signing of the year.
Biggest strength? Josh Hodgson, one of the classiest No. 9s in the competition.
Biggest weakness? Game management, closing out tight games.
Finish: 11th, if they win games early probably make the eight.

Canberra Raiders 2019 Season Preview

Ricky Stuart called a spade a spade when he sat down with NRL.com at the start of February amid predictions he is a lead candidate as the next coach on rugby league's chopping block.

"Why wouldn't I be? I haven't made the eight in the last two years."

Exactly Rickmando, and it’s not Sticky out there dropping the ball or missing the tackles or setting up the tactics or structure or giving the halftime speeches or working the interchange!

That’s all Sezer’s fault!

Whichever of those things Rick does, he will do it whilst bleeding green. Of that I’m absolutely certain.

When it comes down to being Raiders HC - the ability to bleed green more than anyone else is the most significant qualification for the job. Rick has shown us in his five years here that he’s bled more green than Bennett, Sheens, Meninga, Elliott, Henry and Furner combined - and that’s the biggest reason I’m backing him to deliver us success in the first 8 rounds this this year.

Regardless, I feel like a great weight has been lifted through all this positivity. I was too critical in the past and had stopped giving Rick the benefit of the doubt.

Im looking forward to watching Rick send the boys around the paddock in Round 1 more than I did at any point during the last couple of seasons. Bring on 6:30pm 16.3.19!

Why the Raiders have the worst spine in the NRL

Rugby league fans know that a team’s spine is crucial in creating success. Glory in September is near impossible a strong unit of key playmakers. With that being said, it’s time to take a look at each club’s spine and rank them from best to worst ahead of the 2019 season.

Kicking things off in 16th place is the Canberra Raiders. Sorry to say it Green Machine fans, but it looks like it could be a long season ahead in the Nation’s Capital for Ricky Stuart’s men. Key player departures, positional changes and inexperience have left the Raiders with what looks to be a largely unsettled spine.
