Williams defense was as good as it's ever been this year. Still not great though

I can’t believe there are even thoughts in people’s heads about shifting Wighton. Him at 1 was by so, so, so far our best thing this year.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Re: Best fit for Bateman
Bateman and Sutton are playing Warrington now if anyone's awake.
Re: Best fit for Bateman
Because his strengths are his running game and passing game. His one on one defence which he rarely uses at FB.
Weaknesses; Defensive positioning for kicks. Errors under high ball.

Re: Best fit for Bateman
Didn't see the game but Bateman had 2 try assists, 4 offloads and 150 metres without a linebreak. Great numbers.
Sutton only made 60 metres but had a try and 48 tackles.
They won.

Re: Best fit for Bateman
I'm looking forward to JBateman arriving, acclimatising and knuckling down to what will be arguably the toughest preseason ever..
From all reports he goes alright. He will definately struggle early with the summer training.

Re: Best fit for Bateman
The Bateman signing is a bigger one than Whitehead and Hodgson (in relation to their status at the time of signing).
This is exciting

Good numbers for Bateman. Did he play lock?
Where was Sutton?

Re: Best fit for Bateman
I've watched 1st half, Bateman right side backrower, real terrier good footwork and mobility.
Sutton, bench prop looks a bit unfit but good footy smarts covered inside well. nothing the toughest preseason ever couldn't fix.

Shaun Wane, the Wigan coach, always has his props big. Any spare timber Sutton is carrying is likely to be through instruction.bonehead wrote: ↑September 15, 2018, 10:27 pmI've watched 1st half, Bateman right side backrower, real terrier good footwork and mobility.

Bateman's on the three man shortlist for the Steve Prescott Man of Steel - along with Ben Barba and James Roby.
He stands a great chance of winning - especially as its voted for by the players.
Barba was sensational for the first half of the season, but dreadful for the second. Roby is the same as he's been for as long as I can remember - one of the very best players in the world - but he's done nothing different this year.

Re: Best fit for Bateman
I've got a good feeling about this Bateman... The sort of player we need
Re: Best fit for Bateman
Yeah, if anyone is going to change the team in a meaningful way it's this bloke.
Re: Best fit for Bateman
I was worried about his lack of size but after seeing the impact of mobile forwards like Radley, Murray and even a guy like Aubusson makes me think this will be a great signing.
We are making a concerted effort to move away from a big pack and I actually hold high hopes for next year as I think our defence will improve considerably.

Was Boyd a Stick or Furner move? I feel like I remember back when Stick coaches NSW before jumping to Parra, he was being “Revolutionary” by selecting a smaller, more agile forward pack.Damoni wrote:I was worried about his lack of size but after seeing the impact of mobile forwards like Radley, Murray and even a guy like Aubusson makes me think this will be a great signing.

Maybe he’s rehashing this idea?

Re: Best fit for Bateman
We're going to be a different team with mobile forwards, rather than huge players in the middle.
I anticipate improvements defensively in particular.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Haha. Watch the NRL turn around and speed up the **** ruck so big forward packs just roll straight through us. Knowing this Mickey mouse comp we'll probably start the season well and the NRL will make the change mid season.

Shoving it in your face since 2017
Re: Best fit for Bateman
I think if they speed it up enough its more of an advantage to have a smaller pack. It was at it's all time fastest when the Tigers won and they had a really small pack. It's been slow ever since.gergreg wrote: ↑September 28, 2018, 11:34 am Haha. Watch the NRL turn around and speed up the **** ruck so big forward packs just roll straight through us. Seems your thoughts on Barba are confirmed by the following article with Bateman a good chance of taking it home: https://www.canberratimes.com.au/sport/ ... 506jp.htmlMrPosh wrote: ↑September 28, 2018, 3:19 am Bateman's on the three man shortlist for the Steve Prescott Man of Steel - along with Ben Barba and James Roby.

Re: Best fit for Bateman
Looks like Sutton started at lock last game and came up with 46 tackles. Good workrate for a big bloke.
Re: Best fit for Bateman
Stuart definitely encouraged Boyd and made a project of him when he was about to head home to the country so he was part of Sticky's vision. Along with bringing in Paulo, I think Ricky wanted some big boppers. We went pretty hard for Tamou too didn't we, although he's a bit more mobile.Fuifui Bradbrad wrote: ↑September 28, 2018, 8:41 amWas Boyd a Stick or Furner move?
