So my team GRM will now be known as Boost Mobile Racing.

As part of the deal, GRM drops Tander for Stanaway, as he’s a Boost sponsored driver.

Not entirely comfortable with this idea. Feels like a bit of a sell out

Completely out of the blue. Really good article by the V8 Sluth on the reasons behind it. To me it makes sense.

Shame for Tander he deserved a better send of but in saying that he has a good opportunity to pick up a great seat for the endurance races. Bit of talk about him with SVG. However I think he will end up back with Percat.

Also interested to see who WAU have landed as their sponsor.

as a GRM fan it was nice to have Garfy back and he did well but they have always been a team with potential race winners in the driver's seat and GT isn't there anymore.
Not convinced on Golding but Stanaway I reckon will flourish with GRM

RBHRT Just announced on FB that Garth will be partnering SVG in the enduros. Solid partnership, being similar heights would be handy as well

Kelly Racing confirms Caruso won’t be in the squad next year. It a shame, I liked Caruso.

Caruso says he was lined up to partner SVG in the enduros, before the Garth story broke. I can see him partnering Slade at BJR

**Edit** V8 Supercars site is linking Caruso up as Holdsworth’s Co-driver at Tickford

Holdsworth and Caruso would be a good physical / talent match but Caruso has a very particular set up and driving style that they may struggle to compromise on.

I'm stunned that Caruso is without a full time drive and Holdsworth got a run at the 3rd best team on the grid??

I think from memory they finished on the podium at Bathurst a few years back.

I disappointed also, I liked him as a driver, but yeah he doesn’t bring the cash. I hope he at least gets a TCR start or something

Bit over the cash for drives culture

You end up with goobers like Rullo and Kostecki getting drives where they have no merit

I was reading an interesting article on this. The focus was on F1, and the balancing act mid field teams need to do.

If they go down the pay driver road, they’ll have money for development, but risk not moving up the field, because they don’t have the talent.

If they go for a talented driver, they might get the surprise result, but ultimately they’ll lack the funds for development, and will ultimately fall behind.

I think it’s the way of the world these days, because the sponsors aren’t as thick as they used to be, and the sport is too expensive for your eccentric millionaire to buy a car and go racing.

The racing needs to become more affordable. I’ve been a fan of customer cars in F1 for years

I was hooked into the Bathurst 12 hour more than I thought I'd be, there were some magnificent cars out there. Even though there weren't too many safety cars, it throws out the strategies a lot when they're called so that can be a shame.

I agree it does not look exactly like the road car but I think it still looks great against the likes of the Nissan and the ZB. The others look like a pulsar and a Mazda 3 respectively. At least the Mustang looks like a race / muscle car and has some market relevance.

On another note, it looks like it’s going to be quick!

I spoke to a mate that still works for one of the Ford teams and he said the Mustang is they best aero platform he can remember (he’s been in racing for 30 years).

Every aero change they make (Splitter height, wing angle) the car responds and there is an actual effect. I remember the first track tests we did on the BA and FGs, you could swing the rear wing from max to min and not know the difference.

Good signs for Ford fans.

As a fan it’s hard to tell much from the results of practices and trials.

Reading the post trial reports
- 888 said they were setting the car up with Adelaide in mind, not to make the cars quick for Phillip Island
- Erebus held the quickest time for a long time before they had to be sent home early due to noise complaints (random!)
- Waters did put on greens for the quickest lap

Pretty much all drivers across all teams didn’t sound comfortable with how their car was feeling

Sounds like the change to single springs is causing teething issues for a lot of teams, so it’ll be interesting to see how well some teams adjust to it compared to others

You would have to think the majority of teams at that level would run through a very similar program.

From Dutton’s interview the change to the single spring has stumped them as they were running “a very very non linear spring” however took confidence that some other ZB’s were at the pointy end meaning it’s not impossible once they get their head around it.

Sounds like a great rule change from Supercars to bring the top few teams back to the field.

EDIT. I am actually wondering now if their change to the Tripple spring at the rear of the car as rumoured coincided with their dramatically better starts last year. They had a test weekend and from there on in they were unbeatable off the line with a massive advantage. Time might tell.

F1 testing well under way now. Ferrari putting the foot down and trying to intimidate rivals early. Mercedes not interested and just sandbagging inthe middle of the pack. McLaren and Haas looking a bit more competitive. Gasly breaking his new Red Bull, while bits are breaking off Ricciardo's new Renault.

Its all fun to watch but times and figures don't mean much till lights out in Melbourne in a few weeks time.

Like you said fun to watch but not really indicative.

Interestingly, I was listening to Gary Andersons day 1 review, and he was almost disappointed that from viewing on track every car looked well refined already. The only real variance was responsiveness due to fuel load, or corner speed due to better funded teams having higher levels of overall downforce - but it doesn't look like anyone has really got it wrong this year with the new regs.

Times will start to be a bit more relevant mid week 2.
