Definitely Papa for mine.
When was the last time a player was dropped to reserve grade and then went on to win player of the year in the same season?
Full credit to Josh for turning his season around so impressively.
Some good performances also from Wighton and Tapine this year but injury and suspensions obviously go against them.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Sia in the top 5 again for the same reason.

I went Whitehead, can see the player giving him points for all of the work he does every week.

Whitehead was great this year, less flashy but did a lot of work.

Papalii for mine.

And I'd go Guler for Rookie of the Year. Liam Knight made more games (9-3) and I believe he's eligible for rookie as he only played one NRL game for the Sea Eagles in 2016 prior to this year. Both have put in huge efforts for Mounties, but Guler looked more at home in firsts for mine. Murchie is an absolute first class prospect, but hasn't had as much impact in firsts, he tends to get a bit lost in games at times.

This guy has been super consistent since he turned up. Does plenty of work all 80.

I'd be happy for Whitey to win the MM Medal..

Good call GD.

Voting is pretty cliquey I think. That's the only way I can see that Jnr won it last year with a pretty average season.

Players currently arriving at the AIS Arena for tonight's Meninga Medal presentation. Emre Guler making a big splash in a white coat tux.... Josh Hodgson in the conservative black suit and tie... Aidan Sezer going with the country gentleman farmer look... that plaid coat! All the wives and girlfriends making an impression on the green carpet.

Will Emre Guler take the rookie of the year award? Or will it be Liam Knight?

Joe Tapine is now in the house... and must be one of the players expected to poll well. The thing that will cost him is that he made only 16 appearances, due to a combination of injury and suspension. But when on the field, he was consistently strong.

The crowd is seated, countdown on and the night is underway...

Elliott Whitehead lost his beard this week... and he must be in contention for the Meninga Medal tonight as well. He finished third in the Fans' Choice count this year, behind winner Josh Papalii and runner up Joe Tapine. He played every single game of the year, and was very consistent. The thing that might cost him is that he was shifted around positions a bit to cover injury.

Jack Murchie turned 21 this year. Every game he played was open age. How does he win the junior rep player of the year??

Maybe that commonwealth nines thing? Fair point though.

Maybe they mixed he and Gulers awards up?

Was that Commonwealth nines thing age restricted??

I am sure we didn’t have anyone in the Under 18 Rep clash. Horsburgh, Hala, Guler and O’Hagan played Under 20s origin. The Under 16s weren’t played before Origin - but I think it was played as a curtain raiser to a NRL game. Not sure if we had anyone in it.
