I think he is past that. Carney was dumb and yes put people's lives at risk driving and dumb pranks BUT he was never violent or nasty/mean that i remember.
People like lodge, barba, hayne, bird etc are in a whole different boat to carney and fergo imo

Greenburg saying Barba will be rubbed out of the game.
Sacked North Queensland Cowboys star Ben Barba 'will not return' to NRL if guilty of domestic assault
Ben Barba will be rubbed out of the NRL and "will not return" under Todd Greenberg's watch if CCTV footage proves allegations he physically assaulted his partner at a Townsville casino on Australia Day.
"I haven't seen the footage as yet, but if it shows violence towards a woman then really there is no debate. Ben Barba will be out of the NRL immediately and I can't see him ever returning. If the evidence is there, he won't return under my watch," Greenberg said.
It's really easy to rub out a player when he doesnt have a contract or interest from clubs, will wait and see what Greenberg does in relation to Bolton, Debalin etc before I am convinced Greenberg has grown a pair

Cat, Bolton touched a woman on the leg. No aggression. No physical pain. Just plain old annoying and unwanted. Can't hang a man for that. (Caveat - I'm not defending him.)
Barba?
Drug user.
Twice hitting on his woman and attracting police.
He is a horrible human.
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Well strictly speaking he CLAIMED to have just touched a woman on her 'upper thigh', and there was no conclusive CCTV vision otherwise, but the evidence presented was that it was a little more....well, Trumpish than that.
Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.
I'm glad Greenberg has acted in the Barba case. If the evidence on CCTV is as reported then he should never play in the NRL again. Some will say it is inconsistent with other cases, but I think that getting people who act this way out of the game has to start somewhere.

But the court concluded it wasn't, didn't it? And that's what we have to go with.

I believe that the court found him guilty of indecent assault. I believe that's all that was concluded.

No, they didn't. See above.
I brewer your pardon, yes ... Common Assault. As with my original comment, the allegations could not be conclusively proven.

The charges were not proven... so not guilty... innocent of the charges in our legal system. It is a court of law that decides these things... Innocent until proven guilty is the presumption in our system.
As I said ... the allegations could not be conclusively proven

I've heard courts say " I find the defendent not guilty", and Ive heard them say " I find that the charges have not been proven ", and they come up with " I find that the prosecution had failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt" from time to time ... but Ive never heard them find someone innocent.

Better a thousand guilty men go free than a single innocent man be convicted!

Barba has been given a life ban by the NRL. With Super League going to back the NRL ban and Australian Union also saying they won't pick him up there aren't too many options for him.
After the NRL Integrity Unit was able to view the CCTV footage of Ben Barba's alleged incident involving his partner on Australia Day, CEO Todd Greenberg has reaffirmed he cannot see the sacked Cowboys fullback ever being allowed to play in the competition again.
