Dad at 15: Canberra Raiders new recruit John Bateman on the best decision he made
Canberra recruit John Bateman says it's the best thing that's ever happened to him. We are talking of a decision the 25-year-old made back when he was just 15, when he chose to be a father. His daughter Millie, who turns 10 this year, will be visiting her dad in Canberra in the not too distant future.
"We do have that great connection. It was so hard to say goodbye to her for a couple of months," Bateman said. "I'm really looking forward to her coming to see where I live and what Australia is like, see the kangaroos. It will be a great opportunity in life for her."

I wanted to play for the Raiders when I was 15 and have a kid when I was 25. Looks like I got it the wrong way round.

Sounds to me like he became a father at 15, then decided he needed to act like a father.

Becoming a father is not always convenient, but I think if you throw yourself into it and commit to your family and love your kids, being a dad is never a bad thing, even if it feels like it at the time

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.
