No rev-up required: Papalii is done with slow starts

No rev-up required: Canberra Raiders forward Josh Papalii is done with slow starts

No more Mr Casual Guy. Josh Papalii wants a crisp, brisk start to his 2019 Telstra Premiership season.

"It would be nice to get a good start to my season," Papalii said. "The last two to three years I seem to start slowly. It's not until I get a rocket up my **** that I start to realise I'm not playing as decent footy as I think I am.

"You never know with Sticky [coach Ricky Stuart] – I might end up on the wing."

No truer statement this off season

Very true. He always seems to have something no one saw coming. Sezer as hooker, Cotric starting winger, Allwood at centre....

I’ve always thought the ‘competition for spots’ thing is a bit of a joke.
Id much rather have a clear owner of a position like Hodges, than getting a couple of mediocre players and saying ‘best man wins’.

Papa should have been told on day 1 of preseason, ‘you are the leader of this pack. We pay you the most, you are the most talented, and we expect you to lead and be the best forward in the Park at all times.’

To be fair to the coach, I’m fairly certain he would have had this conversation with Papa during off season. They are just keeping things hush hush with the media. Of course the players know what’s going on.

"I didn't really go into that camp really focused, or really hungry to play footy," he told NRL.com this week.

Do I need to add anything?

Easy! Just place a Big Mac one metre from the try line.

Maybe this is the secret to ending our 70 minute fadeouts: Every try scored in the last ten minutes is a free Maccas Meal; Every try conceded equals one day of fasting.
Raiders Lime, what they really drink in the dressing room.

I do hope someone is going to make Canberra Stadium a fortress again. Points if they reference the Viking Trelleborg fortress: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viking_ring_fortress
