I dont mind that side, and could totally live with it. Thouhg, despite my opinion on him, no way SMarsh loses his spot though, so replace Fergie with him.

TBH, swap Cummins for Holland and Fergie for SMarsh, thats probably how I would have gone for this current Test.

Lets look at the options:

Openers:
Finch: "Right handed Warner". Experienced cricketer. Talented in his own right. Q is, does he deserve to be in the Test equation? 1st class avg of 36 says NO. However, at least in this Test he has taken his opportunity with a good knock.

Uzi: I still think he is our #3, but opening is his second best spot. Has to be in the team.

Renshaw: Still not totally sure how he lost his spot to Bancroft, but with him suspended, Id have him straight back in. His form in England county cricket was ridiculas. He wont solve our batting woes, but its a start.

Burns: I've never been totally convinced. Has shown signs, but kinda looks an Australian pitches only guy to me. However, with a 1st class avg of 40, he is at least consistent enough to be well in the equation (Avg of 36 in Tests).

SMarsh: I think he is a better middle order guy, but can open. I dont like him, never have. Seems like he wasted his talent to me (there were lots of injuries too), but has been far more consistent in his latter career.

Marcus Harris: 1st class Avg of 33. Not good enough.

D'Arcy Short: Wildcard! However, his rise to prominence is not that dissimilar to Warner's. His philosophy is 'see ball, hit ball' just like Warner, BUT, with the same attention to detail and training, why couldn't he convert to the longer format? 1st class Avg of 23 is bloody awful, BUT, 41 in short forms.

Daniel Hughes: 1st class Avg of 38. Has looked pretty good for NSW, but at 29, going on 30, I suspect he wont go further.

Middles:
Uzi and SMarsh as above.

Maxy: Consistency has always been his knock. However, he has been pretty consistent in all forms in the last 12 months or so. Not sure how he got dropped, esp for the likes of Labuschagne. 1st class Avg of 41 is the best option on this list.

Handscomb: Seems a bit like the forgotten man. However, I dont remember reading too many good scores from him since being dropped. However... should he take up keeping full time, I think his stocks would rise significantly, as keeper batsmen are very light on the ground in Australia.

Labuschagne: Ummm... yeah... Show me more. More, more, more! Avgs a tick under 35 in 1st class. Not good enough.

Head: I like Head as a player. Experienced, and shows great potential. A better short for guy though. However... his 1st class avg isnt much better at 37.

Ferguson: Like Head, I really liked him. I harp on it a lot, but getting injured after getting into the ODI side all those years ago meant his meteoric rise was left more like plummeting off a cliff. 1st class avg 39, ODI 41. At least an Avg of 40 is about right.

Nic Maddinson: 1st class Avg of 35. Very talented, can hit a ball, but super inconsistent. Not good enough.

Ashton Turner: 1st class Avg of 37. No better or worse than other options on here. Has got some experience around the group though.

Hilton Cartwright: 1st class Avg 37. I like the look of him as a player, but not consistent enough.

Jake Lehmann: Pedigree +++. 1st class Avg 38.5. Already a high score of 205 in 37 matches. 16 games of 50+. Will be on the radar again with a good season I think.

Jake Weatherald: 1st class Avg of 35, BUT, List A is 46. At 23, you'd have to be keeping an eye on him, esp after his Big Bash final 140 odd.

Kurtis Patterson: 1st class Avg of 40. A player who no one is talking about. However, he has that 40 avg you want at State level. He is also only 25 yrs old. So, Id have thought there must be something worth looking at here.

Cam White: At a time of zero experience, this 35 yr old is still Avging 40 in 1st class, and this yr its over 50. He can bat anywhere from 3-6 too. His age is keeping him out, and has done for a few years. At least he knows his game, is a great captain and good slipper (something we don't have ATM).

Keepers: (Keeper batsmen stocks is poor)
Tim Paine: He should have got the gig a million years ago, but to me he doesn't look up to scratch. Cant believe he is the captain either. I'm still scratching my head. HOWEVER... the reading below isn't good.

Alex Carey: 1st class Avg of 27 is awful! Avg of 40 in T20 though. Must improve this, BUT, appears to be the next best keeper in Australia ATM.

Jake Doran: 1st class Avg of 31. This yr he avgs 44.5. Only 21, so keep an eye on him. Has played a couple of PM XIs games.

Peter Nevill: Cant make a run in Test cricket. Great glove work. BUT...

Jimmy Peirson: 1st class Avg of 30.

Matty Wade: He has been there before, and been passed on due to poor glove work and batting avg. Avging 43.5 this yr.

Allrounders:
Really, its Mitch Marsh vs Marcus Stoinis. I cant think of another option worth his salt ATM. Agar is a bowling allrounder, and maybe with our crappy batting, he should get the 2nd spinner role over Holland, BUT, Hollands numbers back home are too good not to give him a run.

Spinner:
GOAT
daylight...
moonlight...
Holland
Sweepson, Zampa, Boyce, etc aren't yet good enough to even get a look in.

Quicks:
Starc
Big Wood
Cummins
Pattinson (if he is ever going to be fit again)
Daylight...
Moonlight...
I can see promise in the likes of Sayers, Doggart, Tremain, Stanlake

Amongst all the negatives (and there are lots) it is great to see UK scoring some runs in Asia. I though he was very hard done by last year I think it was when he was coming off great form and was not selected to play over in Asia.

It will be difficult but I hope he can kick on in this innings.

Sensational from Khawaja, Paine and Lyon.

Nathan Lyon was stone cold in the situation and didn’t give an inch. He probably should have batted 8 in the situation when you look back on it.

He is "Mr Night Watchman". I agree.

Pure class from Uzi. A senior player knock with the chips down. He ankored the innings, but Finch, Head and Paine all got around him and did their bit too. That was a Test quality batting performance.

Good fightback from the pakis, australia will need to bat well and not sure still about the resilience of the batting despite Khawaja's heroics. Proof will be in the pudding.

Labuschagne - gotta say, even if the pitch has helped him here, his leggies have been impressive.

Credit to Lyon. For someone who had to work for the longest time to get the faith of the selectors, and playing in an era where Australia has been on the decline compared to the great era of late 90s-early-mid 00's , to be 4th on the all time wicket taking list is an outstanding achievement.

Agreed. I also have very little faith in our batting lineup. However, moving Mitch down and Head up, makes sense to me.

I havent been impressed with Holland TBH. Right now, Labu is putting his hand up to be our 2nd spinner. In which case Id almost be tempted to bring in Agar, who can bat more than just a bit as the extra spinner. He will be no worse than what Holland is dishing up, but might be good for a few more handy late order runs.

Lyon has been super impressive in his career. TBH, I think the fact that he had to fight for his place for so very long actually benefited him. He had to work so hard during that period, and its paying off big time now. To be 4th all time is amazing, esp for a spinner who cant bowl in Asia :P
