Wayne Bennett
As I’ve said numerous times the club won’t move on our current coach so the best I could hope for is for Wayne Bennett come here in a Gus Gould type role.
But I don’t think Stuart’s ego would allow it either.

That would be awful. That’s just doubling down on wrong.

Hahahahaha, ah, but the Knights had a ****...team
He hasn’t done bad with the Broncs
and look what he did with Saints,
the Raiders I reckon r on par with the team Saints had.
Frustrating...last 10 yrs, we r still struggling.
I keep paying up for my 3 G’stand tickets
and after another lose, I’ve got the 3 hr drive back home to Sydney.

5 or so years ago hell yes. He's past it now.
Re: Wayne Bennett
One advantage of Wayne Bennett might be getting Tevita Pangai Jnr back.
Really hurts losing juniors like this.
I still am gobsmacked about how we gave him no opportunity and let him go. Hopefully, we don't repeat the error with some of the young forwards coming through.

Re: Wayne Bennett
Sorry no. He completely screwed the Knights. They made the finals the year before he took over. While he was there they made the top 8 once in 3 years. After he left they won 3 consecutive spoons. He was there for the money and nothing else, which showed in the state he left the club. I don’t want him coming here and doing the same.green eyebrow wrote: ↑July 25, 2018, 7:55 pm Hahahahaha, ah, but the Knights had a ****...team

Our club needs to move forward. We cannot do this by bringing in a relic of the past.

Re: Wayne Bennett
In all my history posting on here I've always said the same thing about Wayne Bennett. People point to his record as to why he is such a great coach. I've always said look at the sides he has coached and a large part of that he had virtually an entire state to pick from, he has massively underachieved during his career if you consider the advantages he has had.
Not to mention his attitude is an absolute blight on the game. Absolutely no way would I want him near the Raiders.

We continue to **** about with blokes that are part of some fraternity. It's infuriating.

Re: Wayne Bennett
Indeed
That's not hindsight, a few of us were talking about it at the time.
But Bennett isnt bring TPJ back with him. Bennett isn't a draw anymore.
Re: Wayne Bennett
Could work. Wighton to 6, Cotric fullback and big Wayne on the wing. He might have lost a bit of his pace but he can whisper in Croker's ear and help us get some respect from the refs.
Love his enthusiasm too. Get him to blow the horn every week, that will get the viking clap going.

Re: Wayne Bennett
Interesting theory. Reckon we should sack Stuart and make him our halfback?
Maybe sign Daley too?
Those are two of the best 10 players of all time. **** let’s get Mal to play centre again whilst we’re at it.
We can sack Jacky Boi get Badge back.
Reckon that’d solve our problems

Not sure I’m following you Pigman.
If you’re saying he’s washed up then I’d be happy with a coach that makes Grand finals and prelims while he is washed up.
In 20+ years he’s missed the finals twice.

If Bennett was our coach in 2017 and 2018, we make the finals and are a contender.

Re: Wayne Bennett
When the guy says Matt Lodge is his mentor I don't want him anywhere near our club.
Not to mention even Bennett has had to tell this brat to pull his head in on the field. We have enough brain-snap liabilities on the field without adding another one to the books.

He needs to be given some lee way for being young and stupid.
He's already backtracked a bit on his "commit to Tonga" comments.
I'd have him starting at prop alongside papa in a heart beat.

Re: Wayne Bennett
I’m very much saying he’s washed up
His teams are somewhat successful these days due to talent level his club is able to accumulate. He’s out coached virtually every week of the competition these days
The game has passed him by.
He would be an utter disaster here. As he was in Newcastle. It took them 4 years to rebuild that place to just be competitive

Broncos making finals while Bennett not coach = 67%
Re: Wayne Bennett
You are ignoring a lot of things to focus on the only lack of success he’s had in 30 years of coaching.Pigman wrote: ↑July 25, 2018, 9:34 pmI’m very much saying he’s washed up

Let’s not forget he went back to the Broncos who were in and out of finals while he was away, and immediately took them to a grand final.... just 3 years ago
Re: Wayne Bennett
It wasn’t a lack of success
It was a disaster on par with any we’ve seen in recent times
A catastrophic failure. One so bad it almost sent that club to the grave.
The broncos under his latest stint still have a roster that is incredible and the results have been very underwhelming.
His tactics are outdated. His bench use is ordinary. Like I said, he’s routinely out coached these days
No disrespect, he’s had an amazing career and I don’t agree with those who say he has always been this way. Fact is in his day he was a extraordinary coach... this ain’t his day.
Father Time is undefeated.

We are talking about Wayne Bennett now. Not Wayne Bennett of 10 years ago. So with a focus on now, what are peoples thought on the current direction of the Broncos?

Maybe seeing their teammate become a paraplegic impacted the squad somewhat..?
He signed an ageing team to get immediate results, he made a prelim, but really, the team lacked class to be a real contender.
But let’s not forget he was brought to the club by Australia’s (former) richest bogan, and told to win a comp straight away.
The club were nowhere near being in a position to win a comp when he got there.
The strategy should have been more like what Gould has done with Panthers juniors in Newcastle region. But the club was owned by a short sighted millionaire bogan.
Last week he pulled the trigger on a lineup change that might see results. There’s holes in their current roster, most notably at halfback.
Success this year will come from those fantastic young forwards that he is guiding into first grade.
We disagree.
The only answer will be found in this years final series, and I would suggest, at his next club whoever that may be.
Re: Wayne Bennett
He won’t get another club
Least not an NRL club IMO
The jury has returned a verdict on him, the fact that the broncos are publicaly attempting to replace him speaks volumes
They know what’s up.
