Re: Preparing for 2019
Hey Timbo, Jordan Turner had played over 100fg games for St Helens before arriving in Canberra.
Hes older than Sutton but otherwise same circumstances.

Re: Preparing for 2019
Fair enough, I haven't seen any of Ryan Sutton tbh.
There is a chance he either starts on the bench instead of Bateman/Guler or he starts with Lui dropping to the bench. I'm just not sure where England B side players rank amongst NRL players..
Also Luke Bateman has already played 70 games at NRL level..

Re: Preparing for 2019
Turner was also a bloke who played centre in his youth but was transitioning to the pack as he lost pace. He was a jack of all trades when we needed specialists.
Sutton is in his prime. And we've lost three props.

Re: Preparing for 2019
Turner was well past it when he arrived. Dumb decision on both sides
Re: Preparing for 2019
I understand Turner basically called up and said he would play for peanuts. I think he wasn't even on a first tier deal.

If you’re banned from playing, you can still train yeah?
I mean, this whole time Jacks been off, he’s still alright to train with the squad?
Just a random thought that popped in my head just then

To be fair to Hingano, he hasn't been given the chance to play in his actual position for us yet. He certainly isn't a 9.
Re: Preparing for 2019
He played 6 for Mounties and was awful, granted his confidence was probably shot by that point

We could do with a half, but I'd prefer, given what's available a rookie half to bolster our depth over someone who would be expensive and not necessarily a good fit for the club like Norman.

Re: Preparing for 2019
After watching the Storm last night I have to agree with those that have mentioned Drinkwater. Very, very good prospect. The Storm will likely keep Munster going forward meaning Croft, Drinkwater and Hughes will be battling for two spots. If I'm the Storm I keep Drinkwater and maybe Croft just over Hughes (based on the balance and player types in the rest of the spine). Hughes could potentially be a target too.

Re: Preparing for 2019
Yeah, quite possibly mate. No idea how Bellamy rates each prospect but I do feel one of them will become available in the next 12 months. Even if the player is rated 3rd of that trio they are still highly promising.-GD- wrote: ↑September 1, 2018, 2:02 pmI’d say Hughes will be their fullbackWiki Special wrote:After watching the Storm last night I have to agree with those that have mentioned Drinkwater. Re: Preparing for 2019
I’ve warmed a lot to Croft. Happy to have him come into the squad my only concern is he would be moving from a team based on structure to us who have no structure.Wiki Special wrote:Yeah, quite possibly mate. We are a half back, 5/8 and 2 front rowers short. Papa won’t be playing prop

Re: Preparing for 2019
Sorry BP but its going to take a fair old form turnaround to convince me that Hingano is a our future at no7. I know he was playing out of position in 1st grade but he's hardly set the world on fire at the Mounties. Williams is still a far superior option despite being little more than a backup level half. Unless we pick up somebody in the off season it will be Williams/Sezer combo in 2019.
Also think you can forget about Cortric to fullback and Wighton to centre option. Cotric didn't do enough in his stints there to justify (in Sticky's mind at least) shifting Wighton when he returns.

Re: Preparing for 2019
Hingano not up to firsts consistently, not at present anyway. I think we might have to wait to see how O’Hagan, maybe Westcott, turn out. Bottom line is we’re short a top line half for 2019.
Re: Preparing for 2019
Debating the merits of Sam Williams Vs Hingano sounds a lot like some hooker debates we've had over the years...

Remember when we made the finals with a spine of Buttriss, McCrone, Campo and Milne?
...at least Campo was genuine class before his knees gave out.

Re: Preparing for 2019
From memory Milne was in pretty good form that year as well.
Buttriss was a mystery. Could pull out the occasional corker game and then sink back into mediocrity very quickly.

Storm have litterly 3-4 backup halves which are better option than our 2.Wiki Special wrote: ↑September 1, 2018, 10:46 am After watching the Storm last night I have to agree with those that have mentioned Drinkwater. Our talent scouting is very poor.

Preparation for 2019 is going ok. We are well into MAD Monday and no damaging reports on player misbehaviour. Only 6 months til the trials.
