Re: Wayne Bennett
Final word...interesting what will happen next year if we r in the same position.
That chart showing how disastrous we've been going over the last 15 Yrs is bad, pathetic.
Someone will have to put some "stick about" Who will own up and sack Ricky?
Who's going to eat "humble pie"?
Maybe Ricky will give himself a chance to redeem himself by sacking his assistants.

Re: Wayne Bennett
It was in his contract that if Brisbane came into the comp, he would be released to coach them if he got the job.
He did, so the Raiders had to let him go. Remember, he was a rookie assistant coach to Don Furner who hadn't proven himself at NSWRL level when he was signed.
Some people talk about the weather. Others do something about it.

With Griffin given the punt there is now talk of Bennnett taking the gig at Panthers.
Wayne Bennett working under Phil Gould? Please, please please make this happen.

We should have a crack. 2 years of Bennett could fix a lot of problems, even if he is a bit over the hill.

We'd probably get more free to air games?
Re: Wayne Bennett
Did anyone see Gus interviewed and asked about Bennett to Penrith? He almost laughed. The ONLY positive to Broncos knocking Penrith out of the finals would be the payback to that chuckle.
We continue to **** about with blokes that are part of some fraternity. It's infuriating.

Re: Wayne Bennett
I'm not seeing many good arguments as to why it's not worth a try.
Stuart had been unsuccessful to say the least, bringing the raiders to 1 finals series in 5 years.
He's worth a try because even a washed up Bennett is bound to be more successful than Stuart.

Even I'd say yes to Bennett at this point.
It'd end in tears no doubt, but at least it would be interesting for a season.

Re: Wayne Bennett
If given a choice of current options I would definitely say no to Bennett. If bringing in Bennett was the means to remove Sticky then I would say yes.

Re: Wayne Bennett
Kinda hard to understand why Bennett seems to be so concerned about possibly being sacked by the Broncos when he could easily walk into the head coaching job at most NRL clubs. Maybe not the supercoach he used to be but an upgrade on probably half the coaches in the NRL.

I dont really like Bennett these days and think the game has for the most part passed him by, if think if we are going to replace Stuart we can do better than 2019 Wayne Bennett, i also think that it wont matter who comes here, whilst ever the club is run the way it is right now, we'll never been a juggernaut and our best hope to win is producing some transcendent all time immortal level player who drags us kicking and screaming to a premiership...
but all that being said , there is no question in 2019 Bennett would be a significant upgrade on Stuart as a HC.
Re: Wayne Bennett
He learnt first hand, from his time at the Knights, the significant advantage the Broncos have over nearly every other side in the comp.woppadingo wrote: ↑August 14, 2018, 1:09 pm Kinda hard to understand why Bennett seems to be so concerned about possibly being sacked by the Broncos when he could easily walk into the head coaching job at most NRL clubs. We're the Knights ugly step sister so he'd have the same problems/results here.

I'd rather keep Sticky for 2019 and source a better coach for 2020 than sign Wayne Bennett up for 2019 and/or beyond

Absolutely Sid.
What’s the point of trading a rotten turnip for a slightly less rotten turnip?
Particularly when you are probably going to be eating the slightly less rotten turnip for the next 5 years. Over which time the slightly less rotten turnip is likely to end up in the running for the most foul turnip you’ve ever eaten.
Just grit your teeth and eat the rotten turnip for a year and then buy a fresh turnip next year. Assuming there’s no freshies about this season.

Re: Wayne Bennett
How could anyone be against the idea of Bennett coming here?
Anyone that thinks he left the Knights in a rabble is slightly mentally loose - the TInkler effect was worse than the Bennett effect.
I can't see Ricky stepping aside - I can't see Bennett coming to Canberra - but we could do worse.

Re: Wayne Bennett
My bet is he will go to Penrith.
Gould is smart. He also has no problem blatantly lying to the press to throw them off.
Penrith are absolutely perfect for Bennett to come in and win a comp. I’d back him in too.
I think our team only needs a few minor additions for Bennett to win a comp at too. But that would take management being proactive, decisive and with a strong Will to Win. I don’t think they have that.

Didn't Penrith categorically rule him out today? Not that that is an indication. They've lied their way through the entire saga.
