Huawei banned from 5G network

Will probably spell the end of the sponsorship, as it was going to depend on 5G

Will they definitely dump the sponsorship? They will still be selling phones.

Not a good time to be losing a major sponsor.

Raiders will once again do a Jarryd Hayne and pull out a good season in a contract renewal year.

In many ways I would argue that Huawei being banned actually helps the sponsorship. The nervousness of governments to Huawei has encouraged them to try to become more mainstream by sponsoring a football team. That is especially the case where they chose to sponsor the Canberra team ahead of all the others. It seems their second choice was the Brumbies so they certainly wanted a presence in this town.

It was the other way around. They approached the Brumbies first, but ended up with the Raiders. Considering the visibility Union gets in this country, they came out ahead.

Huawei 5G ban won't affect Canberra Raiders sponsorship

Professional sporting sponsorships won't be affected by the federal government's decision to ban Huawei from rolling out Australia's 5G network. The Canberra Raiders have an agreement with the Chinese-owned telecommunications giant to end 2019 and Huawei has confirmed they will go ahead as planned.

"It doesn't affect the current signing we have," Mr Mitchell said. "By the end of the season next year we will be the longest-serving corporate sponsor the Canberra Raiders have ever had. We'll see [that] through and make a decision about re-signing next year.

I love how the government has no issue with the Chinese buying mass amounts of our land, Darwin port, gas pipelines and god knows what else but draw the line at 5G

Buying land brings in foreign cash. The Darwin Port acquisition saw the infrastructure get an update. The Navy has a base in Darwin as well as Army and RAAF bases. The Government can easily block departures and make arrests even some distance out to sea should that be an issue for the government. Ditto for coming vessels that do the Russia-in-Crimea thing and have military-looking personnel who are apparently not part of the PLA. If things get that bad, you can be sure no one on the Hill will be giving a rodent's rear end about the bleatings of the Chinese Government and its over the top pet media. Not now that China's better-known sympathisers are gone.

Quick jump to 5G -- because of interconnectivity now and in the future. If a foreign power wanted to cripple our infrastructure they could do so via 5G. Not just communications, other stuff as well. Ultimately, Chinese companies have to do the bidding of their communist government.

He’s right. If the Chinese government request information from Huawei they HAVE to supply it.

If the US government wants information from Cisco, they have to supply it.
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

Yes but what's the likelihood that this is actually going on? Not to say it's impossible, but really...?

Well, the US and Australian Governments think it's a potential threat and the other Five Eyes (intelligence sharing group of nations) members are uncomfortable too. Besides, tin foil is so '80s; thin lead sheeting is the go. :P

Huawei could extend Canberra Raiders sponsorship despite 5G ban

Telecommunications giant Huawei will consider extending their major sponsorship of the Canberra Raiders despite being banned from the 5G network rollout. Huawei's contract with the Raiders expires at the end of the 2019 season and their then eight-year partnership would make them the Green Machine's longest ever major sponsor.

"We've got to assess exactly how the 5G situation is going to affect our long-term business, but 5G's a fair few years away really," Mitchell said. "We're the major contributor of 4G networks in Australia with Vodafone, Optus and TPG, and we'll continue to roll that out over the next few years.

BJ Mole reporting that Woodgers, in conjunction with Canberra Milk and Video EZY will trump Huawai and release 6G wifi technology before the Raiders win another Grand Final.

McFadden Homes are going their own way on 7G technology, deal likely to fall through after being briefly demonstrated in Widness UK.

Won’t be surprised if G5 isn’t around when the Raiders win their next premiership. Or G10 TBH.
