Clubs who are not willing to extend the contract of their ex premiership winning captain usually know something we don’t. These players rarely offer much to their new club. Remember when Roosters signed Fatty Vautin or even older players clubs didn’t want more recently like Watmough at Parra or Orford at some club I can’t remember the name of.

Sutton would be good injury cover off the bench if interchanges drop to 6.

Looks like Pangai Jr is staying in Brisbane, as he was always going to. Seems the stories we just didn't have the cash were true.

Broncos stars Tevita Pangai Jnr and Matt Lodge reject multi-million offers from the Knights to remain in Brisbane

Newcastle Knights have failed in a daring multi-million dollar bid to prise star Broncos forwards Tevita Pangai Jnr and Matt Lodge out of Brisbane. Pangai Jnr was also involved in negotiations with the Sydney Roosters and Canberra while Parramatta held discussions with Lodge.

“The Broncos are one of the biggest and most successful clubs in the NRL and they don’t lose too many players they want to keep do they,” Nathan Brown said. “We had a decent crack at them but couldn’t quite get either over the line.

Interesting. TPJ denied he’d turned down a multi million dollar offer from the Knights on Instagram live in the middle of last night. Story confirms he was negotiating with the Raiders. Guess we might still hope he hasn’t finished negotiations with other clubs (?).

I reckon he just has to deny it as he would be under an exusive deal with his current manager. He switches manager November 1 and will announce then.

But until then I guess we can hope.

Sutton is **** and he has been for years. He was a truly horrific 5/8, but a passable backrower.

But remember Sutton would want good money and the Raiders don’t have it.
Pity Jacks signed with Titans, a Jacks, Sezer could have been intriguing.....

I don’t know why anyone is talking about signing players now, since we now have no money left for 2019.

I have a suspicion that we'll sign some players but the way the salary cap works there is no incentive to get them now and have their entire cap on your books. You'd rather pick them up 1 week prior to the commencement of the new season and in doing so avoid carrying 1/4 other their salary against your cap. IMO a players salary should be carried by the club who employed them during the period that they can actually play football, but clearly such common sense thinking is beyond our commissions capacity...

Being a Raiders fan can be so disheartening.

With some luck with injuries, I still think we’ll be a lot better in 2019.

Knights and Raiders seem to be the two teams Player Managers are using this offseason to leak stories in the press for their own benefit.

Usually these stories are just to pressure the actual club the player is looking to sign with.

Im glad. Im more than happy to be used by player managers to force other clubs to pay more than they want to as often as possible.

Surely the best thing to do by his family would be to take huge cash. The Broncos are going to have to let someone go at some point.

The Broncos rarely let a player go that they want to keep. They mysteriously manage to find the money and/or TPA.

I think that's a bit of a myth, they have lost a lot of decent players. Especially younger ones in that second tier.

They can't keep them all, as much as they try. I'm sure this discussion has been had before but I can't think of many they have lost where they have actually wanted to keep.

I’m not 100% sure what his status for 2019 is, but young prop Lachlan Timm should seriously be looked at. The Storm announced that he won’t be a part of the squad next year. He’d cost sweet all and he’s got some real mongrel about him. We’re missing some power in the middle and this is a young kid who I genuinely believe can develop into a top level NRL player.

He’s played in the Qcup with the Sunshine Coast for the last two seasons, above his weight and size and up against men. He’s held his own and featured for the Queensland Residents side. There’s very little downside in trying to recruit him, considering he wouldn’t command big dollars and would be looking for an opportunity.

If we have no money to spend on big names (I’d love TJP, but it’s unlikely he will leave the Bronx) then we should be looking at Queensland Cup/NSW cup level who can push onto the NRL.

Not every player is going to come through like a prodigous talent and be ready for the rigours of NRL. But at the moment, there are a heap of Reserve grade players who could contribute a lot to our systems. Some of these players are only just hitting their prime and have developed into NRL ready talents.

Someone like Josh Cleeland whose looking for an opportunity. These blokes have nothing to lose and will be hungrier than your average NRL talent because they are yet to taste first grade. Cleeland has won two state championships and put on a commanding display in this seasons game. Throw Sezer on the left and Cleeland on the right and that could be a genuinely strong combination.

I heard an ad today that Triple M Sydney were going to discuss TPJ’s options and the Sydney clubs chasing him tonight. Will try to listen but the minister for war and finance in my house probably won’t have it

Just read his profile under 20's player of the year in 2016 with an outstanding work ethic. Seems a great prospect these are the type of young players we should be looking at.
