It’s a bit of a worry when an Australian side goes into a test series with only 6.5 players locked in. Given Siddle was picked as the only other bowler you can lock Starc in but realistically there was a case to rest / drop him.

Scary how many batting positions are still open even when you add is Warner and Smith there are still 2 spots available with no one having any ownership over them.

What’s the flexibility for Harris? What happens if either Burns or Renshaw also comes in and kills it? Warner to 5?

I think the bowling attack is set. Question mark against Starc is only due to some indifferent current form. Thats him though. Always a bit hot and cold. Fact is there's nobody better to take his spot so he's secure.

Batting line up a diffrent story. Harris done enough to lock in his spot. Khawaja is our top performing test player. Everything else is up for grabs and nobody really bashing the door down for inclusion. We're in pretty bad shape there.

Renshaw average in Shield and Test cricket is mid 30's. His Shield average this current season is 20. He has not been selected on form. His County Cricket form did not come with him to Oz. He would be a better 12th man than butter fingers Siddle. That's where I think Renshaw should be based on this season's form.

And for once, the 'horses for course' and 'experience' lines of thought actually work.

FWIW, IMO, this is enough of a reason to pick him. They are acutally planning for the future, and giving it a period of time to work. They are also banking on a young player who has proved his ability and Test mentality to do it. Just hope Renshaw isnt an Ashton Agar - regressing to the mean.

The above is the reason.
However, it is at odds to the Burns selection, and therefore the Wade non selection.

At least while James Pattinson is still getting himself back onto the field. I agree. Come the next summer, I hope he is back to his best too. Coz then we will have 4 genuine Test quality quicks.

I dont mind this 6, BUT, Id move Burns to 6 and shuffle the other 2 up. Id rather have some experienced campaigners either side of the rookie, as well as having the skipper behind him.

Pattinson is up there with the best of them when healthy. Might take a while for him to show selectors he's up to the rigors of test cricket before they consider him again. A strong finish to the Shield season might see him taken on the Ashes tour.

Uzi? R u nutz?
So he can't play spin right, yet he averaged 26 in the last series with no Ashwin.

His test career is uninspiring to say the least, he is definitely not our 3rd best batsman.

The poms are going to have a field day with him, rubbish player.

Nice to beat India.

Thats why Stoinis needs to be on the Test side.

Thats also why Handscomb should be there or there abouts too.

Nice to see Uzi make some runs too.

Although Handscomb did well in this ODI, I am yet to be convinced he is a Test batsman. With the field up around him he is unconvincing imo and was dropped from the Test team because of it. Once the field is spread he plays with more freedom and his unusual technique doesn't hinder him. But under fielding pressure his complicated technique is found out. Anyway, good luck to him on todays performance and he will probably go to England on the strength of it.

Nah more so because our batting did not collapse and our bowlers had a spring in their step. Adding to that India should have given up after 4 overs but just kept coming!

I’m planning on going to the test in Canberra.
Do any local Canberrans know where is the best bay to sit and how parking is?
I’m driving there and back in a day for Day 1.
Even if the Bays are in the non alcoholic section I don’t mind as I won’t be drinking.
TIA

Parking is poor near the ground. There is some near the Old Powerhouse, now the Glassworks if you don’t mind a walk. There’s street parking... and some parking stations at Manuka and Kingston but they’re probably pricey. Are there Day 1 tickets left? Last time I looked it was getting quite full on the first couple of days.

Also, be aware the best grandstands are side on to the pitch. If you want to look down the pitch, the small grandstand at the Manuka/Church end near the new media centre is for you. The other end is uncovered as I recall.
