12 mins to go TRY MOUNTIES to Hudson Young, off an O'Hagan pass. It is his second for the day. Niko converts.

Lost some direction today but valiant in defeat. How many of those stay on next year in the 20’s?

Another 5 mins we would have won that. But the 5 mins before half time and the 10 after just killed us.

Paul Roache isn't a half, IMO. Not enough organisation and too many wrong options.

Possibly. Seemed like they went away from what got them there in the first place. a lot of overplaying and trying to hard. Good learning. Congrats to all the players and staff on the year. Hopefully they are competitive next season

Was Westcott injured? To lead the way to a win in the last match against the minor premiers on their home ground to not being picked is a huge call without an injury or some off field misadventure. Or the unthinkable - Sticky had a voice in the selection of the side. O'Hagan plays at 5/8 in the higher grade so why wouldn't he be 5/8 here with the skills of Westcott at 7??

You'd think so... but I suspect you'll find Roache is up the pecking order with the Raiders. And I'm not sure why, given the performances I've seen from him.

I cant wait to see him lead them around next year. He just seems very mature and from what i have heard hes a great kid as well. I think he works at HQ also as i have seen him at a few promo days. Hopefully raiders lock up a heap of these young spine players early next year on the rookie deals to put a bit of size and daily polish on them. Otherwise they will be snapped up elsewhere.

MATCH REPORT: Canberra Raiders affiliate Mounties suffer narrow loss to Cronulla Sharks in Preliminary Final

The Cronulla Sharks have booked their place in the Jersey Flegg Cup Grand Final with a gutsy 26-22 victory over a fast-finishing Mounties outfit at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday afternoon.

Cronulla looked comfortable with a 26-10 early in the second-half, but the Mounties persistence was rewarded with two tries, one of which coming in the closing stages, to set up an exciting but the Mounties unable to break through the stonewall Sharks defence.

CRONULLA 26 (I Lumelume H Smith L Polselli B Trindall J Ferris tries B Trindall 3 goals) def MOUNTIES 22 (H Young 2 B O'Hagan H Smith-Shields tries A Niko 3 goals).

Mounties season review

The Mounties quickly established themselves as one of the premiership heavyweights in the first half of the 2018 season but somehow managed to slip significantly as the finals series drew near.

By the end of Round 19, they joined the Penrith Panthers on top of the competition ladder – comfortably sitting in second place with the Newtown Jets trailing just behind although having played an extra game.

11 wins and six losses had them firming as one of the favourites to be there in the final game of the season, but an unexpected turn of events saw them remain winless until the end of the regular season with five consecutive losses seeing them fall out of the top-four.
