Former Canberra Raiders back Jonathon Reuben hopeful change of scenery kickstarts NRL career

Canberra Raiders junior Jonathon Reuben is determined to ensure his third attempt at cracking the NRL is a charm as he looks to become the latest player to find another level at Melbourne. Reuben, who turned 25 yesterday, joined the Blackhawks in 2015 after failing to get an NRL chance in an 18-month stint with the Sydney Roosters. The winger has joined Storm affiliate Sunshine Coast and will trial with Melbourne over the pre season.

“I’ve got a trial with Melbourne in the pre season, and hopefully if things go well I’ll get something.

Can former Canberra Raiders half Josh McCrone lead the Toronto Wolfpack to Super League in the Million Pound Game?

A HOST of former NRL stars, including captain Josh McCrone, are preparing for the Million Pound Game and the chance to guide the fledgling Toronto Wolfpack to the English Super League. The Wolfpack is aiming to become the fourth and final team promoted to the England-based Super League from the second-tier Championship when they host fifth-placed London Broncos at Lamport Stadium in Toronto on Sunday (Monday AEDT).

“This whole experience is totally different to anything I’ve had before,” former Canberra Raiders playmaker McCrone said.

Former Canberra Raiders forward David Westley takes charge of PNG Orchids

Raising his hand to take charge of the PNG Women’s National rugby league team known as the PNG Orchids is certainly a great challenge for David Westley.

“It’s been a great experience coming into the PNG Kumuls (men’s national team) coaching staff two years ago and with Michael Marum as coach I am really grateful for the opportunity given to me.

“Women’s rugby league in Australia is really growing and for us, the challenge is actually at the grassroots level starting that junior system for both genders going up and no doubt our women who have great talents and are quick learners can certainly be at the top of the world,” he said.

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

Leeds deny David Furner won't take up Rhinos head coaching role

Leeds Rhinos chief executive Gary Hetherington says there is “no question” that newly-appointed head coach Dave Furner will take up the role despite reports saying he is about to make a dramatic U-turn.

Hetherington said: “I know it’s been widely reported that he’s got a get-out clause. Well, no, there isn’t one. It’s all pure speculation. David is committed to coming here. There is no question about that.”

Huddersfield Giants sign former Canberra Raiders junior Matt Frawley

Huddersfield have signed Australian half-back Matt Frawley on a two-year contract from Canterbury Bulldogs as they prepare to part company with veteran Danny Brough.

The 23-year-old Frawley has made 31 NRL appearances for the Bulldogs but played under Giants coach Simon Woolford at Canberra Raiders and looks set to be a straight replacement for the 35-year-old Brough.

"I've known Matt for a while now," said Woolford. "He came up through the junior grades with Canberra as a half or hooker and he's really developed nicely at the Bulldogs.

Todd Carney shelves bid to return to NRL, signs with Byron Bay

THE top grade career of one of the most colourful and controversial players in rugby league history has come to an end. Former Dally M Medallist Todd Carney has shelved his plan to return to the NRL in 2019 and signed a deal to captain-coach Byron Bay on the NSW north coast.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for me to put something back into the game and I’m looking forward to it,” the 32-year-old Carney said.

Canberra Raiders junior Zac Woolford has joined the Newcastle Knights on a one year deal

His dad was on the coaching staff until mid-way through last season but that has had no influence on the Knights’ decision to sign Zac Woolford, the son of former Canberra Raiders captain Simon Woolford.

“He’s done a good apprenticeship at the Raiders and the Bulldogs and is unlucky not to have debuted already,” Knights recruitment official Troy Pezet said.

Former Canberra Raiders winger Sandor Earl re-signs with Melbourne Storm for next two seasons

Sandor Earl has agreed to remain with the Melbourne Storm for the next two seasons. The former Roosters, Raiders and Panthers winger's comeback to the NRL last season was delayed by a knee reconstruction and he was unable to break into the Telstra Premiership squad late in the season after returning midway through the year in the Intrust Super Cup.

One of rugby league’s toughest players of modern times, former Canberra Raiders forward Quentin Pongia, is fighting a brave battle against cancer.

Brent Todd sets up a base in Bali

Former Canberra Raiders prop forward Brent Todd, 53, has also made the switch after setting up a tattoo studio in central Kuta called Get Inked at Bali Ink. Todd, who operates two studios - one in Kuta and another which opened in Seminyak late last year - also boasts a more sordid past of prior convictions and arrests.

Leaving his life as a television commentator for league games behind, Todd now lives between Bali and Australia describing his Bali lifestyle as 'living the dream'.

Maitland Pickers sign former Canberra Raiders centre Matt Allwood

The Maitland Pickers have bolstered their attack signing former Canberra Raiders centre Matt Allwood. The Pickers beat several rival Newcastle Rugby League clubs to Allwood’s signature, officially sealing the deal at the Pickers home Club Maitland City on Saturday. Allford had been set to play with the Newcastle Knights last season but was injured in the trial match against Parramatta Eels at Maitland Sportsground.

Allwood, who is good mates with retired Pickers forward and under-19 coach Dane Tilse, joins prized recruits Tyrone Amey and Sam Anderson at Maitland in 2019.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.
